Chapter 21

287 Words

MCLAIN HOUSE Blondie has prepared spaghetti for dinner, which the kids really love. I do too. I compliment her on her cooking choice and attempt to have a pleasant dinner with the kids. After dinner, I talk a little longer with the kids than usual, then the kids head off upstairs to complete homework. Blondie and I sit over a second cup of coffee. I attempt to explain the situation about the guy coming to the office tomorrow and that I will need to take the vacation money, fifty dollars of it. Her face falls and I think I see tears develop in her eyes. I reach across the table and hug her saying I will somehow replace the money so we can still have a family vacation. Brave words for a guy on a small salary. She gets up and reaches for the empty coffee container that holds our treasure.
