6 Since Beattie and I weren’t going to be able to get further into the Highlands, after all, we decided we’d at least drive out to Eilean Donan, as the inspector had suggested, before heading back to Inverness. We decided to go ahead and make the trip that afternoon so that we could watch the sunset over the castle as one of our guidebooks suggested. The drive out was beautiful, and once again, I found myself feeling right at home and thought it might be worth my while to dig into my family genealogy a bit to see if I had Scottish roots. In every way, this landscape felt like coming home, partially, I knew, because it reminded me a bit of the rolling hills of Virginia but also because of a wildness that just felt right and good in my soul.
