*Kaisa*
“Stay here”. I tell Dacian, before following my sister through the hallways and outside. “Where is he ?”
“Over here. The fighters have him cornered”. She points to the laundry building.
I try to prepare myself, but it is not easy when you don’t know what is going on. “So what happened ? You said Braka attacked ?”
“A couple of young girls were working in the laundry room when he came in, snarling and growling. One of them managed to escape, calling for help, the two others..”. She shakes her head, swallowing.
“He… killed them”. I feel a flash of pain. As the Alpha I can’t stand someone in my pack being hurt. Especially if I can do my job and help.
She nods. “He did, he has also injured one of the fighters, Rico”.
“Alpha Kaisa, Alpha Tisha… what should we do ?” Head of our fighters Konte calls. “I am not sure we can hold him back much longer”.
I hurry over there. “Let me try and talk to him”.
“I am not sure he is even capable of listening”. Konte says, shaking his head slightly.
I step up beside him, looking at Braka, whom I have never known to be anything but nice. He is in the corner between the laundry building and another building used for storage, held at bay by Konte and three other fighters with electric prods, that are normally used to get bears out of the area without actually hurting them, mostly the cracking electric sound is enough. But on a human or even a wolf, those hurt a lot.
“Braka !” I step forward, trying to catch his eyes and his attention. “Look at me Braka”.
He just snarls, the sounds coming from him incomprehensible. His eyes are glazed over by a milky white film.
“Braka !” This time I use my Alpha tone. “The rest of you, step back a bit, I think you are stressing him”.
“Are you sure it’s a good idea, Alpha Kaisa ?” Konte says, he looks worried.
I nod, taking another step forward. “Yes, please step back”.
“Kaisa !” My sister says in a warning tone, she is worried too.
“I got this”. I say, stepping forward confidently. “Braka, listen to me, you have to stop”.
He growls, snapping his teeth at me, but I stand my ground. I have to, as an Alpha.
“Braka, I don’t want to hurt you. You are clearly not yourself”. I step closer again. I need to get through to him.
He crouches and half morphs, and I know he is about to jump me.
Then I hear a deep growl behind me, and I am pushed out of the way as a chocolate coloured wolf jumps past me, slamming into Braka in mid air, as he has launched for me.
They tumble to the ground, Konte pulling me to my feet. “Are you okay Alpha Kaisa ?”
“Yeah”. I mumble, watching the chocolate wolf, now awake he is even more majestic.
“Is that…”. Tisha says, stepping up beside me, watching the wolf and the crazed wolfman fight.
I nod. “Yeah, that’s him”.
Watching in horror, Braka bites into Dacian’s shoulder. Suddenly Dacian changes back, which surprises Braka so much he let’s go. Dacian grabs the other man's head, twists hard and… c***k ! Braka slumps to the ground.
*Dacian*
I lean over for a moment, resting my hands on my knees, trying to get my breathing back to normal.
“You… you killed him”. Kaisa says.
“No… choice”. I straighten up. “He attacked you. Are you okay ?”
I feel her come closer. “I am okay. But you shouldn’t have interrupted. I am the Alpha and I was trying to talk him down”.
“God woman, did he look like he could be talked down ?” I lift my head staring at her. I had been so scared she would be hurt and now she is scolding me for saving her.
“Woman !” She glares at me, then she looks at the others. “Could we please have some privacy here ?”
The others nod and pull away. Her sister gives me a cheeky grin, then she disappears into the laundry house. A moment later she comes back out, throwing me a pair of sweatpants. “Not that I am complaining, but I always prefer wearing clothes when she gives me an earful”.
“Tisha, please leave”. Kaisa says, as I quickly pull on the pants.
“Good luck”. The silver-haired woman gives me a grin, before disappearing.
I sigh and run a hand through my hair, looking at Kaisa. “I did what I had to do to protect you and your pack. That guy, he was the same as those pack members who attacked me. There is no reasoning, no getting through to them”.
“It’s not your job protecting my pack.. or me for that matter”. She is all Alpha right now. “And never ever call me ‘woman’ again”.
“How does stubborn she-wolf work then”. I huff.
She grinds her teeth a step closer to me, her voice getting that alpha’s edge. “I would be careful now if I was you”.
And I realise I can fight her, and risk losing her or I can try reasoning with her. “Kaisa, I am sorry if I overstepped some invisible line. Your safety was everything that was on my mind. I simply wanted to keep you safe”.
“I just ..”. She looks at the man on the ground.
I step up, placing my hand on her cheek. “I know, it hurts.. he is part of your pack, part of you. But this.. sickness…or insanity. Whatever it is, it’s bad, really bad”.
“Yeah”. She breathes out slowly. “But also..”.
“You are the boss and you don't like people taking over without permission”. I give her a cheeky smile.
She raises a brow. “You are right, but you know what I hate even more ? People who don't let me finish my sentences”.
“Whoops”. I grin sheepishly. “I am sorry I went against your order, but the thought that you could be hurt… I had to protect you”.
“And flash my sister in the process”. Her eyes run up my chest, stopping at my shoulder. “Are you okay ?”
I look at my shoulder. “Yeah, it’s a bit sore, but it will be closed soon”.
She lets me pull her into my arms and she rests her head on my chest. “I was scared you would be hurt”.
“I am pretty resilient”. I rest my head on top of hers.
“I am starting to realise”. She says, looking up at me, a small smile tugging at her lips.
I look at the guy. To be honest I am not happy that I had to kill him, but I really don't believe I had a choice. “This scares me to be honest… I mean this guy, how can he react the same way as those two who jumped me… what is this ?”
“I… damn I wish I knew”. She glances at the man, then looks away. “He has never been aggressive, or seemed mean in any way. This can’t be random can it ?”
Memories of milky eyes, fear and pain sweep over me for a moment. “I have a hard time believing it is just random… we need to find out if there is any connection here”.
“You are right”. She says, grabbing my hand. “I need to call a meeting, and get someone to… clean up here. Probably I should warn other packs too”.
“As you wish Alpha”. I follow her.
She turns her head. “Just Kaisa, it feels better”.
“Or baby ?” I give her a cheeky grin to lighten the mood.
“Maybe we should stick with Alpha”. She c***s an eyebrow.
I sigh and almost roll my eyes. “Kaisa it is”.
“Good boy”. She grins. “Come on”.
