Life Just Got Harder

Blythe Walking down stairs in my jeans, white halter top, and red and black plaid shirt I stopped when I saw Duncan sitting on the couch not to far from me. He looked me over and hotly asked, "Do you ever wear conservative clothes?" I looked at him, "Do you ever smile?" Duncan glared at me, "No." I shrugged, "Then no." Duncan frowned with his displeasure but I smiled at him like I had did nothing wrong. Duncan sighed and pointed to the door, "Let's go." Smirking I walked past him to the car but he grabbed me as I tried to get by and yanked me to him, "Don't think you've won, I always get my way and you flaunting that body of yours isn't going to work." I glared up at him and snatched away, "Don't go there butt munch. I can wear what I want and I'll love to see you stop me." Duncan started to speak but I hotly asked, "Do you always have a stick up your ass or is that just when I'm around?" Getting into the car I glared out the window as he drove. When we got to my parents house he started to get out but I glared at him, "Stay!" Duncan hissed at me, "You have me mistaken for a wolf darling, I don't bark and follow commands." I rolled my eyes, "I don't need you to bark but follow commands Count Drac shouldn't be to hard for you." Going into the house I smiled at my mom and dad. "Hey honey, how was your night with Duncan?" I shrugged, "Fine." My dad stared at me for a second and then asked, "You've never lied to us before why are you starting now?" I blushed and looked away. "I think something's wrong. He can't be my mate." My mom came to me closely, "Why not darling?" Looking awkwardly at dad I looked back to mom, and she gently pushed him out of the room. She knew what I wanted to say I couldn't say in front of dad. Dad looked hurt considering I never told mom to send him out before. But this couldn't be said in front of him. Mom came to me closely and said, "Why are you doubting you two's connection?" I sighed, "He hasn't looked at me, he doesn't want to touch me, and he's acting like I'm a chore and not his future wife. I feel like," I sighed, "I feel like he's only putting up with me because it's expected for him too." My mom shook her head, "No darling he finds you irresistible. But he must be fighting it for some reason." I looked down, "Why would he unless there was someone else?" My mom bit her bottom lip as my eyes welled up. "Darling, just talk to him,"I looked at my mom and she wiped under my eyes, "Talk to him about this, tell him how you feel." I nodded and got my things. Walking out of the house I got back in the car and didn't say a word to Duncan. He drove in silence as well but I could feel him looking at me with questions in his eyes. He wanted to know why I was upset, he wanted me to talk to him. But why should I talk to someone who made me doubt every thing I loved about myself? As we pulled back up to his house I hopped out of his car and held my bag to me tight. Walking through his house in the day time was way more beautiful. Looking around the living room I was then in a hallway before looking at the door to my room. I still didn't say anything to Duncan as I walked in. Before I could close the door he asked, "Are you okay?" Looking at him I asked softly, "Are you with someone else?" Duncan jerked back and stared at me before asking annoyed, "What makes you ask that?" I shook my head fast and croaked out, "You know what don't even worry about it." Because based on that reaction the answer was yes. Closing the door quickly I scurried to my bed and dialed my sister. She didn't answer and after calling her again and sending her a text I still didn't get a reply. Sniffling I then tried Clary and she didn't answer either. After pushing my phone down on the bed I curled up on my side and just stared up at the full moon that seemed incredibly close. The next morning when I woke up I sighed and pushed my hair out of my face. Sitting up I looked around the room and then to the door. Seeing a woman checking me out from a the door way I sighed and asked, "Can I help you?" She stared at me for a second before walking out. Rolling my eyes I grabbed my jar out of my bag and sat on the balcony in the cold night air. Smoking weed I blasted music from my speaker. Singing along I jumped when a cold hand touched my shoulder. Turning around I looked at Duncan and smiled at him. "Hey." Duncan stiffened as the puff of weed blew in his face and I snorted a little, "Sorry." Duncan looked me over, "Put it out." I looked at him and whispered, "Why? Tempted?" Is he? Duncan growled at me, "I'm trying to have an adult conversation with you, put it out." Putting out the blunt I watched Duncan pace in front of me and I stared at him as he tried to find the right words. When he finally looked at me he whispered, "Look I can't go there with you yet, but there is no one else." I looked at him and he sighed, "I didn't think I'd fine you this early. We usually don't find our mates until at least our thirties. Now isn't good for me." I sniffled feeling everything in me ringing in pain. "So what do you want from me? For me to wait until you feel like dealing with me? Until it's right for you? Until you're done with whoever is keeping your attention?" Duncan looked at me annoyed, "Don't do that. It's not like that." I let out a strangled noise of protest, "How else am I supposed to view you treating me like the common cold and you telling me to wait on whatever this is keeping us apart? We're supposed to be mates and yet I have felt nothing from you other than grievance." Duncan looked at me with his silver eyes and I watched them burst into silver flames. Suddenly looming over me Duncan hissed dangerously close to me, "Listen Blythe I'm asking you to be patient and to not cause a scene. I would have let you stay with your parents but I needed you close in case someone got the idea to hurt you to get to me." I rolled my eyes to the ceiling. "Fine. Do whatever you want Duncan." Pushing him back I walked in the room and faced away from him. I didn't think he was telling me the whole truth. So of course my biggest insecurity was that there was someone who he couldn't let go of yet. Whether it was an ex, a booty call, someone was holding him back. Dragging my fingers through my hair I listened to him leave without another word I sat on my plush carpet in silent agony.
