Tonight
Chapter One
Her POV
I took a slow breath, trying to steady my shaking hands. “Tonight,” I said, my voice firm even though my stomach fluttered nervously, “tonight, we are about to make history. The first human… and wolf… to be married. Can you feel that? This is our moment.”
As the CEO of Sterling Group, the most famous company in the country, I was used to being different. I did things my way. I was the only female CEO in the country, the only woman leading such a huge company. And now… I was about to marry the Alpha of the Nightmoon Pack. Somehow, it didn’t surprise me. I had always done things differently. I’ve had many exes back home, and every one of them betrayed me. Some even tried to take my properties. Now, I have a wolf who loves me for who I am, not for what I own.
Alaric had power of his own, territory. A pack that feared and obeyed him. He didn’t need what I had built. Marrying him didn’t just promise love, it promised safety, status. A shield human man could ever give me.
Alaric stood across from me, tall, strong, and imposing. The Alpha of the Nightmoon Pack. His dark eyes glinted under the soft light of the office. Calm. Confident. Unshaken. He had always shown me love, had promised me that even though I was human, he would make me his mate. I had waited for this moment for so long.
Every move he made showed power, control, and a dangerous grace. I swallowed hard, trying to ignore the fluttering in my chest.
He tilted his head, his face unreadable. “I wonder,” he said softly, his voice low and smooth, “if our children will be humans… or wolves.”
My heart tightened. I had imagined this moment a thousand times. I had dreamed about it, worked for it, fought for it. And yet… hearing him speak about something so personal made me feel small, exposed.
“I want them to be human,” I said firmly, my hands clenching in my lap. “I want them safe. Free from battles, politics, and pack fights. I don’t want them to carry the dangers of your world. I want them to be like me.”
He smiled faintly, a slow curve that sent shivers down my spine. “I want a male,” he said, steady and deliberate. “A wolf. Strong. To carry my blood. My power. My name. Someone to inherit everything I am… everything I will be.”
A twinge of fear shot through me, but also… excitement. This marriage was bigger than I had imagined. Not just for me, but for our future. For what we could make together. For a moment, I almost forgot my nerves and allowed myself to hope.
He stepped closer. The air seemed to change around him. His presence filled the room like gravity. I could feel it pulling me in. My heart raced. I tried to stay calm, tried to keep my voice steady.
“Do you bring the signed documents?” he asked, his eyes steady, piercing.
I reached into my briefcase and took out the smooth stack of papers. My lands, my properties, everything I had built at Sterling Company, everything I had fought for… all in my hands. I slid them across the desk toward him, my chest tight but my chin held high.
“Yes,” I said. My voice was firm, even though my hands shook slightly. “After all, you are announcing me as your mate tonight. Whatever I have… you have. What’s yours is mine.”
He picked up the papers, scanning them carefully. The corners of his lips curved into a slow, deliberate smile. “I am happy to be with you,” he said softly. Relief, pride, and satisfaction ran through me for the first time that day.
He picked up the pen. My fingers gripped the edge of the desk. I felt like I was holding my breath, waiting. When he finally signed the papers, I exhaled, a small shiver of triumph running through me.
“It feels… real,” I whispered to myself. “It finally feels real.”
His eyes met mine, quiet and intense. I felt the weight of what we were about to do, the gravity of our union. And yet… I was ready. I had fought to be here. Fought for my dreams, for my company, for this moment.
Then the door opened.
I froze.
A woman stepped in. Confident. Bold. Beautiful in a way that made my chest tighten painfully. Her heels clicked against the polished floor. Each step echoed in my ears. My heart lurched.
She walked closer. And then… she kissed him.
I couldn’t move. My body stiffened. My hands gripped the desk so hard I thought I might break it. My chest felt like it had been crushed.
Alaric didn’t pull away. His hand lingered on hers. His lips still curved into that slow, wicked smile.
Is this a dream? A performance? Or..
