Moon woke up with a jerk and a deep breath of air. Many worried faces were surrounding her looking down at her. She felt a cold rag on her forehead and she clenched her fists. Her eyes widened as she realized she was in human form. She sat up real quick and her eyes flared with anger. She could always control the transformation from happening, meaning that they had given her the injection that promotes the change to happen…and stay that way.
She growled and scooted away from all of those around her. “You bastards! What the hell do you think you’re doing?” She snapped with such fury they backed up a little bit, some with guilty faces while others had fear in their eyes.
“We’re sorry. We didn’t know what was wrong with you…Sam ordered us to give it to you. He wanted to see if there was anything on you that the fur would cover. We did it for your own health.” The wolves glanced at one another before turning to Sam who was coming up to her.
“What happened?” he asked while she gave him a nasty glare.
“None of your business…I forgot to eat. So sue me, you shouldn’t be wasting your sweet precious time on the likes of me. Now how long before the promoter wears off? I’d like to go running but I can’t do that if I’m stuck in this hellhole can I?” her voice was filled with anger and sarcasm but she still kept her glare on the others.
“Oh aren’t you all puppies and rainbows…nice to have you back.” Sam looked down at her and grinned at her little temper tantrum. He always seemed to think of it as amusing and almost never took offense to her numerous outbursts.
Moon growled and plowed her way through the crowd once she stood up and stormed outside to the lake. She plopped down on her butt and crossed her arms as she looked up at the moon. Her thoughts drifted to Cole as she stared at the moon thinking of how similar the yellowish glow was to his scorching eyes.
His eyes are better…they glowed with hot passion and was a darker shade that made them look like molten lava. Moon felt heat coursing through her veins at the thought of him. She couldn’t believe herself…getting the hots for just thinking about a man’s eyes.
She flushed at how stupid she was being and her glance carried to the water. She stared at the reflections in the water and she saw one reflection out of the corner of her eye that she couldn’t ignore.
She quickly shot her eyes over to the side of the lake where the reflection’s owner should have been. There was no one there…strange. She could have sworn she saw Cole’s reflection in the lake. But no one was there…great going Moon, now you’re hallucinating imaginary men you are dying to touch but can only see in your mind…kudos!.
She sighed and laid back against the cold dirt underneath her. She shut her eyes as she looked to the stars and let the night air consume her body with peace. She started thinking about how free her body felt now…there wasn’t any violation, rough hands and heavy bodies of bigger men possessing her like some kind of trophy.
She shivered at the thought of the men who used her. How they violated her every night for weeks and ignored her screams of pain. How could they have been so mean to just a little girl? She tried to push the memories away but they always came back to her. She ached for so many weeks after she had been saved…and that made everything unforgettable, all of the pain she endured was too much for a young mind to forget.
Feeling tears coming to her eyes she turned over to her side and huddled up in a fetal position to feel some comfort. She placed her arms around her knees and began to weep. She wished that her past would just go away instead of biting her on the ass all the time. She cried and cried until all her energy was drained and she passed out from exhaustion.

Cole clenched his fist as he tried as hard as he could to keep himself from trying to comfort her. Her tears seared into his mind and it made him ache from her being in such agony. Keeping his scent masked, he peeked around from the tree he was hiding behind to glance over at her. She was asleep now and so vulnerable to anything that approached. Since she was exhausted she wouldn’t wake easy to sound and smells like she would have normally.
What was it about her that made him feel so protective and possessive of her? Every time he thought of her or even heard her voice, his blood would be set on fire and he would have an aching need deep inside him that wanted to be quenched.
Closing his eyes, he scanned the area to check for enemies that may want to take a bite of his little, gorgeous, precious one. He would stick around as long as she was in this state and won’t allow anyone to get near her. He damn well knew that her pack leader wouldn’t allow any enemies around this area anyways but you could never be too sure.
Once he ensured himself that everything was safe, he continued to stare at her…who seemed so peaceful asleep like an innocent child. But she wasn’t a child, she was a woman. A full-blooded, moody, beautiful woman at that, he couldn’t help but see her as a lost child with the way she was curled up.
He smiled as he realized she was laughing and playing in a field of flowers in her dream realm. Gods how he wished he could be with her right now. But someone has to keep her physical form safe. He couldn’t let anyone hurt her…he wouldn’t allow it.
He could see her running and twirling in circles, enjoying the fields like a small child. It was like she was living a childhood she never had. It was quite sad but strangely cute how she wanted to live what she never had.
