The Last Mermaid

For centuries, mermaids have existed only in legends.

Hidden beneath the depths of the Sapphire Sea, Daisy has spent her entire life in a secret sanctuary protected by ancient magic. Alone except for her sea-spirit companion, she is believed to be the last of her kind—the final survivor of a race wiped from history.

But when a terrifying force from the abyss destroys her sanctuary, Daisy is forced into a world she has never known.

A world of immortal rulers, forgotten prophecies, and dangerous magic.

When her path crosses with Prince Cassian Aurelius, the enigmatic heir to the Kingdom of Aetheria, everything changes. Half celestial and half immortal, Cassian has spent centuries searching for his place in the world. The last thing he expects is to find it in the girl the ocean has been hiding.

As dark powers awaken and an ancient sea sorceress rises to claim dominion over both land and sea, Daisy discovers a truth that could change everything: she carries the Heart of the Ocean, a legendary power capable of restoring the mermaid race—or destroying the world.

Bound together by fate and an ancient prophecy, Daisy and Cassian must navigate deadly secrets, forbidden magic, and a love powerful enough to unite kingdoms.

But as war approaches and the darkness closes in, Daisy faces an impossible choice:

Save the world she has come to love, or sacrifice everything to bring her people back.

In a realm where legends are real and destiny cannot be escaped, one last mermaid may hold the fate of all creation in her hands.

A sweeping romantasy filled with magic, adventure, supernatural romance, ancient prophecies, and a heart-stopping happily-ever-after.

