The Moondance Dungeons

Jared, Thomas, and Brian arrived at the pack’s territory. The pack’s village was at the heart of its lands and was a testament to their strength and unity. It looked like a high-end gated resort to the world outside paranormal creatures. As Jared, Thomas, and Brian approached the gated entrance, a guard standing watch stopped them at the gate. The guard, a burly man with a stern expression, scrutinized them as they approached. His eyes flickered in recognition when he saw them, and he relaxed his stance slightly. “Hey, guys,” the guard spoke to them in a gruff voice over mind link. “You’re back late. Everything okay?” Jared stepped forward, still in his wolf form, and nodded. He replied over mind link, “Yeah, everything’s fine. We just ran into something unexpected on our patrol.” The guard’s eyes darted to Thomas’ wolf and the woman on his back. He took a step back and ran a hand through his hair. “Right. Well, go on through. I’ll alert the guard at the dungeon that you’re bringing a she-wolf.” The gate slowly creaked open, and the trio entered the village. The village comprised modern buildings constructed with wood and stone to blend seamlessly with the surrounding natural environment. The facilities were comfortable, with all the modern amenities required for comfortable living. Brian couldn’t stand the silence. Nobody would ever accuse him of being the silent type. Jared and Thomas looked at Thunder as he grunted. “What’s on your mind, Brian?” Jared asked. “Who do you think she is?” Brian responded, still thinking about the she-wolf they found near the river. Thomas raised an eyebrow. “Who are you talking about, Brian?” “The she-wolf we found near the river, the one on your back!” Brian explained. “Do you think she’s a rogue? But how could we explain her not having the distinctive stink rogues usually have?” Jared looked thoughtful. “It’s possible. But it’s also possible she’s just lost.” Thomas nodded in agreement. “We won’t know much about her until she wakes up, and we can talk to her. So let’s stop with the detective work. Let’s leave that for Alpha and Beta.” Brian continued. “But why would a lone wolf come into our territory? And why was she alone?” Snow shook his head. “Maybe she got separated from her pack. Maybe they kicked her out. Or maybe she’s just passing through.” Brian continued. “I don’t buy it. There’s something about her that’s off. I can’t put my finger on it.” He paused. “Have you told the boss yet, Thomas?” Thomas replied, “How could I have told the boss? He’s away at a conference, bro! We don’t get long-distance coverage for mind link! He’ll be back soon enough, and she doesn’t seem like a threat.” The dungeon was deep within the pack’s territory, hidden from prying eyes. The three werewolf patrollers arrived at the pack dungeon, their steps heavy with the weight of their unconscious charge. Before getting in, a guard met them. The guard raised his eyebrows when he saw the three werewolf patrollers, with Night carrying an unconscious woman on his back. At that point, Jared and Brian shifted back to their human forms. Thankfully, they kept clothing handy for situations such as this. The guard handed a pair of basketball shorts to each patroller. Once dressed, Jared took the she-wolf off Thomas’ back so he could shift and put on some clothes. “Whoa, what happened here?” the guard asked, a note of concern in his voice. “We found this woman on the west border. She was alone and unconscious,” Thomas explained. “Her smell is not familiar, but she doesn’t smell like a rogue,” Brian replied. The guard nodded in understanding. “I see. Let me call the Doc. She’ll look at her and see if we can identify her.” “Thank you,” Jared said, grateful for Alex’s help. As they made their way through the dimly lit corridors, their footsteps echoed off the stone walls. Further down the hall, there were several cells with medical equipment. Alex unlocked the door, and the group carefully placed the unconscious female rogue inside. “Do we have an ETA on Dr. Cassandra?” Thomas said, breaking the silence. “She needs a physical exam to check if she’s okay.” Alex nodded in agreement. “Yeah, we don’t know what injuries she sustained from that fall. It’s better to be safe than sorry.” Having completed their task, the patrollers took their leave. The three werewolf patrollers emerged from the dungeon, their eyes adjusting to the moonlight. They made their way towards the main pack house, their steps quick and determined. ***** Dr. Cassandra, the 45-year-old female werewolf pack doctor, was a