"You had one job, just one and your job was to keep her safe!! How did she get kidnapped??" Allesandro fumed
" I'm sorry Boss" Dante said, his face facing downwards.
"And you" Allesandro facing Elena "The only reason I let you go out was because Dante was with you, why were you alone??"
"Sorry papa" Elena, in a tone barely above a whisper
"Sorry?? U won't be saying sorry if something bad had happened to you!!! . You are just so stubborn and difficult, you never listen...to anyone but yourself".
"I am sorry " Elena, amidst tears.
"Boss , I know you are angry and I understand why but at least the girl is safe," Leo said, trying to defend the two.
" Dante never fails a mission and he didn't today, he got Elena back safe and sound and I am very sure she has learnt her lesson about moving around unprotected"
"Yes Dad, I have " Elena chipped in.
"Please Don, go easy on them" Leo added, aiming at subduing his boss's anger.
"Leo , I don't care how long it takes and what excuses you have. Find those kidnappers. No one messes with Don Allesandro and gets away with it alive. Find them!!!" Allesandro's deep, threatening voice commanded.
"Yes boss" Leo responded.
" From now on ,you are Elena's personal bodyguard, Dante. Anywhere she goes you go, you are not allowed to be more than five feet away from her. That is your punishment ". Allesandro gaze bore into Dante.
Elena and Dante were shocked by what Allesandro's statement.
"But boss, what about the business??? I am the head lieutenant " Dante protested.
" The business will be fine and Leo is here to supervise everything ".
Elena, still short of words stuttered"Dad no...you can't do this to me, please "
"Cara, I am doing this for your own good . It is not safe out there .My mind won't be at peace knowing fully well you are out alone and I can't keep you locked up in the mansion ". Allesandro concluded.
"But pa..." Elena protested before being cut short by her father.
"That's enough, you can all go," Allesandro said, pointing at the door.
Elena , Dante and Leo left the office. While Elena headed to her room, Leo and Dante stood outside the door.
"You have to talk to Don, I didn't spend my years training to be anyone's babysitter " Dante complained.
"There's nothing I can do, Dante. You know how the boss is. Just do your job well and maybe he will let you resume your position " Leo said ,patting Dante on the back before walking away.
As Dante walked down the staircase, he bumped into Elena who was heading towards the kitchen for a drink. Immediately, the two set eyes on each other, anger ignited in their gazes.
The atmosphere became tense, filled with rage.
"You know this is all your fault," Elena accused.
"My fault?? How is this my fault??" Dante's eyes narrowed."This wouldn't have happened if you weren't being so ridiculous and petty".
Disgusted, Elena rolled her eyes" I wouldn't have been so ridiculous and petty if you had just stayed in your lane. Not only did you flirt around, you also beat up an innocent person !!!".
"I wasn't flirting, I was just doing my goddamn job!!" Dante, trying so hard to defend himself and not enrage the boss's daughter.
"And why do you care if I flirt with someone??" Dante said moving closer to Elena.
Shocked, Elena moved backward, creating more space between her and Dante. "I have no business with your love life, but I'm sure Dad would love...to know that you were flirting while on duty. Maybe then he'll reduce you to a security man". Elena threatened.
"I wasn't, " Dante said calmly.
"Whatever" Elena hissed, walking straight into the kitchen.
Just as Elena left, Dante pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
"We have a minor setback," Dante said, scanning the room.
" Meet me there in an hour," he said, ending the call.
