Antonio Romano’s POV
I flew out to Hungary as I was planning to make my revenge much sweeter if I was to play it right. I wanted Christina to suffer. I wanted her to get angry and maybe rebel a bit. But, with the latest news that I got from her bodyguard, she was out cold.
My sweet, feisty Christina.
I don’t know what changed. Maybe the fact that I don’t remember her and our promise or the fact that I was not fast enough to get her to tie up to me. I was an i***t! I should have done that when I was at my mother’s house.
“Sir, we will be landing in 15 minutes,” the pilot stated on the speaker as I was fastening my seatbelt. I remembered the time that we went to Romania and how Christina had checked me out. She thought I didn’t notice but I did.
I noticed everything but not her.
We landed and I was getting ready to meet with the King of Hungary. It has been 5 years since I asked for his approval to get out of this country and now, I am back. On top of that, I asked my father to do something for me.
Talking about change. It was all for one little clumsy PA.
I sighed, but I smiled at that sigh. I know it will be worth it and I think I might enjoy this even more than I should. I got off the plane as I saw the familiar stance that was at the end of the stairs.
“Agent Romano,”
“Commander Romano,” I said as I greeted him with a handshake. He seemed old. His hair was salt and pepper and I think the dark circles were getting bigger and bigger under his eyes.
“The King has made an exception to meet you,” he stated.
“Was it hard, Commander?”
“Nothing that I can’t pull off. I said it was my son and he immediately agreed,” he grunted, as if he disapproved that I was being the king’s favorite. I smirked.
“Is that so?” I asked him as he was opening the door for me. He grunted as he was looking at me sternly.
“He asked me to get you to the castle immediately when you landed,” he said before I got in and he closed the door. He went to the car that was in front of my car and got in. Then, we went off to the castle.
The streets were as I remembered them. It was pristine and nice as I would run around here when I was doing my rounds. I smiled at the memory before I saw the enormous castle that stood in the distance.
My heart was beating loudly as I wanted to make sure that I would not get nervous. I needed to walk this plan through if I wanted Christina in my hand. And I have the perfect plan of revenge for it.
“We’re here, sir,” the driver said as he got out and he opened the door for me. I got out as my father was walking toward me. His scowl was there before he gestured to me to get inside the house.
“Remember your manners. Do not speak unless spoken to,” he whispered to me as we went inside the castle and we were standing in front of the double door that held the throne room inside.
“Go on and remember your manners,” my dad said before I went inside, as the guards opened the door and the King was on his throne. I gulped.
Nothing goes there.
Peter Rovski’s POV
The little boy that I used to look at whenever Ronaldo was playing with him and his wife. They were a happy family until I broke them up. Ronaldo divorced his wife to protect him from the heartbreak and he forced his son to be in the service.
I knew what I had to do to make it right.
I have been planning this ever since I saw my bundle of joy in my arms when Antonio was only 2 years old. They will be perfect for each other as I know the warmth in Antonio’s eyes when he looked at Christine when she was only a babe.
He wanted her and had claimed her as his when he was 2 years old.
A father has an instinct about who would be the perfect guy for his daughter and, for Christine, that would be Antonio. She thought I didn’t know that she was out of the country, in search of Antonio Romano. I let her explore it with my trusted spy beside her. She never knew that she was being watched every step of the way.
Now, I have to get Antonio to be on the same side as me. I think he might like the plan that I have laid out for him and my daughter.
“Antonio, it’s nice to see you after 5 years. You look great,” I said as he bowed to me.
“Thank you, Your Highness. But we have to put off the informalities for now as I have something to discuss with you,” he said sternly, as his caramel orbs were glistening with determination. I chuckled at his seriousness.
“And what is that, Romano?” I called his last name as he stiffed. He knew that I was being serious right now because I would never address anyone with their last names unless I meant business.
And this time, it was business indeed.
I have been waiting for him to come back to Hungary so that he would be willing to marry Christine on his own accord, not mine, not his father, and not Christine. She was too rebellious to get anything done in her favor.
