Chapter 4

I had a nightmare again last night. James had found me, and beat me again. I must have been screaming, because Sawyer ran into my room in the middle of the night to calm me down. Sawyer stayed in the room with him until I had calmed down. I woke up and he was still in the room. He was in the rocking chair passed out. I took my vitamins and I decided I would make breakfast for the three of us. Sawyer came running frantically down the stairs. "You should have woken me up, I would've helped you with breakfast." he said taking a breath to calm his own panic. I chuckled. I have never had anyone like him aside from Jason caring for me like this. "It's fine, you stayed with me last night it's the least I could do." I smiled warmly at him. "Alison, I want you to trust me." he said walking up behind me. I turned to face him. "I am feeling something for you." I felt my body heat up in a frenzy. Maybe just maybe I am feeling something for him too. "You don't have to say anything, I know I came out strong. You have been through something terrible." "Sawyer, every time you're around I can't think straight, you do something to me. I can't explain it." I admitted shaking a little. Sawyer took a step back when Jason entered the kitchen. I mentally face palmed myself. How can I be so stupid? I pretty much confessed to him. I turned back to pull my casserole out of the oven. Sawyer brought the stakes inside. I pulled some sweet tea that I had made before Sawyer distracted me. After lunch I decided to take a nap, as I laid down in the bed there was a knock on the door. Sawyer opened the door. I smiled at him. "I was wondering if you wanted to go out tonight?" he asked a little red. "Like a date?" I asked a little embarrassed. "Yeah" he replied with a nervous smile. "Sure, why not. I need some fun in my life." I smiled. He said he would get me around 5 o'clock, and that I should wear something nice. Then he left the room. I became too excited to take a nap, so I decided to call Jason. I needed to talk to him. He rushed into my room where I was pacing. Trying to control my breathing. He grabbed me gently by the shoulders. "Alison, stop. Everything will be fine. He already talked to me about asking you out on a date. You don't need to worry about me. Alright?" Jason picked out some clothes for me to try on. There was a nice dress that caught my eye. It was a lavender colored dress that just so happened to be a little short just mid thigh length. I got cleaned up. I curled my hair, and put mascara on. I rarely put make-up on. James always said it made me look trashy, but yet he was the one that would screw around then come home and beat me. I pushed him out of my mind, until he called me again, I will be getting a new number when I go in for my appointment. I have had enough. So I answered. "James stop, I will no longer be your f*****g victim. You can't control me anymore. I'm f*****g done." Then I hung up. I turned my phone off, and put it in the bedside table drawer. It was almost 5 o'clock, when I looked at the time. I put on some sandals and walked downstairs. I got some sweet tea out of the fridge. I needed something to drink. Sawyer comes down shortly after. His sandy colored hair was slicked back. His tan colored shirt fit him perfectly. I could see his muscles through his shirt. I just wanted to feel them under my finger tips. His jeans hugged him in places that I wanted to squeeze. What? What am I thinking right now? I need to clear my head of these thoughts. "Well you look nice." Sawyer winked at me and I blushed. "Thank you. You don't look to bad, cowboy." I smiled back. "Let's go," Sawyer held out his hand for me to take. I gladly took his hand. He grinned, showing his perfect teeth. He opened the door to his truck, and helped me in. Jason waved us off. He seems pretty content with this. We drove in comfortable silence for a while. I felt Sawyer put his arm around my shoulder on the back of the seat. "Want me to move closer?" I asked. "Only if you're comfortable with that." Sawyer smiled. I slid over in the seat next to him He drove some more as I laid my head on his shoulder. "What kind of music do you listen to?" he asked. "It really depends in the mood." I replied. He handed me his phone and a phone jack. "You can play whatever song you want." He smiled. I started to look through the song list on his phone. There were a lot of country songs. Well of course there is, he's a country boy. I decided on Stronger by Kelly Clarkson. I started to sing my heart out. You know the bed feels warmer Sleeping here alone You know I dream in color And do the things I want You think you got the best of me Think you had the last laugh Bet you think that everything good is gone Think you left me broken down Think that I'd come running back Baby you don't know me, 'cause you're dead wrong What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone What doesn't kill you makes a fighter Footsteps even lighter Doesn't mean I'm over 'cause you're gone What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger Just me, myself and I What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone You heard that I was starting over with someone new But told you I was moving on over you You didn't think that I'd come back I'd come back swinging You try to break me but you see what doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone What doesn't kill you makes a fighter Footsteps even lighter Doesn't mean I'm over 'cause you're gone What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger Just me, myself and I What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone Thanks to you I got a new thing started Thanks to you I'm not the broken-hearted Thanks to you I'm finally thinking 'bout me You know in the end the day to left was just my beginning In the end What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone What doesn't kill you makes a fighter Footsteps even lighter Doesn't mean I'm over 'cause you're gone What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger Just me, myself and What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, stronger Just me, myself and I What doesn't kill you makes you stronger Stand a little taller Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone When I'm alone Sawyer looked at me pretty stunned. "You have an incredible voice." He finally found some words. I blushed. Not long later we arrived at the restaurant where he placed a reservation. I smiled as he helped me out of the truck. The parking lot seemed pretty dead. There was a lot of good food, but I had a taste for some Alfredo pasta. We shared a chocolate lava cake. We also decided to take a stroll in the park. The sun was starting to set. My feet where getting a little sore. There was a park bench that we sat down on. Sawyer talked about his parents and how his dad left when he was younger to pursue a career in rodeo. His mom passed away a couple years ago. Car accident from a drink driver. Killed her instantly. My heart broke for him. Jason told him about our parents, and how he raised me. Sawyer is really passionate about helping people. The sunset was casting a glow over Sawyer's tanned skin. His honey brown eye were sparkling in the lighting. My body continued to get hot under his gaze. He took my hand in his and we walked back to the truck. We started to drive back to the ranch. When we reached the main highway to the ranch, Sawyer pulled over. "I'm sorry, but I have to do this." He said then pulled me into him. His lips landed on mine in a heated, passionate kiss. His strong calloused hands caressed my back, and one cupped the back off my head as I kissed him back. I moaned into the kiss, and his arm tightened on the small of my back. He bit the bottom lip for access for his tongue. I parted my mouth for him to enter. My fingers grasped his hair on the back of his head. He trailed a firey blaze down my jaw to my neck. He gently bit the soft spot on my neck and shoulder after I moved my head to the side to give him more room. My breath hitched in my throat. My care was on fire for more. I had never felt this way before. "Sawyer," I whispered. My throat was dry from the heat of the kiss. I could feel his shaft against his jeans. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach from the kiss as his lips landed back on mine. I knew he was reluctant to pull away. He rested his forehead against mine. His hand rested on the lower part of my stomach where the baby was growing. "I won't let anything happen to the both of you." He said as he looked into my eyes. "Sawyer," my voice started to crack. "I have felt more towards you than I have towards anyone in my life." He smiled, I could see the truth in his eyes. "Promise?" I asked. I needed to be sure I wasn't being jerked around. "I promise," he said as he kissed me again. When we arrived back home, the house was quiet. Jason had already gone to bed. Sawyer walked me to my room. He gave me a good night kiss then went to his room. I closed the door and laid in bed. I touched my fingers to my lips. The image of him kissing me replayed on my mind until I fell asleep.
