Will You Marry Me?
Kate’s POV “Will you be my Wife, Kate?” Slow and steady was how I liked to live my life. Never rushing into things. That's why I waited five years in my office before asking for a promotion and waited two years with my boyfriend before I told him I loved him but now, here I was in my living room and everything seemed to be moving too fast. Liam, my boyfriend was on one knee in front of me, his hand outstretched with a ring in it “We've been together for two years and I know you think we need more time but I already have all the information I need. I love you Kate and I want to spend the rest of my life with you” Tears pricked at the edge of my eyes as he said the words I never thought I'd be hearing anytime soon “Will you marry me?” I froze for a second. My mind wanted to be sure this was real. It was real. Liam, the only man I had ever truly loved, was asking me to marry him. Who cared if it felt rushed. All I knew was that it felt right. “Yes. Yes I will marry you” I let out a squeal and stretched my hand to him He placed a kiss on the back of my hand before putting the ring on my finger. Our eyes met and he smiled at me, a genuine smile that always made me feel loved “Thank you” he whispered as his hands encircled my waist and pulled me into a much needed hug. I melted in his arms. I never believed in soulmates until I met Liam. Two years ago. My car had broken down in the middle of the highway and Liam helped me fix it, we exchanged numbers and just like that we clicked. He separated from the hug and held my face at arms length from him. “I love you” he whispered and before I could reply, he joined his lips with mine. I closed my eyes and let myself enjoy the feel of his lips on mine. He was going to my husband and I, his wife. I could already picture us on the altar saying our vows. Was it crazy that I already knew what my vow was going to say? My eyes fluttered open as we separated from the kiss. The beating of my heart sped up a beat as my gaze met his green eyes. He looked at me like I was the most important thing in his life. I loved how he made me feel. I didn't want it to stop. Without thinking I stepped forward, my hands moved to undo the buttons of his shirt. He threw his shirt off and pulled me closer but just as our lips were about to meet once again, the door was pushed open. *Click* The sound of a camera was the first thing we heard before the owner of the phone stepped forward. It was a woman. She had on expensive clothes that only a socialite would wear. What was she doing in my living room and why had she taken a photo? As soon as Liam saw her, he quickly picked up his shirt and a look crossed his face. Shame, Regret… Guilt? “Damien, how could you?” The woman asked as a tear fell from her eyes What the?? Damien? “I'm sorry. I can explain, this isn't what it looks like” Liam said, putting on his shirt and walking towards the woman “Why did she call you Damien? Why are you apologizing? What is happening?” my head was spinning at the sight in front of me I hoped my thoughts were wrong. This was some sick joke. This wasn't happening to me. It couldn't be. The whole room fell into silence, the woman wiped at her tears, Liam stood between us, his lips parted, shock was evident in his features. He looked like he was hiding a lot and didn't know how to say it. The ring on my finger suddenly felt heavy. “Aren't you going to tell her the truth?” the woman asked as she wiped away her tears. She wasn't crying anymore. Now she had on a vile smile as she looked between Liam and I. “What truth is she talking about?” My voice lowered. The thoughts in my head were growing louder and I needed him to say something to silence them. Liam turned to look at me, his eyes were soft as he met my confused gaze “I never wanted it to get this far. It was supposed to be a fling but I just couldn't stay away. You're…” “She's what?” The woman yelled. “Stop the bullshit and tell her that she's your side chick” “Side chick?” the word tasted bitter in my mouth “What does that mean? What does she mean? Liam talk to me” The woman rolled her eyes “His name isn't Liam. I can't believe I'm listening to this rubbish” she said in annoyance and stepped forward. “Tell her now or I'll tell her myself” He let out an annoyed sigh at the woman. Another groan left his lips before he finally spoke “My name is actually Damien Castello, this is my wife” My eyes shut and opened immediately as I took a step back. I could not believe my ears. I did not want to believe it “This is a joke right? A prank to make our engagement more memorable right?” I asked him as a tear fell from my eyes. “Engagement?” The woman yelled in anger. “Don't tell me you proposed?” “I'm so sorry, Kate” Sorry? The woman sneered, a mocking look filled her eyes as she stared at me “Don't feel special. You're just one of his many s*x toys” My jaw dropped and I looked at Liam or Damien. Waiting for him to say it was a lie. To defend me and say what we had was more than that but he said nothing. Tears gathered in my eyes and I felt my heart shatter in my chest. Was that all I was? A means of pleasure. Was everything we shared a lie? “Get out” I yelled as tears gathered in my eyes. “The two of you, Get out now!” I pointed at the door in anger “Who do you think you are to yell at me like that? Do you know who I am? Just because you're f*****g my husband doesn't give you the right to disrespect me” I could barely see as tears filled my eyes “Take your sorry excuse of a husband and leave my house. Now!” I managed to yell As the door shut behind them, I dropped to my knees, the tears that had been gathering, fell freely. Fate was so cruel to me. How could I have fallen for a married man? Why didn't I see the signs? He always wanted our dates to be in isolated areas, I thought it was because he was introverted but now I knew it was because he was hiding. How could I have been so stupid? I clutched my chest as I sank to the ground. In one day I had been my happiest and my saddest. I already saw our future together. Why would he do this to me? Why would he do this to anyone? I removed the ring on my finger and threw it across the room. It felt like my whole world had crumbled right in front of me and I couldn't pick it back up. I loved him. I really did love him. And it hurt more because I knew that I still did. ******** “s**t” I cussed as my phone alarm woke me up. I had fallen asleep on the ground in the living room. If my alarm was ringing then it meant it was morning. Oh shoot! I had a meeting concerning my promotion by 8:30am. I had to be at the office. I had already lost so much. My job was all I had left. I couldn't lose it too. I got to the office thirty minutes early which gave me some time to prepare my pitch. Just as I brought out my laptop to read my presentation. I heard a knock on my office door. My assistant, Roy walked in with a weird look on his face. He looked sorry for me. There was no way he knew what happened, it had to be something else. “What's the matter?” I asked him but he just shook his head. “The acting CEO wants to see you” “He probably just wants to make sure I'm ready for the meeting” I muttered to Roy as I stood up and headed to his office but on entering Mr Scott's office, I could tell that there was something else on his mind. “Have you seen this?” He asked as he passed his phone to me. My eyes opened wide “What the…?”
