CHAPTER 3

AVA’S POV

It’s my 16th birthday. Tonight I will be able to shift.  I just need to last until tonight. That is all I need to do. Get through today and then I will be able to leave. I just have to survive until then. I woke up in a strange room and I was on my pallet. I started to remember the things that have been happening. I looked around the room and saw Zane sitting on the couch talking with Alpha Zeek. Something was on the coffee table. I slowly started to move. Zane told me I could trust them but after what he did to me I don’t know how to trust him. I forgave him and his wolf but I don’t know how to trust that he won't keep hurting me. 

Alpha Zeek noticed I was awake first. Both of them stopped talking to look at me. I looked at the floor and didn’t say anything. I could hear one of them clear their throat. I looked up at Zane. 

“Ava, would you like breakfast. It might help you heal faster if you had some food in your system. We have donuts over here. You can come over here and eat.” Zane said. 

“What will happen if I do eat?” I asked. 

“Ava we are not like them. Yes, Zeek’s wolf is hard to control. It has been that way since he lost his mate. It won't happen again Ava. I promised not to let anyone hurt you.”

Zane was looking at me and I couldn’t tell what I saw in his eyes. I was waiting for everything to just change and for someone to get mad at me. So I slowly got up and walked over to the couches. I looked and there was only a seat next to Zane and Alpha Zeek. I chose to sit by Zane. He brings me comfort. 

“Today’s my birthday. I am gonna shift for the first time today.” I said it so quietly I didn’t expect them to hear me but then I heard both of them say Happy Birthday. I looked at them like they were weird. Zane handed me a long donut that had chocolate icing on the top and some cream filling in it. I loved it. It was really good. 

“Ava you need to eat more. You are going to shift today. You need so much energy for that.” Alpha Zeek said. I just looked down at the floor because I couldn’t look at him. 

“I can’t. This is the most I have had to eat all week. If I am lucky the pack will leave me leftovers of the food that I have cooked and even then it’s only enough to keep me barely alive so I can keep doing what they want me to.” I was still looking at the floor. “I guess I should show you.” I stood up on shaky legs and took my clothes off. I showed them my ribs. I showed them all the scars. I got dressed really fast and sat back down. “I even have my own play room. At least that is what the Beta says. I should be lucky to have my own play room and not share one.”

No one said anything then a knock was on the door. I jumped when I heard it. Alpha Zeek went to answer the door when he did. I saw he bowed to who was at the door then he was on the floor. I got up and backed up away from everyone so I wouldn’t get hit next. 

“You need to come back with me and leave your Beta incharge of your pack until I say otherwise. Is that understood, Zeek.” This unknown man had such a scary aura about him that I was shaking. 

“Yes my King.” Alpha Zeek replied. I noticed other people standing with the man. A woman and a boy my age. “Lovely to see you Queen Abbie. Prince Lee.” The next thing I know is everyone is coming into the room and looking around. 

“Where is she? Zeek. You may be my brother but I will put my duties first.” King Zeus said. I was standing in the corner trying to hide in it. I had my body turned and was hiding my face from others. 

“Ava, no one will hurt you here. It’s okay.” Zane said to me. I refuse to move. I do not want to make the king mad. He will kill me. 

“I want everyone out of this room but me and her. No one will enter this room until I say so.” I heard a soft but strong voice say. It almost sounded like an angel. 

“No. Zane do not go. They will hurt me.” I looked through my hair at everyone. Zane stepped closer to me then he started talking. 

“Ava no one is going to hurt you. You have trusted me so far. I have not let anything bad happen to you. The queen thinks it might be best for it to be just you and her.” 

“No, I don’t want to be alone with anyone. Why are they here? Haven't I been punished enough now. I don’t wanna go to the play room.”

“Ava can you at least take a seat with just me. You can sit with Zane on one couch and I'll sit on the other one. I just want to know what's going on. The Alpha and his command team are all out of the pack house. They believe we are coming and going to be crossing the border in 30 minutes so they are not here right now.” Queen Abbie said. I nodded my head and sat next to Zane. She was the only person to sit down besides us. No one moved from the doorway. “Ava can you tell me what this play room is.” 

“I can show you, my Queen.” I got up but when the younger man moved to let me by I hid behind Zane. 

“He won’t hurt you Ava. This is Prince Lee.” Queen Abbie said. “He is my son. The future king of werewolves.” 

“I am sorry your majesty.” I said as I bowed my head. “Zane what time is it?”

“It’s only around 1pm. We have time Ava. I will get you away from the party and everything before it’s time. I want you to eat one more time.” Zane replied to me. I could feel his hand on my back. As he led us out of the room. Everyone was following me. I went down the stairs and to the main floor. I went to go to my old room. I had a flashlight hidden that I used to see sometimes and it helped with everyone else. “Only one room has a light. That is the play room. I am in here almost everyday. That is my room but Zane had me bring everything up stairs.” I showed them the room and I could hear them gasp. At what they were seeing. 

