Jack watched Pilar’s back a little while later as she disappeared into the bedroom. He wanted to call Dunn and tell him what he found out, but she could overhear the conversation. Instead, Jack settled for a quick text that he hoped would explain everything.
She doesn’t know anything.
He tucked his phone away and set about cleaning up the kitchen. It was a pet peeve of his that things were left for morning, something ingrained in him since childhood. When he was done, he grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and went back to the couch.
Without the option to flip channels, Jack put on another movie and tried to lose himself in the Adam Sandler comedy. His mind kept returning to the things Pilar said. All the tiny pieces of information they didn’t know.
She loved Carlos.
