Chapter 5 -Seduced the first, but not the second

An almost growl escaping me before I even had time to consider my reaction, Kate froze in place as I did myself. The sheer threat in the sound shocking myself, her eyes shot to my own with what I could only describe as fear. Never once had I ever looked, felt, or even aimed any aggression at her and yet… there I was like a rabid dog claiming my territory. The sound louder then I expected, I could even feel Ethan’s eyes as they brightened in the corner of my view. A positive emotion of almost pride dripping through the newly formed bond, my heartbeat strengthened at Caleb’s support.

Kate slightly shaking, she looked to Ethan once more as her jawline jumped with unease as if trying to force Ethan into action at my behaviour. Ethan shoving Kate back towards the door, he began taking deep even breaths as his eyes focused in on my own with an almost air of disgust lacing his expression. Betrayal clear behind his gaze, Ethan was the last person I ever expected to look at me in such a way. Doing almost everything, I ran this pack giving him the credit and freedoms he wanted. I never complained or came between him and his conquests. I never even refused when he used me for his own pleasure.

Caleb jumping in as his hands continued to hold and work their way across my body as if he could not wait another second to explore. “My new mate and I shall take our leave to get some rest Alpha Ethan. We can discuss the particulars of our cooperation at a later time. It has been a somewhat strenuous journey.” Ethan’s eyes growing brighter by the second as he stared at me, I silently willed him to keep his mouth shut as I looked away and up at Caleb’s unwavering expression.

My body guided forward, Caleb moved himself so that he was between Ethan and I, as Ethan began shuffling on the spot with visibly growing irritation. The words like gunshots shooting from his lips. “Sophie is my Luna!”

Like all the air had left the room in an instant, my body was pulled behind Caleb’s entirely as he clung to my wrist with so much strength I thought it would break from the pressure. His snarl driving Kate to a sharp scream, I was almost happy I could not see his face as his voice even cut fear into my heart as power radiated from him stronger than I had ever felt from a wolf before. “Not anymore! Talk about my mate like that again, and your pack will suffer the consequences of your loose tongue.” Caleb’s body swiftly stepping toward Ethan, I could not see, but heard a sudden kafuffle as if Ethan had hit something or tripped over at the motion like he had been frightened backwards.

Swallowing audibly, I had no idea how to react. Hearing rumours about Caleb’s temper, it was concerning and yet… Nobody had ever stood up for me like that, never protected me with their body or held me in such an intimate manner. The knowledge that he felt so strongly filling me up, I was almost excited by it. Ushered forward with a little force toward the door, Caleb’s voice took an immediate change in tone as he softly pulled my wrist into his view. “I apologize, I did not expect my grip to be so strong. I didn’t hurt you, did I?”

Caleb’s body coming even closer against my own, he moved his arm around me. Shaking my head softly, I remained silent at his side. Following his lead, we left the office as any concerns I had seemed to melt away. Not even bothering to look back, I did not hear another word from Ethan as we left. Almost waiting for a ton of bricks to drop upon me, nothing happened, Ethan’s connection was gone, completely gone. A small flicker of a smile tilting my lips, I was really free.

Alex quietly waiting for us nearing the end of the hall, his head bowed as always in respect to me. For the first time seeing the slightest smile on his face. “I have escorted the rest of Alpha Grayson’s wolves to the accommodations. I am sure you need no escort Luna, Alpha.”

“Thank you, Alex.” Able to hear and see the affection and happiness Alex held for me in that moment, I could not help but feel gratitude toward him. Alex was a good man, always there for me, he never made me feel weak or undermined. Always caring more then he should have, Alex was on my side. Always treating me with respect and devotion, he was my only trusted ally in the pack, the only one. Feeling a slight annoyance from Caleb, I was more than pleased to see him endure our relationship feeling through the bond just how much I valued Alex.

Not standing idle for a single moment after guiding Caleb into his… our accommodations, I do not know why, but I expected us to talk. Expected that he would want to hear about the pack he was going to work with, the ins and outs, the issues and weaknesses, but I was wrong… so very, very wrong. Lips on my own in an instant, Caleb asked nothing only watching and concentrating on me. His eyes lighting with excitement, I could not help but follow up with my own as his wants and needs travelled through the bond monopolising my every thought and action.