“It’s this way.” I walked down the hallway some more to a room. I opened it and turned on the light. “Zane I don’t want to go in there.” 

“You don’t have to. No one is going to force you into doing this.” Everyone else went into the room and I could hear someone crying. I didn’t look.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THAT ROOM!!!!” The Alpha and Beta of my pack were walking down the hallway to us. I didn’t move. I just put my head down and sat there. I looked at the floor and didn’t speak. I couldn’t speak. I knew what would happen. No one came out of the room. No one was out here with me. I was alone with them. 

I felt the punch and heard the crack. My nose was broken again. I can’t even keep track anymore. I dropped to the ground as they started in on me. I couldn’t scream. I couldn’t move. I guess they finally smelled everyone else that was around here and they left in a hurry. I was still on the floor bleeding when they came out of the room and saw me. 

“Ava omg what happened?” I don’t know who asked but I wouldn’t speak. I knew better. I would not survive tonight. I know with me being this week I won't live. 

“I am sorry. I can’t survive my first shift like this Zane. I don’t want to. I can’t live like this anymore.”

“Get her upstairs now.”  The King said. 

“Let me do it. Something is pulling me to her. I don’t know what it is yet. Please dad.” 

“Fine Lee but be careful with her.” I felt someone pick me up. I felt things starting to go dark. 

“Stay with me Ava. You can do this. Don’t close your eyes. You have to fight.” I heard Zane saying. “Talk to us. You’ll be okay Ava. Tell me who did this to you.”

“It doesn't matter Zane. No one can stop it. Nothing will change. I will always be hurt.”

I heard someone yelling to get the pack doctor. When I tried to protest saying it won’t do any good because he doesn’t like me. That he won’t help me. I heard a female voice. 

“I am here, my King.”

“She is on the bed Nicole. Help her. Hurry. She is barely holding on.” 

I felt her probing me and she told them that I needed to be sedated since she was here. I would be fine. But she needed to find all of the bleeding. After that I couldn’t hear anything. There were no nightmares. Everything just seemed so peaceful and I was enjoying sleeping for once in my life. Until I heard something That was annoying my sleep. I could hear people whispering but I couldn’t focus on any of it. 

“Will she be able to shift tonight doc. She was born at midnight so she is supposed to shift tonight.” 

“She will be able to. I just need to check her. Luckily when she was raped she didn’t become pregnant. There are so many injuries that have been from years of abuse. Her body is covered in scars as yall have seen just a few. Bones broken that have not healed properly. I reset all the ones I could. She should be out for a few more hours. I gave her enough sedative that she should be fine for a while.” 

I started to move and tried to open my eyes to see who was talking. I started groaning and wanting to go back to bed. 

“I think you are wrong doc. She’s waking up.” I can’t tell who is talking. They are all talking so quietly that I just can’t figure out who is who. 

“She shouldn’t be. I gave her enough sedative to keep your father down for hours.” 

“Well her wolf has to be very strong. So far no command affects hers. Not even mine and I have royal blood in me.” 

When I finally opened my eyes everything was so bright that I had to close them again. 

“I don’t understand how she is awake right now?” the doctor said. 

“Because everyone is being loud. My head hurts.” When The doctor came towards me I didn’t know what to feel. I knew she was the voice I heard in the room. I looked around and I am still in the room. I did not want her near me. She could hurt me. It’s almost as if she read my mind. She put her hands up and stopped walking towards me. 

“I won’t hurt you. I promise. I just want to see how everything is healing. I fixed a lot of your bones and you had internal bleeding from things. I just want to make sure everything is healing like it should.” She said. I looked at Zane since he was the only one not to hurt me and he has protected me from others so far. I noticed that Prince Lee was standing close to me. I didn’t like him being that close to me but I couldn’t tell him what to do. 

“Ava it’s okay.” Zane said as he was walking closer to me. “I am just gonna come stand by you so you feel more comfortable with everyone here.” I saw his Alpha standing by the other end of the room then the King was closer to me but looked like he was trying to block my view. The Queen was closer to the end of the bed and Prince Lee was on the side of the bed at the foot of the bed. Zane came and stood by the head of the bed. I was waiting for the doctor to do what she needed to and as she was busy doing all of that I didn’t feel a thing. No pain. Nothing. It was strange at first. 

“Strange.” Doctor Nicole said. Everyone looked at her. 

“What’s wrong Nicole?” The Queen asked. 

“She is 100% healed. She is still malnourished but all of her injuries are healed. She still has all of the scarring but other than that there is no proof that she was ever hurt.” 

“I have always been a fast” Before I could even finish my sentence someone was hugging me. I froze. I don’t know what exactly is going on but then they are ripped from me and the King has his arms around the person. It was Prince Lee. The king has his arms crossed behind his back holding him while he is growling. I started shaking because of everything going on right now. 

