Being sure

1458 Words
Rose After dropping off Joey at school, I pass through the training grounds and I see that Jolene is already training with the females. The males all have eyes on her. Her appearance is more stunning than ever. Her cheeks look full and her hair is shining brighter. Her curves are defined with a slim figure. She has the perfect height of 5’8 too. “She is so beautiful,” one of the males says. “If only I could be her mate or she could be our Luna. It can be wonderful having such a beautiful Luna,” one of them jokes. I know Benson has heard him, and all he does is laugh it off. He has changed so quickly. Barely a month of Jolene being here, and she already has him in her clutches. “Alpha, where did you find this beautiful lady? She is so strong and hardworking,” one of the warriors asks, and I await his answer. “She is the Luna’s sister.” “Sister, are you sure? But the Luna is…” The warrior trails off, then laughs. “You don’t have to insult our Luna in that way. You have fifty extra push-ups to do.” The beta of the pack defends me, and for once I feel better. “But we all know it’s the truth,” the wolf tries to defend himself, but the beta is having none of it. He gives up with a sigh and goes to do the push-ups. “You all have to respect your Luna.” The beta’s voice booms across the training field, and I am at least proud that one of them still stands for me. Even in my previous life, the beta never stopped supporting me. He was so loyal that Jolene found a way of making him lose his position. Everyone looks away and gets busy with training. Even Benson looks a little guilty before a commotion breaks the silence. Jolene is on the ground, grabbing her foot and whimpering. Benson crosses the field at such insane speed that he is by her side in a minute. He crouches on the ground and grabs her foot. “I twisted it while training.” She squints her eyes and a tear rolls out. Benson glares at her training partner. “She just joined the training sessions today, and you are already harsh on her. Join your friend in the punishment.” She looks shocked. “But Alpha…” Benson growls, “Leave before I twist your ankle too.” The girl shakes her head and runs off. Benson lifts Jolene and takes her to the bench. “Call the pack doctor right now,” he says, panicking over her in a way that I have never seen him panic. “The doctors will be here soon. But first, let me get you inside the house.” He lifts her up, and she circles her hands around his neck. Everyone is watching the scene with the same expression that I have—shock at what’s happening. I scoff and hide before he can see that I was watching. I busy myself for the rest of the day placing tiny cameras all around the pack house, including every room, making sure they are well hidden and I can watch everything. The preparations for the meeting serve as a disguise. The members have made great progress toward the preparations. I ran up and down before, trying to make sure everything was perfect, not anymore. When I am finally back inside the pack house, I find Jolene sitting on the couch comfortably. She stands up and limps my way, leaning more on her right foot. “I was looking for you,” she says, and I raise an eyebrow. “The doctor checked my leg, and Alpha Benson said you would provide an ice pack for me,” she says, sounding so sweet that you wouldn’t think there is a devil hiding behind that mask, and sadly my mate has been deceived too. “There are plenty of maids in the pack who can help you with that. It’s not like you are some special guest or something,” I answer her, and she gasps. In my previous life, I was naive and did her bidding such that she took advantage of me. I can’t allow that in this one. She moves closer to me, grabs my hands, and slaps her face with it, then falls back violently. I watch the scene in shock, as she never did this previously, and Benson, whom I had not even seen, runs here so fast that he bumps into me and I end up falling on the floor. “Are you hurt?” he asks her with the softest voice I have ever heard him use. She shakes her head. Benson turns to face me with a harsh glare. “Can’t you see that your sister twisted her ankle? Why do you have to be so heartless and hurt her? You have to apologize,” he growls at me, and I maintain a straight face. “You shouldn’t blame my sister. I was only telling her that you said she should give me an ice pack, and she got upset. I didn’t mean to upset her.” She is so great at this game where she always wants to be the victim and act as though she is soft. Benson helps her up, and she leans into him. I watch the two and scoff. Some of the events don’t add up as before. Small things have changed, and this time things are happening a bit faster than before. “I didn’t do anything to her, so I won’t be apologizing.” I finally speak after having been silent for a long time. “But I saw with my own eyes. You slapped her,” Benson growls once more. “Just how heartless can you be, Rose? I didn’t know you to be this type of person.” “I don’t have the strength to push her, remember?” I shrug. He thinks of me as weak after all. “Is that why you are pushing her around while she is at her lowest?” Benson’s question leaves me dumbfounded. “Just apologize to your sister.” “She doesn’t have to apologize if she doesn’t want to,” Jolene says, blinking and puffing up her eyes. She does this to seduce men, and I see that it always works. I sigh and turn around, but Benson grabs my hand. The sparks of our bond fly, and he pauses for a moment. I watch his face, and he watches mine before he growls the words once more. Joey rushes between us. “Don’t force mummy. Aunty Jolene is lying for mummy!” he screams, and my heart melts. My son is the best thing I have in this world. “Don’t support her wrongdoing, Joey. If mummy is wrong, then she should apologize,” he insists. “You know what, f**k it. Jolene, I am sorry I slapped your face.” “You don’t have to apologize, really, but it means a lot to me.” What a fake b***h. She may have won this round, but she doesn’t know what’s coming to her soon. I lift Joey off the floor and place him on my hip before I walk away. “Where are you going?” my mate asks, and I roll my eyes. “To take a walk.” “We can go together then…” I interject, “Don’t you have to accompany Jolene or something?” I ask, sounding irritated. “What does Jolene have to do with anything?” he asks, and I laugh. “I don’t know. You tell me, because you have been very close lately.” I raise an eyebrow as I fold my hands over my chest. “It’s not anything you think it is. I just want all pack members to be treated equally, regardless of who they are,” he says, and I scoff. Does he seriously think I am a child in kindergarten that he can easily lie to? Even Joey can’t accept his lies. “Okay, if that’s the case, you can go and take care of her.” In my previous life, I begged him to stay with me, be with me, but all I got in the end was betrayal and killing. “You are just doing this to get my attention.” If I wasn’t sure about it then, I am sure about it now. The other thing on my plan is to break this bond, no matter what it takes.
