Chapter five
Evelyn's POV
The ray of the sun penetrated through the blinds. I opened my eyes to find myself lying on the bed.
The colourful tapestries adorning the walls seemed to dance in the soft, golden light. I blinked, confused, as my gaze wandered around the unfamiliar room. Where was I? The last thing I remembered was...was the fire. The pain. The feeling of life slipping away from my body.
I sat up with a jolt, my heart racing. But I wasn't in the courtyard anymore. I was in a beautiful, luxurious bedroom. The bed I lay on was plush and comfortable, with soft, white sheets that smelt of perfumes.
I swung my legs over the side of the bed, feeling a bit dizzy. My feet dangled in the air, and I noticed that they were clean and unburned. How was that possible? I remembered feeling the flames burning my skin.
A door creaked open, and a figure entered the room. “You should be up and about now, princess. Your father wants to see you.” a maid said, hurrying me to get out of bed.
I looked at her as I blinked twice. “Princess? Who the hell is that?” The word slipped from my mouth even before I could restrain myself. “Who are you?”
The maid was taken aback by my words. She looked at me, and I could feel like she was staring at another different person entirely.
“Princess, have you forgotten your friend is coming? You need to dress and get ready.” The maid said finally and walked out of my room.
Everything felt unreal; one minute I was shouting in pain as the fire burnt my skin, and the next minute I was lying on this expensive bed with the word “princess.” added to my name.
I got out of bed and walked towards the full-length mirror right in front of me. I gasped seeing my face. “Who am I? And which pack was it?”
I was lost in my thoughts when the door opened and Serena Blackthorne walked in. She furrowed her brows when she saw me staring at the mirror. “Have you even had your bath?”
I stared back at her like I was seeing a ghost. “Sorry,” I said, stammering. “You need to at least have your bath if you are going to come with us.” She said and walked over to my bed.
“Come with you, to where?” I asked, getting away from the mirror. “Don't tell me you didn't hear about the death of Alpha Darius's father. We are going to pay some respect. His father was a good man.” Serena said, looking at me suspiciously.
I knew I had to blend in or she was going to know I was not who I claimed to be. “Hurry up,” she said finally.
I dashed into the bathroom to get cleaned up with a racing heart. I don't know who my father or mother was.
What if I was caught?
Would I be executed once again?
Or should I tell them? Maybe they might help. But what if I was killed again?
I needed to prove my innocence and seek revenge against Alpha Darius and Lyanna. That was all that mattered now, and I was going to be happy to be a maid just to have my revenge against Lyanna.
The door opened, and I saw a woman walk in without being told. I knew she was the mother of the body I inhabit. “Why are you not dressed?” Freya Carter looked at me.
“I woke up late.” I said with a smile, trying to blend in. Freya looked at me and was surprised to see me smile. “Did I do something wrong?” I asked, Not sure?
“Nothing.” She said, walking towards me. She patted me on the back and walked out. I looked at Serena. “What is happening with my mother?” I asked as I got into my gown.
“I don't know; you have been sulking ever since you caught your mate cheating with some girl. I was surprised you have gotten over it already.” She said, still looking at me.
I let out a smirk. I had been tied to a stake and burnt alive in my previous life, but here I was in another body being told I was sulking over a man who jilted me. I think I was lucky to be jilted then being killed.
“Do you think she did it?” I looked at Serena.
“Who?”
“I heard some girl killed the Alpha.” I replied, trying to hear what Serena had to say.
“It doesn't matter, friend. I think Alpha Darius wanted someone to take the blame. Come to think of it, the girl is no one. I even heard she was just a nobody before she was fated to marry him.”
I clenched my hands in anger. “I am sure he does.” I replied. “ All set?” Serena looked at me, and I nodded.
I was about to walk down the hallway when I felt my wolf awaken. “Mate.” She said slowly, following the alluring male scent that I asked about, coming from the main room.
“You kept us waiting.” A voice said, looking at me. But I wasn't myself; I was lost with my gaze fixed on my mate.
“Violet.” Freya called out again.
“I am sorry, father.” I replied, bowing my head.
“Can we go now?” The handsome young man said, looking at me.
Serena giggled seeing I was dumbstruck with his brother's look. “You seem carried away. Do you like the outfit I chose for him?” She asked, staring at me as we mounted the horses.
I didn't reply; I was carried away with the thoughts of going back to where I was killed. I was curious. The thought of seeing my body tied to a pole and burnt alive was scary, but yet I wanted to see what happened to my body.
The moon goddess had decided to give me a second chance to find out who killed Alpha Darius's father and why. I wasn't going to let the opportunity slip by me.
“Violet?” Serena called once more.
I jerked my horse slowly and smiled, “Yes, the outfit looks nice. I love it.” I looked at her as I rode into the light with the thought of just one thought: vengeance.
