The room suddenly moving a million miles an hour, I could not even track Caleb’s movements as they were so fast. Finding myself sitting in my office chair, Caleb stood before me as his bulky build remained close shielding me from the doorway and Ethan’s view. A growl rippling through Caleb’s throat in sheer anger and irritation, I rushed covering myself and righting my clothes from our encounter. Ethan’s footsteps stomping forward, Caleb stayed in place holding his ground. Standing up from the chair, I needed to stop this before it escalated out of control. An incident like this was completely unprecedented, it could start a war between the packs. Though for once I held zero concern for Ethan as Caleb’s welfare filled my mind.
My eyes on Caleb’s back slightly putting my unease to rest, he had muscle upon muscle upon muscle. No doubt an active Alpha and a hard trainer, Caleb did not seem the type to back down nor have someone else fight his battles. Flinching as Caleb turned on me the second I rose from the chair, I was surprised to find his body was somehow already covered. Or at least the critical point between his legs was. With a speed like lightening, I could not believe how quick he could move righting and protecting me before a thought or response could even form in my mind. Finding myself pulled tight to the back of his body as if under his protection, Caleb turned back on Ethan who appeared to jump in what I could only describe as fear. Unsure what to do, and unable to even move an inch within Caleb one handed grasp, I held steady waiting to see how this was going to unfold.
Ethan taking bold steps forward, he was doing what he always did in complete stupidity as his voice sounded aggressively. “Sophie!” He was relying on his natural strength as an Alpha, and under normal circumstances with the occasional wolf out of line in the pack, that would suffice. But with Caleb… Caleb was an Alpha in his own right. He also had natural strength. If Ethan had any awareness, he would feel what I could, power almost pulsing from Caleb’s body. My eyes widening at a sound, I peeked around Caleb’s ever heating body finding his hand securely around Ethan throat. Slowly lifting Ethan from the floor into the air, Ethan began to sputter and struggle in disbelief as his eyes all but popped right out of their sockets.
“She is mine, do you understand?” Caleb’s voice beyond calm, I could hear a slight air of what I could only assume was humour to his tone as he focused in on Ethan who was still dangling above the ground gripping and clawing at Caleb’s hand. An almost smile moving to my emotionless face, being claimed felt better than I had ever imagined. Seeming like a child, Ethan growled like a cub while continuing to choke. My heart stirring in my chest silently seeing Ethan put in his place, I still did half expect someone to come to his rescue.
Wolves never far behind Ethan, he was right about one thing, together wolves were stronger than one alone. Intimidation and force of others used to further his status, he never gained real power or reached his full potential himself. Riding on the coattails of others, myself included, I still never thought of Ethan as weak. Never thought it was overly necessary for him to train, not till now. And even then, in this case, it would hardly have made a difference anyway, Caleb was barely flexing a muscle. He had the power to protect himself and his pack, he was no doubt how the pack reached their high status and strength that they were renowned for.
Emphasising his point, Caleb repeated his question appearing completely unphased with Ethan’s ongoing struggling and gasping for air beneath his hold. “I said do you understand?”
Ethan’s face beginning to turn blue, I extended my hand to Caleb’s arm touching it softly. My voice escaping shrilly, I knew I should not have got involved. “Put him down.” For the first time in my life I was the one being respected, I was the one being protected. I had my real mate right before me, a mate I had already marked, and he had marked me, and yet I still could not help but yell out to protect Ethan. Old habits die hard I guess.
“Yes.” The word like a gasp of air boxing its way up Caleb’s throat, I felt like my heart was bottoming out of my chest. Did he just agree? Caleb’s hand releasing Ethan, he dropped to the floor like a brick. Recovering quickly holding and rubbing at his throat, Ethan stumbled to his feet as he backed up a few steps watching Caleb with clear caution widening his eyes.
“Ethan!” Kate’s voice ringing through the air, she remained half dressed almost tripping through the door gripping at his arm. Kate’s eyes enlarging like she had just found a large meal, they trailed over Caleb as her tongue ever so slightly licked at her lips. Her hands almost instantly falling away from Ethan, Caleb suddenly jerked me in front of him. As if using me as a repellent against Kate, he held me close right up against his body where I could still feel his hardened c**k pressing into my lower back.