beautiful and formidable figure in the Moondance pack. She was tall and lean, with striking amber eyes, keen intelligence and a fierce determination. Her hair was long and dark, often pulled back into a tight braid that stressed her sharp cheekbones and strong jawline. She carried herself with a confident grace from years of experience and training in medicine. Doc’s background was a somewhat mysterious one. She rarely spoke of her past. She was a humble and approachable figure in the Moondance pack. Her patients and colleagues appreciated her greatly. They enjoyed she was always willing to lend an ear or offer advice when needed. Her presence in the pack provided comfort and strength for everyone around her. Alex accompanied her to the she-wolf’s cell when she arrived at the dungeons. As she approached the cell, she could feel the weight of the guard’s eyes on her back, watching as she worked. “Dr. Cassandra, how is she doing?” He asked. Cassandra looked up at the guard and replied, “Give me a minute - or two - to assess her, will you?” Dr. Cassandra was a skilled physician who examined the unconscious she-wolf. She crouched beside the she-wolf’s body, her eyes narrowing as she took in the woman’s condition. The she-wolf’s breathing was shallow and laboured. Cassandra’s fingers moved with deft precision, probing the she-wolf’s body for any sign of injury or illness. As she worked, she whispered to the she-wolf, her voice low and soothing. “Don’t worry, my dear. I’m here to help you,” she murmured, her hand running gently over the she-wolf’s body. The she-wolf remained still, but Cassandra could sense the faint stirring of consciousness beneath the surface. She smiled to herself, satisfied with the progress she was making. After several minutes of careful examination, Cassandra rose to her feet and turned to face the guard. Cassandra told the guard the patient had severe injuries, but they weren't fatal. “She seems to have mostly healed,” she said. “Her wolf must be strong. I want to take her back to my clinic to check her out properly.” “Doc, you know we need the Alpha’s approval to move a rogue out of the dungeon,” Alex intervened. Cassandra rolled her eyes, her mind already trying to figure out a solution and what equipment she could bring to the dungeon. She was a healer at heart, and the she-wolf’s condition had awakened a deep sense of purpose within her. Alex asked, “Have you figured out who she is?” “No, not yet,” replied Cassandra. “I would need to run her DNA through our database. I’ll also need to do a full physical exam once she wakes up, and then we can try to identify her.” Alex looked at the unconscious female and said, “She looks so helpless. How could someone leave her out in the woods like that?” Dr. Cassandra nodded in agreement. “We need to find out who did this to her and bring them to justice.” She turned to Alex and said, “I’ll do my best to discover what happened to her. But right now, our priority is ensuring she recovers fully.” The guard nodded and watched as Cassandra continued to review the medical charts. After a few moments of silence, Alex spoke up. “Dr. Cassandra, do you think she’s a rogue?” Cassandra paused for a moment before answering. “It’s possible. But it’s also possible that she’s from another pack. We won’t know until we can identify her.” Alex spoke up next. “What if she’s dangerous? Should we keep her chained up like this?” Cassandra looked at the guard and said, “Isn’t it Alpha Gabriel’s standard procedure to keep prisoners restrained until we can assess them? That said, I don’t think she’s a danger to anyone. She’s too weak even to stand. But to avoid insulting Gabriel, let’s chain her up.” Alex asked, “What will happen to her once she recovers?” Cassandra replied, “That’s up to the Alpha. For now, our priority is her health and safety.” She followed up, telling Alex that she needed to run to the clinic to get equipment for her patient. Alex nodded in agreement. As they left the infirmary room, he turned to Dr. Cassandra and said, “We need to find out who did this to her. I don’t want anyone else to suffer as she did.” She nodded in agreement. While walking to the clinic, she quickly chatted with her wolf, Izzy, over the mind link. “That she-wolf in the dungeon has a familiar scent. I can’t quite place it, but there’s something there,” Izzy said. Cassandra nodded in agreement. “I know what you mean, Izzy. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it either, but something about her seemed off. And it’s not just that they found her unconscious in our territory.”