“Dad let me go. I need to be closer to her. Xavier can feel her wolf coming. He won’t settle until he is near her please. I just need to be near her.” I could see he was fighting for control with his wolf. When the King saw this he was trying to get a grip on him. Prince Lee broke his hold. I could see his eyes go from a light blue to a golden color with silver. I knew it was his wolf. 

“LET GO NOW!!! I NEED HER!!!” He roared. I was so scared I was shaking.

“Not until you calm down. What is wrong with you. This girl has been through enough.” The King replied to his son. I watched as the Queen walked up to him and slapped him so hard his face went into the other direction. 

“You will not talk to us like that. You are my pup. I will not let you continue to scare that girl. Look at her. See what you are causing.” I heard her yell at him. I heard whimpering. 

“I think everyone needs to leave the room but Zane and me. I need to finish talking with her and all you are doing is making her scared. I need to know more about her medically and about her wolf. Prince Lee you need to understand that things are not always black and white. Your parents need to tell you a few things outside this room and all of you need to leave me alone while I continue to check on her. Seeing as this is why I came here.” Doctor Nicole said. I was waiting for someone to hit her for talking back like that. No one did. They all just left the room as she asked them to. 

I felt her and Zane looking at me. Zane had a glass of water and was helping me drink some of it when she spoke again. 

“Ava How long have you been healing like this?”

“As long as I can remember. I would be dead if I couldn’t heal the way that I can. Your sedative won’t work very well. My body doesn't allow anything to stay long. The first time I had wolfsbane in my food I ended up puking it all out in under a hour.” 

I saw the amazement in her eyes and was really confused as to why she is amazed at something like that. It was really hard to do because I hadn’t eaten in 4 days when they did that to me. I didn’t say anything else after that. She continued to run tests on me. 

“Ava can I draw blood for some test? I think it would be beneficial to see if we can find out more as to why you heal faster than anyone else.” Doctor Nicole said. 

“Okay.” I felt her poke around on my arm until she found the right spot. She took a bag of blood and said she was gonna go back to the royal pack to start the testing so she knows everything will go perfectly. 

“Y’all can go in there but do not upset her. She needs her rest. Make sure she starts eating. Since she will be shifting tonight she will need all the energy she can get.” With that she left. 

Everyone came back into the room and Prince Lee was standing close by to me. 

“Ava do you need anything?” He asked. I just looked at him and watched him. When he hugged me I felt safe. I looked at the covers on the bed and heard a knock on the door. 

“Alpha Zeek You need to let the w***e out now. I am sure she is tired of spreading her legs for just one man. She needs to help us do everything for the King's arrival.” 

I could hear some many people laughing behind the door. 

“I don’t think they know we are here yet. How is it an Alpha did not feel us coming into his territory.” The King said. I started shaking again and I didn’t know what else to do. I started backing up into the headboard of the bed trying to hide. Prince Lee saw me doing this and held his hands up as he came closer to me. I felt when He put his arms around me and sat next to me holding me. When the King looked back at me he saw this. 

“It’s helping both of us dad. I think she is my mate. I know what you have told me over the years. I just know it.” He was whispering. I guess he didn’t realize I could hear him still. 

“Just remember what I have told you. Most of it is true. We won’t know until tonight if the biggest piece is true though son. Zane where have you found to take her to shift.” 

They started talking about all of that as I was being held by Prince Lee. It felt so right to be in his arms. I know I have been dreaming of my mate to save me. I just know I have to leave here. I won’t stay here or in Alpha Zeek’s pack. I started to feel tired and yawned as everyone was talking around me.

“It’s okay. I’ve got you. Go to sleep you need to rest.” I heard Prince Lee whisper in my ear as I was slowly drifting to sleep in his arms. But I didn’t fall asleep for long. The beating came back and everything. I woke up screaming and fighting. 

“Daddy please no I'll behave.” I kept saying over and over again. I felt someone holding me trying to calm me down. 

“Shhh it’s okay I got you.” I couldn't tell who it was. I just knew that I had woken up. I was slowly looking around the room. Everyone was looking at me and Zane stormed over to the door and almost ripped it off its hinges. 

“Please don’t Zane.” I said in a weak voice. 

I saw as he stopped and looked at me. 

“Your own parents did this to you and you want to protect them?” Zane said. I could hear he was trying to control his anger. 

“It was not always like this. Plus I wouldn’t be any better than any of them if I did what they do to me. I wouldn’t be a better person and I would be just as bad as them.” I replied. I saw some food on the coffee table by the couches and Zane saw me looking. 

“Ava did you want something to eat?”

“Can I Zane? I will be okay while y’all eat. You can eat first. It’s okay.” 

“Ava we all have eaten already. Here let me help you come over here and eat.” 

“Zane? Where is Prince Lee.” 

“They had to go do royal duties. I am left in charge while they go play nice with everyone. Lee will be back in a little while. With everyone else.”

“Okay.”  It was just me and Zane here and I ate as much food as I could. I felt like I was gonna be sick with all the food I ate. “Can I go back to sleep?”

“Of course Ava. You are more than welcome to go back to sleep.”
