It was a little after five by the time I made it home. I brought my backpack up to my bedroom and started doing my homework.
“Knock, knock.”
I looked up and saw Grandma Rae standing in my doorway, smiling.
I grinned back from the bed. “Oh, hi. I didn’t hear you come home.”
She stepped inside. “I just got here. How was your day?”
“Good.” I pulled myself up into a sitting position.
“Are you hungry?”
“No. I actually grabbed a bite to eat at Herschel’s after school.”
“Oh, that’s nice. Did you go with Kara and the other girls?”
“No. I went with this guy, Jason.”
Her eyebrow raised. “Jason? Sounds intriguing. Are you two just friends or was this a date?”
“Just friends. He has a girlfriend.”
“Oh, okay. Does Jason have a last name?”
“Sharkey.”