“I wanted to marry Princess Christine of Hungary,” he said boldly as he was looking straight into my eyes. They were the same as his father’s but his hair was his mother’s. The perfect combination of true love and I think he would give that to my daughter as I have failed to do so.
“And why would I agree to that term?” I asked, as I was trying to play with his mind. He needed to be strong if he wanted to be in this game. He needed to know how to strategize and play with politics.
I know he would win if only he was willing enough to do it.
“Because I have something that you would not resist taking. Me. I’m the greatest spy in the service and I was the person that saved your daughter 5 years ago. You will always be in debt with me for her life. I think it was only fitting to get that very life into the care of mine,” he said as he was keeping a calm, collected face.
I smiled at his answer.
“And if you failed to persuade the princess to take you as her husband?” I asked him, as I knew Christine was over the head with him. He was charming and kind. No one fell in love with that.
“Trust me, she would agree,” he replied with a smirk.
“You’re that confident?”
“I know so, Your Highness, if you would let me do it as I planned it,” Antonio said as he was smiling with his eyes twinkling with mischief.
“Oh my, what do you have in store for her?”
“Well, if I could lend your ears, then you might know what it was,” Antonio said before I nodded at him. He smiled and spoke of this plan of his.
“Hmm, that was unexpected,” I commented after I heard the whole story.
“Trust me, she would love it,” he said confidently. I smiled at him.
“I hope so, son. I hope so,” I said before Antonio nodded at me as he excused himself and I was getting ready to meet Christine.
Time for the plan to be set into motion.
Christine Rovski’s POV
I was reading some books about information about a pandemic that has been broken in the past. It was an eye-opening text actually, and I think it was nice additional information for my brain. A knock interrupted me as I was sitting on the sofa upside down with my feet in the air and I was not being ladylike at all.
“Come in,” I said, as I don’t care about what the servants think of my position right now.
“Well, that was no position for a lady to sit in,” a familiar voice that I had only heard in my childhood was greeting my eardrums. I looked up from the book that I was reading as I saw my father walking around the library, hanging off like a bat.
“Your Majesty,” I said as I went to sit right up before I was smoothing my skirt and curtsied at him. It was unexpected, as I thought it was just some servants that were coming to get me for lunch.
“How are you, Christine?” He asked as he was looking at me, with his hands behind his back. A stance fitted for a king.
“I have been good, sire.”
“I heard that you just got back yesterday. I wonder where you have been?” He asked as he was looking at me. I turned to look into his eyes. He knew what I had been up to. I sighed.
“You know very well what I did in the past few weeks before I am here again,” I said as I was trying to control myself to snap at my father. If he was one, to begin with.
“Hmm,” he replied before he went to look at the books. I have everything to accompany me for my free time, if not for a certain pen pal that I met online.
“Well, I have come to hear news from you,” he said, because I was expecting him to drop the bomb already.
“Sire?” I asked as he was eyeing me up and down. He sighed as he was clearing his throat.
“You will be getting married as I have chosen the candidate. There will be a ball for you to attend tomorrow night and I expected you to be on your best behavior,” he said as I turned sharply at him.
“What?”
“No objection. You have come of age and there was a suitor that was willing to take you in even though he knew that you were—“ he said as he was pointing to all of me.
“This,” he said. I scoffed at him as I was narrowing my eyes at him.
We’ll see about that, father. I will rebel until the last breath I have if that means you are arranging me into a marriage that I don’t want.
“Fine,” I said calmly as an idea was forming inside my head.
“But on one condition,” I said as he was arching his eyebrows at me.
“I want Antonio Romano to fix me for the ball,” I said as I was smirking at him. King Peter was keeping a stoic face before he nodded.
“So, be it. I hope you will be a delicate flower for your groom with his expertise,” he said as he was going to the door. I smirked at him as he closed the door behind him, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
“Oh, I will make the most of it, father,” I said as I was looking at the night sky. I will marry this person, but not before I get what I wanted.
And that was Antonio Romano.
