The Offer Of Revenge

Chapter Five – The Offer of Revenge Her POV I paced the room, my hands clenching and unclenching. The anger inside me throbbed like a live wire. Alaric had humiliated me in front of his entire pack. My dreams, my trust, my properties… everything I had fought for… all gone in an instant. And the worst part? I had thought I was loved. Foolish, naive me. The door opened quietly, and I froze. A man stepped in. Tall. Calm. His presence immediately filled the room. His dark eyes scanned me carefully, and there was something in his gaze—something sharp, something dangerous, but also… knowing. “I know what Alaric did to you,” he said quietly. My chest tightened. My head whipped toward him. “Have you been watching me? Monitoring me?” My voice trembled, part fear, part anger. He tilted his head slightly, almost amused. “Maybe,” he said. “But not for the reasons you think.” I stared at him. “Then… why?” He stepped closer, slow and deliberate. His voice lowered, a steady cadence that seemed to calm the storm inside me. “I am also planning on taking revenge on Alaric . On everything he has done.” My heart skipped. “What… what do you mean? Revenge?” His eyes darkened. “He has hurt people he should have protected. He has betrayed his pack. I know he… harmed my sister, ever since then, I planned to revenge on him for my sister, and he didn’t care who else he trampled to get what he wanted. And now, he has hurt you, too.” The room seemed to shrink around me. My anger flared, burning hotter. “I… I can’t believe he did this,” I whispered. “I trusted him… I gave him everything…” My voice cracked. “Everything.” He stepped closer, close enough that I could feel the warmth of his body, the energy radiating from him. “I understand,” he said softly. “And that is why we can join hands… together… to make him pay. To take back everything he stole and more.” I froze. The words sank into my chest. Together… to take him down. My mind raced. My properties, my reputation, my dreams… all of it stolen by him, and now… maybe there was a way to get it back. I took a shaky breath. “Can I… can I trust you?” I asked, my voice almost a whisper. “How do I know you’re not… like him? How do I know you won’t betray me too?” He didn’t answer right away. He studied me, his eyes softening, but still holding that dangerous edge. Then he slowly, carefully, put his hand on my waist. Not in a way that frightened me—but in a way that made me notice he was steady, grounded. “I am both human and wolf,” he said quietly. “I know the pain of being used. I know what it feels like to trust and be betrayed. I have felt it, and I have survived it. And I will not let you suffer like that.” I swallowed hard. My chest tightened. My thoughts were a storm. Could I trust him? Could I believe someone again after Alaric ? But… something in his presence, his calm, his certainty, made a small part of me hope. He leaned slightly closer, his voice dropping. “You don’t have to make this fight alone. I know the world you live in. I know the humans who will betray you. And I know the pack world—how to use it. Together… we can make him pay. And I promise… I will not hurt you. Not like he did. Not ever.” I bit my lip, looking down at my hands. Part of me wanted to scream, cry, shake him off—but another part of me, the part that had been crushed by betrayal, felt a spark of something… protection. A chance. Maybe finally… someone would understand, someone who could fight alongside me, not against me. “How… how do I know this isn’t another trick?” I asked finally, my voice shaky. He smiled faintly, brushing a strand of hair from my face—a gentle, careful motion. “Because I don’t need to trick you. I have my own reasons to bring him down. And you… you are part of that. You’re not just a tool for me. You’re human, clever, strong. And right now… you have been wronged. That is enough reason for us to work together.” I looked into his eyes. There was something in them—something steady, real, unshakable. I felt my shoulders loosen, my chest release some of the tension I had been holding for hours, days, weeks. The betrayal was still raw, but… maybe there was hope. Maybe there was a way to reclaim everything I had lost. “I… I want him to pay,” I whispered finally, my voice gaining strength. “I want everything back. And I… I want him to regret everything.” He nodded, just a small, deliberate motion, and a dangerous smile curved on his lips. “Good,” he said. “Then we start tonight. And you will not be alone. I will guide you, protect you… and together, we will make Alaric realize that betrayal has consequences.” I felt a shiver run through me. Fear, anger, and… something else. Something like excitement. A sense of control I hadn’t felt in days. For the first time since that day, I felt… ready. “Thank you,” I said softly. “For noticing. For helping. For… not being like him.” He tilted his head, his hand still resting lightly on my waist. “Rest now,” he said, his voice low, almost a whisper. “You’ll need your strength. Tomorrow… the work begins.” And for the first time in what felt like forever, I allowed myself to close my eyes, let my exhaustion take over, and drift into a restless, but determined, sleep.
