His family

Lyra's POV: The drive was long. That was one thing I was not prepared for as I sat there, listening to my husband's loud snores as he rested on the chair, mouth wide open, spittle pooling at the neck region of his tie. Somehow, I wanted the journey to go on forever, perhaps longer than it should, anything to stop me from entering his house, anything that might stop me from stepping into my uncertain future. When we finally pulled into his pack, the disappointment rested heavy on my chest as I knew the journey was slowly coming to an end. The pack house stood tall in the midst of the other small houses, and my husband woke up with a jolt, looking at me with surprise in his eyes before finally remembering who I was, and that surprise was replaced with disgust. "Do I have to tell you to get down too? This is what your father was saying, about you being so slow. I hate women who can't think on their feet" he said, his voice gruff as he wiped off the spittle, looking for his shoe that he had carelessly taken off immediately we got into the car. I jumped out of the car as though it had just caught on fire by his words. I could not start the day by annoying him. Not when I just got here. " Father! Oh, you are back. I was beginning to think I wouldn't see you at all this week"a girl about my age said, running out of the house and throwing her hands around the man. I swallowed. Was she supposed to be my daughter? Was this some kind of joke that the moon goddess was playing on me? He laughed heartily as he gave her a small kiss on her head. "I had to cut it all short because I knew you would be dying to see me already. Where is your brother? There is someone I would like both of you to meet", he said as he motioned to me to follow him. Just like her father, she gave me a look of disgust, perhaps surprised at how shabby I looked. I could not blame her. Even though it was my best gown, it already had a hole in numerous places and looked like it would fall apart the very moment someone tugged at it too hard. A tall and dashing man came out, his hair tousled as he looked at my new husband. " Dad..you came back earlier than expected. I was just about to go out with the troops to inspect the borders", the man said. He looked nothing like his father, tall, handsome and well-built, except for his wicked smirk that seemed to be second nature to him. His eyes turned to look at me, roaming my body as though accessing who I might be. " Step forward" alpha Trent said, and it took me a good second to realize that he was talking to me. Hurriedly, I took a step forward, looking at the soles of my torn shoes. " These are my twin children, Andriane and Andre. You have to respect them but also help them get used to you as their stepmother" he said, and I saw the shock coat the eyes of the children. This would not be good. " Wait dad what? You brought this...trash to act like our mother? When our mother is still very much alive? Why would you even want to marry this good for nothing bone bag?" The girl, Andriane said, as though I was not standing right in front of them. I swallowed, taking the blow of each word as I looked down at my fingers. " Hush now dear child, how many times do I have to tell you that I don't respect you questioning my decision? Get her a maid that will clean her up and take her out of those rags. And also get your mother for me. I want both of them to meet formally", Alpha Trent said. " She does not need to get me, I can already see what is going on." A woman said, coming out of what I assumed to be the living room. I gulped even harder. She was stunning even in her old age. I knew this would be a struggle. Why would he even bother getting married to me if he already had a mate? He did not even seem fazed by her presence, no word of remorse whatsoever as he looked at her. " Oh good that you are here. I wanted you to meet her first, but your children beat me to it. She is my new wife and I want you to get her cleaned up and prepared for my chambers now", he said. " Well, your children asked you a question, but you did not seem fit to answer. Why did you take a new wife while I'm still alive?" She asked. Alpha Trent walked closer to her, his eyes blazing, and for a brief moment, I was so sure that he was about to hit her. " Don't test my patience, woman. You should know better than these children that I would never be questioned. Do what I asked you to do or else you might actually get yourself in big trouble" he said. And with that, he turned around, leaving me with his family, who I knew hated me to the bone. The son glared at me, his eyes still roaming my body and the girl snarled. " What did father see in such an ugly thing as you? You just got here, and you are already making my parents fight? You stupid slut" she yelled, giving me a fiery gaze that threatened to burn me down anytime soon. They’ve sharpened their knives, and living here was never going to be easy.