Chapter 1 & 2 The song beneath the seas
The ocean remembered. It remembered kingdoms swallowed by time, songs lost to silence, and names that no living creature spoke anymore. Daisy often wondered if the ocean remembered her mother. The thought followed her as she swam through the hidden sanctuary, weaving between towers of luminous coral that rose from the seafloor like castles carved from moonlight. Tiny silver fish scattered at her approach, their scales flashing like fallen stars. Above her, sunlight filtered through the water in pale golden ribbons. Below, the sanctuary glowed. Every stone, every shell, every crystal archway shimmered with ancient magic. It was beautiful. It was peaceful. And it was painfully lonely. Daisy slowed beside a garden of sapphire sea lilies, letting her fingers brush their glowing petals. The flowers folded inward at her touch, then reopened once she passed. For a moment, she imagined another mermaid swimming beside her. A sister. A friend. Anyone. The image disappeared as quickly as it had come. There was no one. There had never been anyone. At least, not in her memory. Nineteen years ago, a sea spirit had found an infant wrapped in enchanted kelp near the sanctuary's gates. No parents. No clues. No explanation. Only a necklace shaped like a pearl. And a baby girl with a silver tail. That baby had been Daisy. The last mermaid. Or so everyone believed. The title felt less like an honor and more like a curse. "Daisy!" A familiar voice broke through her thoughts. She smiled despite herself. Lyra shot through the water like a streak of blue light. The sea spirit looked no older than Daisy, though spirits aged differently from mortal creatures. Her translucent hair floated around her face like liquid sapphire, and tiny sparks of magic danced around her fingertips. "There you are," Lyra said. "I've searched half the sanctuary." "You searched the places where you thought I'd be." "Exactly." "Which isn't the same thing." "It is when you're predictable." Daisy laughed. The sound echoed softly through the water. Lyra blinked. "What?" "Nothing." "What?" "I haven't heard you laugh in days." Daisy's smile faded. The truth was that she hadn't had much reason to laugh lately. Something felt wrong. The ocean itself seemed uneasy. Currents shifted without warning. Whales no longer traveled near the sanctuary. Even the ancient barrier protecting their home flickered more often than before. Nobody could explain why. Lyra drifted beside her. "You're thinking again." "I always think." "Too much." "Someone has to." "No, they don't." Daisy rolled her eyes. "You make everything sound simple." "Most things are." "Not this." Lyra's expression softened. The sea spirit knew exactly what Daisy meant. There were some subjects they both avoided. Mermaids. The past. The future. The unbearable possibility that Daisy truly was alone. They continued swimming through the sanctuary's winding paths. Ancient structures surrounded them. Ruins older than memory. No one knew who had built them. Some claimed they were remnants of the First Mermaid Kingdom. Others believed they predated even that. Daisy often explored them when she couldn't sleep. The ruins made her feel connected to something larger than herself. Connected to a history she barely understood. As they approached the sanctuary's northern edge, Daisy noticed something unusual. The fish had vanished. Not a single one remained. Her stomach tightened. "Lyra." The sea spirit immediately became alert. "I see it." The silence felt wrong. Underwater, there was always sound. The distant song of whales. The movement of currents. The chatter of sea creatures. Now there was nothing. An unnatural stillness hung over the water. Then came the c***k. A sharp sound echoed through the sanctuary. Daisy spun toward it. "What was that?" The c***k came again. This time it was louder. The sound seemed to be coming from the cliffs ahead. Without waiting, Daisy darted forward. Lyra followed close behind. They rounded a massive coral formation and stopped abruptly. The ancient monument stood before them. Or what remained of it. Daisy's breath caught. The monument had stood untouched for centuries. Now deep fractures ran across its surface. Chunks of crystal lay scattered across the seafloor. The sight filled her with dread. This wasn't natural. Something had damaged it. Something powerful. Slowly, Daisy approached. Ancient symbols covered the stone. Most had faded long ago. Others still glowed faintly beneath layers of age and salt. She reached out. The moment her fingers touched the monument, a pulse of magic surged through the water. Blue light exploded across the carvings. The symbols awakened. Lyra gasped. The monument had never responded before. Not once. The glowing letters rearranged themselves. Words emerged from the ancient stone. Daisy read them aloud. "When darkness rises from the abyss..." The water around them trembled. "...the Last Mermaid shall awaken the Heart of the Ocean." Her voice faltered. The Last Mermaid. Again. Always those words. As though the ocean itself refused to let her forget. "Daisy..." Lyra whispered. But Daisy couldn't look away. More words appeared. "The fate of sea and land shall rest within her song." A chill ran through her body. The prophecy felt alive. Watching. Waiting. As if it had been sleeping for centuries and had finally awakened. Suddenly the monument cracked again. A violent tremor surged through the sanctuary. The seafloor shook. Coral towers swayed. Clouds of sand exploded upward. Daisy grabbed a nearby rock to steady herself. "What is happening?" Another tremor followed. Stronger. Far stronger. The sanctuary groaned. Ancient walls fractured. Pieces of crystal broke free and tumbled into the darkness below. Fear gripped Daisy's chest. This wasn't an earthquake. It felt deliberate. Like something striking against the world itself. Then she heard it. A roar. The sound emerged from the deepest part of the ocean. Ancient. Monstrous. Filled with hatred. Every instinct inside her screamed danger. Fish erupted from hiding. Sea creatures fled in every direction. Even the currents seemed to recoil. The roar came again. Closer. Much closer. Lyra's face had gone pale. "We need to leave." Daisy nodded. For the first time in her life, she was afraid of the sea. Another roar thundered through the depths. The protective barrier surrounding the sanctuary flickered. Once. Twice. Then a section of it shattered. Daisy stared in horror. The barrier had never broken. Never. Beyond the opening lay only darkness. Endless darkness. For several seconds nothing moved. Then two enormous golden eyes opened within the abyss. Watching. Searching. Hunting. The creature remained hidden, but Daisy felt its gaze lock onto her. Not the sanctuary. Not Lyra. Her. A terrible certainty settled into her bones. The prophecy. The monument. The weakening barrier. None of it was a coincidence. Something had awakened in the depths. Something ancient enough to remember the age of mermaids. And somehow, impossibly— It knew she was still alive. The creature released one final roar. The sanctuary shook. Cracks raced across the ancient walls. Coral shattered. Magic flared. And Daisy realized that her world was about to end. The Last Mermaid had been found.
