Chapter 1 - A never ending dream
"Beautiful..." exhaled Sana as her eyes were fixated on the silky, smooth collusion of the sky that burst into mixed colors of red and yellow with the calm night breeze. It was as though her first sight of a sunset for a very long time. Her eyes shimmered as her thoughts were washed away, along with the sound of the waves crashing into the shore. Minutes later of wandering in her thoughts, she found herself walking the warm, soft sand barefooted-every step she took left footprints that were immediately washed away by the waves. The overwhelming coolness and freshness made Sana feel easy and relaxed. She felt the heavenly serenity that made her want to fly from the ground until she reaches the endless golden cloudless sky.
222, 223, 224- halted Sana from counting her footsteps when she heard a sound so comforting. Its harmony was like lullabies that made her feel like she was floating in delicate feelings. Sana lifted her head and saw a woman sitting at the huge, shining black instrument as her fingers flew gracefully over the keys of black and white, not playing but caressing the piano-coaxing impossibly soothing and heavenly melodies from it. Her dark silky hair tousled by the wind-her knee-length white dress that seemed to dance with the gentle wind full of the scent of sweet aroma. The woman was sparkling in elegance and charm in Sana's chestnut eyes filled with admiration. Finally, the pale-petite-dark-haired girl looked up and smiled at her, making her heart leaped out of her chest.
"A dream... again..." said Sana in a quiet, husky voice as she woke up from the sound of her alarm. She stretched her arm to the far right and turned it off. The ceiling she stared, to try to remember the dream she has been dreaming of for days. However, only the smile plastered on the woman's angelic face was all she could recall. Her head was full of most likely questions that would be left unanswered. First of the many was, who was that woman?
Nonetheless, Sana went on with her everyday living: wake up, get ready, and go to work. As a 24-year-old adult who is already successful than any other of her age, all she is left to do is live life to the fullest. Yet, Sana decided to spend most of it in her office, managing the company that soon will be her own.
"Deep thoughts right there," a woman of her age said and strutted her way towards Sana's table.
"Oh, Momo, is there something I can do for you?"
The short-black-haired woman handed a white folder to Sana. "As usual, signatures," said Momo with an exhausted, low voice. Sana made a small chuckle before continuing to check the papers and left her signature. It was about 10 pages with the details all about the proposed projects for their company. Afterward, Momo took the folder for once and strode her way out towards the two large doors of Sana's office. But before she could grab the knob, "Hey," that caught the attention of Sana, "I'm kind of worried about you, you know. It's been years since your last vacation. Maybe you might as well consider taking a break. Take a deep breath somewhere nice or maybe on a beach. I want you to take care of yourself, okay?" Worry was evident in Momo's voice, and Sana felt it but only showed a faint smile as her response to Momo.
Before Momo could leave, Sana unexpectedly asked a question out of nowhere. "Have you ever experienced falling in love with a stranger in your dreams?" she asked seriously. On the other hand, Momo had a blank look, lines forming between the eyebrows in confusion. Finally, she shook her head in denial, repeating "No," and no other words came out from her open mouth again. She obviously was weirded out by Sana because she immediately left afterward.
"Wai-," said Sana, who was left out alone in her office. What did I say? Is it really that weird? she thought and relaxed her body on the leather swiveling chair. Sana stared at the void, and the woman once again crossed her mind. She couldn't stop thinking of the beautiful smile of someone she hasn't met yet. The chaos in both in her chest and mind. She doesn't want this madness, pure madness for falling in love with someone in a dream. She deeply sighed and swiveled the chair to the opposite side, and the city of Tokyo, Japan, beheld from the 50th floor of their building.
As Sana adored the picturesque view of Tokyo, she once wonders again who that person was and why her heart flirters every time it crosses her thoughts. She couldn't understand what she was feeling. She couldn't understand why it is affecting her so much. She couldn't decipher why the same dream keeps coming back and why her heart feels connected to the woman. Her mind was all over the place that caused a mild headache.
Days after so much thinking about whether to listen to the advice of Momo or not, she decided that maybe, just maybe, a break from the stressful work would stop the dream from coming back and so she could focus on work. Sana thought maybe the dream was a sign of giving herself some refreshment and go somewhere nobody knows her. And so, she booked a flight to Jeju, South Korea, in hopes of loosening herself to be able to focus on work when she goes back.
