Hayden was astonishingly unaware of even his own wife's workplace. Ignoring him completely, Yasmine moved straight to assess Isabella's condition.
The injury on Isabella's arm was minor; no signs of infection, and the bleeding wasn't serious. The so-called wound was actually something that could be easily managed with an over-the-counter bandage.
"This doesn't warrant a hospital stay," Yasmine declared professionally, ready to leave the scene.
However, Isabella stopped her. "Wait!"
"May I help you?" Yasmine responded and turned around mechanically, her face still devoid of emotion.
"I believe you're refusing to treat me due to personal issues. I'm going to file a complaint against you," Isabella said with her smile loaded with challenge.
"Suit yourself," Yasmine shot back with a hint of mockery. "I don't treat delusions. That's a job for a psychiatrist."
"What did you just say?!" Isabella screamed and charged at her, aiming to slap Yasmine.
Yasmine's face remained impassive as she hooked a nearby cart with her foot, positioning it between herself and Isabella. Unable to dodge in time, Isabella crashed heavily into it.
Isabella screamed as she fell backward, only to be caught by Hayden, who had rushed in just in time.
"Hayden! Help me!" Isabella cried out, immediately bursting into tears.
The sight of them clinging to each other struck Yasmine like a knife to the heart. She closed her eyes briefly and spoke wearily, "Take her and get out."
Had Hayden complied, Yasmine might have let it slide. But the foolish man chose to escalate things.
He approached with a furious expression, grabbing Yasmine's wrist forcefully. "Do you even know what you're doing? Apologize to Isabella!"
"Apologize?" Yasmine was about to leave but turned back with a mocking look at Hayden. "You want me to apologize to her?"
"You should apologize! You stole my man!" Isabella shrieked from the hospital bed. She picked up a nearby vase and hurled it at Yasmine. "He loves me, you thief!"
The vase shattered at Yasmine's feet, sending shards flying and tearing her stockings, leaving cuts on her legs.
Unable to endure it any longer, Yasmine grabbed the internal phone by the door and called the nurses' station. "Patient in room 301 is exhibiting signs of a mental breakdown and has attacked medical staff. Immediate restraint is requested."
Hayden rushed over and slammed the phone down. "What nonsense are you spouting?!"
He grabbed her by the throat and pinned her against the wall. But before he could react, a shiny, slender pair of forceps was pressed against his jaw.
"Let go of me," Yasmine said, her breath strained but her grip on the forceps steady. "Unless you want another hole in your neck."
"How dare you!" Isabella yelled, seeing her lover threatened. She leaped from the bed but was halted by the broken glass scattered across the floor from the vase she had thrown.
Hayden's face darkened as he released Yasmine, who stared defiantly back at him.
"I may not have filed for divorce yet, but that doesn't mean I'll let you keep treating me this way."
Yasmine looked calmly and resolutely at her so-called husband.
"Take your stupid lover and get out of the hospital because if you don't... Well, just the footage of you attacking me in this room will be enough to ruin you. You'll be kicked out with nothing and become the top trending topic on New York Twitter, a laughingstock among the underworld!"
It was the first time Hayden had seen such a fierce expression on Yasmine's face, a radiant vitality that left him momentarily stunned.
But he quickly recovered, laughing angrily. "Do you really think you can do that to the heir of the Yancey family?"
He gritted his teeth. "I must have been too lenient with you, giving you the nerve to say such things!"
"Oh? Then go ahead and try," Yasmine said, pressing the sharp tool closer, and forcing Hayden to step back. "Have you seen 'Gone Girl'? When a woman is truly pushed to her limit, you can't imagine what she'll do."
Hayden's shoe crunched on the broken glass, and he slipped, falling to the ground and landing his hand on the shards.
"f**k!!" he screamed, shaking his bleeding hand. "My hand!"
Isabella panicked, rushing to his side. "Are you okay?!"
Yasmine watched coldly until several burly orderlies burst through the door.
"Which patient is it?!" the lead orderly asked urgently.
"This woman appears to be having a mental breakdown and attacked me with a vase." Yasmine pointed to her own bleeding leg. "This gentleman stepped on the glass shards and is injured. Get someone to bandage him up."
The orderlies immediately restrained the frantically struggling Isabella.
"Hey! You can't do this to her!" Hayden shouted, trying to rush at Yasmine, but another orderly held him back.
"Calm down, sir!"
Amidst the chaos, a low laugh suddenly came from the doorway. The voice was very familiar, like the luxurious sound of wine being poured into a glass.
"Heh, there's no gang causing trouble here, Willie. You've got it wrong."
Yasmine was shocked as she turned toward the door and saw Xavier leaning against the doorframe.
Behind Xavier, his henchman, Willie, quickly interjected, "My bad. I got it wrong!"
"Uncle Xavier?!" Hayden stopped awkwardly in his tracks.
"I was wondering who would dare to stir up trouble on my territory." Xavier leaned with an effortless cool with a smirk playing across his features. "Quite the scene."
Yasmine couldn't help but tremble, her lips pressed tightly together as a wave of intense shame washed over her. Not only had Xavier seen the mess of her marriage life, but her mind also flashed back to her vulnerable, naked state from the night before.
"I need to go tend to my wounds," she muttered, clutching her medical records as she quickly escaped past Xavier.
His eyes lingered on her retreating figure until she turned a corner and was out of sight.
"Uncle Xavier, that was not what you think it is..." Hayden began, but Xavier cut him off with a dismissive gesture.
Casting a glance at Hayden, he commented flatly, "I'm here to see the state senator."
And then, he quickly set off in the direction Yasmine had disappeared.
