Chapter 14

1252 Words
It's almost Halloween. I feel like I've been pregnant for years. I am huge. I can't even see my own feet anymore. I have to wear Sawyer's sweat pants because my yoga pants leave lines on my waist which makes my stretch marks itchy. I need help getting out of bed in the morning. I waddle like a penguin. Jason laughs at me. Sawyer has been so great. He spends more time with me in the house than he does outside. If he's working with a horse, I'll sit in the barn with Phoenix and brush her out. I don't tie her to the isle anymore, because she refuses to leave my side when I am with her. Wherever I go she follows. Sawyer got me a special tack box for Phoenix. It's pink of course. I have all of her brushes in there. If I drop the brush Phoenix will pick it up for me. Sawyer was surprised when it happened one day. He had never seen anything like it before. He says it's because of the connection I have with her. We have our Halloween costumes. We decided to go as Khal Drogo and Khaleesi from Game of Thrones. Sawyer and I binge watch it on the days I'm too tired to move after he is done with the horses. I have my mother of dragons costume with three small dragons that sit on the shoulder. With Sawyer's farmers tan he can pull the look off perfect. Finally it was time for the big Halloween party. I was in the blue dress that Danny wears in season 3 or 4 when she liberates the unsullied. I put the mini dragons on my shoulders and I make my way downstairs. Sawyer looks like he was made for a Dothraki King. "You ready to go, my queen?" "As I'll ever be, I've never been a fan of huge crowds." I said shyly. "Don't worry, I'll be with you the whole time." I smiled brightly. When we arrived at the Town Hall I heard the monster mash song blaring through the speakers. The townsfolk were walking into the Hall all dressed up in different costumes. Jason decided to go as Pennywise. He knows I hate that movie and it terrifies me. "Come on Georgie," He said behind me in a scary tone. I turned around and punched him hard. "DON'T DO THAT EVER!" I growled. "You can walk your ass back home now!" I walked away leaving Sawyer and Jason butt hurt. "Jerk" I mumbled under my breath as walked into the Hall. People we already dancing and drinking the night away. There were a couple cauldrons with blood read punch in them. I walked up to the table and asked the lady in a nurse costume they had non alcoholic beverages. She handed me a cup of punch that didn't have anything in it. I thanked her and I went to find a place to sit down. I have a hard time standing on my feet for a period of time. "Tired, my'lady?" Sawyer asked as he walked up to the chair I was sitting on. "My feet are but other than that I feel great." I said. Sawyer sat down in the chair next to me and picked up my feet to massage them. I saw Jason scare a few girls with his costume. "My brother is a jerk this time of year." I said glaring at him. "Shoulda seen him last year. He went as leatherface, he carried a chain saw with him. I'm surprised the cops didn't arrest him." Sawyer said. I laughed. "See I told you, a jerk." I laughed even more as I saw Jason go into the bathroom. As the night went on Sawyer Jason and I danced, and drank some punch, non alcoholic of course. I stayed with water as the punch didn't agree with the girls. I sat off to the side when Sawyer and Jason started on the pranks. Then the best costume contest winner was being announced. "Sawyer and Alison with Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen!" Someone called from the podium. Sawyer walked up and grabbed a coupon for the general store. As the night went on there was a strange man that kept looking at Sawyer. "Sawyer who is that man the keeps looking at you?" I asked him and Sawyer froze. "Dad?" He said. His mom died and his dad went of to join a rodeo. "Hey son." He said "Can we talk outside?" "Don't 'hey son' me! you're the one who left, remember?" Sawyer snapped. I could see the anger on his face. I walked over to him and put my hand on his shoulder. "Sawyer, I know things have been rough for you, but you don't have to do this." Sawyer sighed. Then looked his dad right in the eyes. "I want nothing from you. You should just leave. I will be a better father than you ever were." Sawyer said then put his arm on the small of my back then gently pulled me away from him. Jason watched the whole ordeal and followed us out to the truck. "Sawyer!" His dad called out to Sawyer as he helped me into the truck. "No! I don't want to hear the excuses." Sawyer seethed. "You don't understand, I did it for the ranch." His dad said sadly. "The ranch prospered after you left." Sawyer said. "Exactly. I was winning rodeos and giving your mom the winnings for the ranch." Sawyer gasped. "I don't believe you." Sawyer looked torn. I put my hand on his shoulder through the open window. "After mom died I took over the responsibility of growing the ranch to the successful business it is today, without your money." "Sawyer believe me when I say this. I helped your mom to keep the ranch going." "You need to leave. I don't want you here. I don't need you here." Sawyer said enraged. He got in the truck and turned the heat on because I was shivering a little bit. "Sawyer." I whispered to him. "Not now Alison please." He said through clenched teeth. Jason put his on on my shoulder and gave me a reassuring smile. The whole drive home was intense. I rested my head on the back seat. I closed my eyes and rubbed my belly. They were getting a little more active now, and it hurt when they kicked. I tried to hide the pain that the bumps in the road caused but it became too much. "Sawyer you should stop for a little bit, Alison is in some pain." "No we're almost home." He seethed through clenched teeth. The driveway wasn't much better. If felt worse. "Sawyer please stop." Jason tired again. But to no ovail did it work. Sawyer's face became hard in anger. He lost him in his own mind. Jason held me protectively like a big brother should. He felt the twins kick harder with each bump. Once Sawyer parked the truck he stomped up to the house compl forgetting about my pregnant self. I gasped, but the pain was subsiding. Jason helped me out. "I have to talk to him, Jason." I said Shyly. I saw Jason tense. "In the morning. You need to get some rest." Jason said sternly. I sighed then agreed. Jason gave me his bed while he pulled a cot out of the barn loft. He said that I should give Sawyer some space.