If he could move her without her noticing…no. she was too smart for that. She would easily know when someone was grabbing her, asleep or not. He made his way closer to her so he could get a better look at her. Gods she was beautiful, her features pale and soft, she could pass for an angel. Cole knelt down into a squat to lightly move her hair out of her face.
He instantly grew hungry at the contact and he couldn’t believe how much softer she was in person. Her skin was so warm and velvety soft….her hair was so luscious he could devour her scent for as long as he lived. He gave a warm smile as he stared at her, how he wished that he could just whisk her away into an unknown world where only they could reside.
He lightly touched her cheek and she didn’t even flinch at his touch. Most people automatically flinched when he touched them. More commonly women than men, they thought him to be the devil. He may not be the most powerful wolf among the rest…but his powers were known to be lethal. They were more intimidated by the looks that came with the reputation of such amazing power.
Being a Dream Seeker came with a lot of unknown powers that most learned to never underestimate. At any given time, the powers could reach their full extent without warning…like all great power, each had a trigger. And people were smart enough to not try to find it…unless they wanted a death sentence.
He being a Dream Seeker was the only way he ever got any respect out of anyone. Since his specific ability was so rare, that gave him more praise. He knew deep down that his pack didn’t care about him…hell would freeze over before they ever would. They only cared about having his powers on their side. They only kept him safe so they could keep their advantage.
He hated it. But it was what it was, either slime balls or nothing…just the streets and him. He preferred to stay with a pack to get food, although he hated the smell of his fellow pack members, he could put up with it to survive.
But as he stared at Moonshine, the one woman who could turn his blood to molten fire in a matter of seconds just by looking at him, all he could think about was breaking free from the blood lusting mongrels he resided with. He could actually think about a future…but it could never happen. It was impossible as much as he hated to admit it.
He stood up as he heard something rustling in the bushes ahead. His eyes narrowed as the slits in his eyes adjusted to those of an angry wolf. He could feel the hair on the back of his neck stand up as he got goose bumps all over his body. He began baring his teeth when the intruder stepped out into view.
He relaxed as he saw just a lone deer searching around for food and water. A deer, a lousy friggin’ deer. Oh he needed some chill pills, how couldn’t he notice it was just a yummy…fat…healthy looking deer. His mouth watered as he watched the deer cautiously approach the water, eyeing them both as it lowered its head.
Here comes dinner. He focused his attention to the deer’s gaze and it stopped lapping its water for a moment. It stared at him for a second with its mouth hanging open as if under a trance. Cole’s eyes flinched a little bit that was barely noticeable and the deer fell over like it got shot with a tranquilizer.
The deer’s even breathing assured it was asleep and Cole came to stand over it. He grinned as he pulled out his knife to finish the job. He couldn’t let Moon go without anything to eat all night.
Once he was done getting what good meat he could off of the deer he disposed of the body so she wouldn’t have to wake up to a dead deer next to her. He grinned as he finished wrapping up the deli cut style deer and placed it on paper next to her body.
It was getting really late and he had to get back. He could hear her comrades starting to stir wondering where she could possibly be. He groaned at the thought of leaving her, but he had to.
When he was securely behind a tree he masked his scent and then shot at Moon mentally for her to wake up. She slowly fluttered her eyes open as she yawned softly to take a minute to realize where she was.
She flipped herself to her side to lean on her one arm. The package right in front of her made her gasp in surprise. She lifted up the package and studied it for a moment before she wiggled her nose to take a whiff.
Her cheeks colored as she noticed it was deer meat. Her stomach growled in response and her hand dropped to her belly. She looked at the package in puzzled awe; she didn’t know what to make of it.
“Moon!” she heard Sam’s deep voice from inside the forest calling for her to get her butt moving. She hustled to her feet and kept the package in her hand. She caught up to Sam as they started to walk back to the front of their cave. It was obvious they were about to go hunting. Moon tucked the package into her dress by her shoulder to keep it from sight.
It was another reason she loved to where old style dresses. It was like having a kimono or something shapely but also having room to tuck things in so it was easier to hold on to. Sam ignored her as he continued on with his hands tucked into his pockets.
“Get ready for hunting, although I shouldn’t have to tell you because you already know.” He sounded very bitter and Moon got a weird feeling creeping up her spine. Tonight was defiantly not a night you wanted to mess with Sam, he was the cold and lethal predator that everyone rumored him to be at this moment.
She didn’t want to be involved in anything so she acted as if she knew nothing was irking him. She just hoped that he didn’t know something that the rest of them didn’t. But she knew as she stared at him, that he did know something…and it wasn’t good.
