A road of no return
For the first time in years, Marlene Cain felt at peace. She sat relaxed on the floor of the barn, leaning against the wooden wall, and exhaled. Tonight was different. The crackling of the small fire she had made to keep them both warm soothed her in ways she couldn't explain. She looked out the barn's open window and viewed the sky, with the full moon shining in its brightness. Her senses were sharp, and the wolf in her was at peace.
She knew it wasn't the full moon or the view of the night that gave the wolf in her peace of mind. It was the mystery figure resting on her lap. She couldn't help but place her right hand to caress his lips, and her other hand sliding up and down his hairy body. She knew she had found her soulmate, and his face melted all her troubles away. She poured out all her love as she examined his physique. "He's fit," she thought.
But this was more than his features or physique; it was about the aura coming out of him. It was different, and she knew it in her heart. She felt as if she had known him for years. Everything about him was different, and she couldn't explain it. She couldn't pinpoint why, why him. She had never met anyone like him before on a run or hunt. Every full moon was always about killing or bekilled, but this night spoke differently.
Their wolves had sensed each other from miles away, then they met at a clearing, each looking for a way to get to the other. The closer they got, the stronger the connection felt, and they couldn't shake the feeling. Two strange lone wolves on a full moon night, a dangerous rare encounter. They ran together, side by side, whining, and playing. Their hearts' Wi-Fi was unprotected to each other, and it discovered it and connected immediately. They ran for hours, looking out for each other, and they loved it even in their wolf form. After hours of exploring the woods, they needed rest, but she wasn't feeling sleepy and transformed first, sitting against the wooden wall.
He didn't transform fast but instead lay on her lap. His fur was a rich brown color, with darker markings around his eyes and nose. His muscles rippled beneath his fur, and she could see the power in his body. And then, in a moment that took her breath away, the wolf nuzzled her hand. She felt the roughness of his tongue against her skin, and she knew that he trusted her. It was a feeling she couldn't quite explain, but it was like another bond had been formed between them.
She looked down at him, sleeping peacefully on her lap as he transformed in his sleep. His strong chest rose and fell with each breath, and she could feel the warmth of his body against her thighs. His face was relaxed, and she could see the hint of a smile on his lips. He was a handsome man, with chiseled features and a fit physique that spoke of hours spent practicing.
She decided it wasn't best to jump into conclusions, but her heart said otherwise. Her heart drifted a little, and a memory of her past ordeals ran through her head, which brought a burning question. Who am I? What if his pack won't accept me as their own?
Who would blame her? She had seen her share of that. After a rival pack took out her pack in cold blood, she had to make a run for her life. She was just a nameless wolf with a nameless home, a stray wolf with no origin. Outsiders are not taken well by the pack; it's what her family has done before so who could she blame , it's a circle everyone is trapped in , a fight of survival.
"Hey!" A deep cool voice called out .
She woke up in a daze , it's morning and the sun's lit . She looked up to see the figure from the night standing over her , hands gently on her shoulder, he smiled.
"I think you fell asleep," he said .
She looked around , noticed they were still naked and the fire had died down.
He must have just woken up too , she wondered how long she had been out .
"Sorry," she said . "Don't know when I sleep , I must have been tired ".
She's nervous and he knew it .
He smiled again , then stood up , the ray from the morning sunlight passing through the window shone in his face , making it glow and look more attractive.
He moved away from the window , towards the corner of the bar then took a bottle of water and offered.
" Do you want a drink ? " He asked ,then added , "thought you'd be thirsty so—"
He laughed.
But she was dumbfounded .
" Uhm ! I can return it if you don't want to", he said nervously.
"Yes,No, I mean I want, "She stuttered.
She was surprised. Not by his words , but by his laugh . It was soft , elegant and seemed to fade smoothly into the room , just like everything else about him , it was mysterious."
Marlene took the bottle of water, grateful for the distraction from her racing thoughts. She unscrewed the cap and took a long sip, feeling the cool water soothe her parched throat. As she drank, she watched the man move around the barn, picking up his clothes and getting dressed. She couldn't help but notice how gracefully he moved, as if he was in perfect harmony with his surroundings.
When he was fully dressed, he walked over to her and sat down beside her, their shoulders touching. Marlene felt a jolt of electricity shoot through her body at the contact, and she quickly moved away, embarrassed.
"I'm sorry," she said, her face turning red. "I didn't mean to intrude on your personal space."
"It's okay," he said, his voice low and soothing. "I don't mind."
They sat in silence for a few moments, each lost in their own thoughts. Marlene couldn't help but wonder who this man was and where he came from. She was drawn to him in a way that she couldn't explain, and it frightened her.
"What's your name?" she asked, breaking the silence.
He turned to her and smiled. "My name is Logan."
Logan. The name suited him, she thought. It was strong and simple, just like him.
"I'm Marlene," she said, extending her hand.
Logan took her hand in his, and Marlene felt a spark of electricity shoot through her body again. This time, she didn't pull away. Instead, she held on tight, not wanting to let go.
As they sat there, holding hands, Marlene felt a sense of peace wash over her. For the first time in years, she felt like she had found something she had been searching for her entire life. She didn't know what the future held, but she knew that she wanted Logan to be a part of it.
As they sat there, lost in their own thoughts, the sun began to rise, casting a warm glow over the barn. Marlene knew that they had to leave soon, but she didn't want to break the spell.
"Can I see you again?" Logan asked, breaking the silence.
Marlene looked at him and smiled. "I would like that very much."
They exchanged phone numbers and promised to keep in touch. As Marlene got up to leave, she felt a pang of sadness wash over her. She didn't know what the future held, but she knew that she didn't want to let go of the man who had brought her so much peace in such a short amount of time.
As she walked out of the barn and into the warm embrace of the morning sun, Marlene knew that her life would never be the same again. She had found something she had been searching for her entire life, and she wasn't going to let it go.
