Chapter 10 His Arrival
Jay's Thoughts
When I finish hiring my remodel team for the new project in New Hampshire I am pleased with the architects proposals and plans. The home is old was built in 1808 by Sea Captain Joseph Rutherford located in a quaint and tiny village is Salisbury Heights.
It is a simple kind of home a two story seven bedroom Victorian home. I can really feel the 1800s scenery of the land that I also bought. The smell of the greenery just calms my nerves. The house needs a lot of work, but I am pretty confident my contractors won't let me down. When I return in a couple of weeks most of everything should be done.
I get a text from a Harry Hellinger about a location I desperately wanted.
'Jay 7989 Algonquin St. lowered the price by three million. I think you should jump on it.'
I am almost to my hotel.. I still remember when I negotiated the price down on that New Hampshire home and my employees must have that same mindset. If not, then they cannot work for me. . I text back 'Okay great send me the details'.
I am also looking into a property in North Carolina but we will see about that. When I walk into the lobby everyone are doing their jobs. They all seem to want to talk to me, but I sense the fear I have instilled into these people. I would rather be feared than friendly, so many possibilities open up when you become friends with someone.
I step into my elevator and press on my pin house button and I enjoy Cat Scratch Fever by Ted Nugent on the elevator radio. It's about eleven thirty and I don't expect anyone to be in my space. Right when the doors open I automatically know someone is here. I walk into my kitchen and living areas and empty.
I head down the hall to my office and I see the light on. Is she really still at work? I answer my own question when I walk in and see her asleep on my desk. I look at the computer screen and it looks like she was entering the last of my financials.
I look at her as she sleeps and I couldn't help feeling something toward her. She is a strong woman that seems like she has put up with a lot. I get a flash of a six foot one heavy set man punching her in the face.
I come back to reality and wonder what just happened. I usually only have flashes of Justina and our lives together. Even my younger years are a blur. My thoughts are interrupted by her waking up. She wipes her mouth and her face is priceless. She looks like a five year old that just got caught taking cookies from the cookie jar. My heart starts to melt even more.
She finally recollects herself and says "My apologies Sir. I am on this past year for your financials and taxes. I started from the very beginning all the way back to 1995. Your finances were doing fine until.."
I stop her from speaking by holding up my hand and saying "Susana it is almost twelve.. Do you not have a life outside this place?" She looks down and I see a splash of blush on her cheeks and replies "Sir I only want to be utilized in work right now in my life.." She looks down and I couldn't stop myself from asking "So what brought you here in the first place. Not a lot of people come here to live, they usually come to vacate their daily lives and relax. But not to live. There are about a county population count of five to six hundred. What is your story? I am very intrigued."
Her face falls from smiling to a vulnerable state to masking her secrets and pain. I know that emotion all to well. She sits down on my love seat and begins "Well growing up was tough and my early adult years aren't that great either. But one thing I know and have known for a while is I enjoy working. It takes me somewhere else for long while. Other than that I love to imagine being in one of my books or losing myself in a song." She stops talking as if she feels she has said to much.
I sit on my leather comforter chair and say "Proceed Ms. Perez, I know it is late and your probably still on the clock but I would like to discuss these things." Now she looks like she is offended and replies with an strong willed attitude "Mr. Johnson I believe you are right it is pretty late..." She looks at her watchless wrist and continues "Yea it is about two. I must bid you a due kind sir..." She gets up and starts for the door to exit my office.
Just as I was about to talk to her about her tone she turns around when she gets to my mahogany wood door and says with even more attitude "One more thing Mr. Johnson I clocked out at eight pm. I haven't been on the clock for the last five hours. Trust me with how your finances were I needed to stay and get it done or I know I wouldn't of slept for the night, because I know how my mind works. I will be here in a few hours and I would appreciate it if you kept it professional from this point forward."
Before I could retort she opens my door and walks out and shuts the door. I get up but before I could get to her she was already in the elevator looking down. I wonder why she looks down like she is ashamed of herself? The doors shut and that was the end of that. The only woman that could handle me like that is in heaven probably shaking her head at me right now.
I get a vision of Justina
I am in our garden we built together. From the very first seed to the very last we had planted them together. The flowers we planted grew, but other plants we couldn't identify also grew. It was just a mixture of pink, purple and red colors.
Justina is walking toward my back and I have no idea she is there. I am looking up into the sky because I know this is just one of the "Flashes" as Dr. Godfrey calls them happening. It hurts so much to have to relive these memories. How many times can I beat myself up over Justinas death? I loved her with my all and now my all is dead. How could I begin again? Ms. Perez is just as feisty has Justina was and I believe I have a knack for strong willed women.
Justina hugs me from behind and asks "Hey honey. What are you looking at?" She also looks into the sky as if she is actually there with me. My head snaps to her beautiful pale face, and I look at her. When our eyes connect is when I come back to reality.
I look at the clock and it is about to be two in the morning. I decide to put all of this to the side I need my rest if I am going to go over the numbers she figured. I really can't wait until I trust her enough to do this. I have been screwed over to many times in the past. She actually left me speechless and I'm starting to think Ms. Perez reminds me of Justina. That is my attraction to her...
I finally decide to take my jet to North Carolina to look at that house. I will leave her the property details and leave some things out and see how smart she really is. I called my pilot and let him know we are leaving in the next thirty minutes.
He replies "Yes sir I will be there in five. Over and out and hangs up." He is an old buddy from college that made a big impression on me. That is for another time, but I put all the necessary paperwork and websites and I grab another out of town bags and leave.
I send a text to Ms. Perez 'Leaving for North Carolina for a few days. I left some work for you to do on my desk.' I put my phone in my bag and I am out of there. Maybe I couldn't stay here because this place reminded me of my sorrow for Justina. Or was it Ms. Perez.. I really don't want to find out right now.
