Chapter Five: Too Old for Nerf Guns

1909 Words
Rheya POV Before I knew it, it was Saturday, the day of my party. I could hear all the hustle and bustle of my parents getting everything ready, I hate parties and I hate being social. Especially when tonight can result in me meeting my mate, I’m not ready. I look at the clock, it is 8 AM and the party starts at 4 PM. “Why are you not excited for meeting our mate?” Sotiras asks with a sadness in her voice. I know its in her nature to crave a mate, but she doesn’t understand my fear. “He may not accept us, like my dad didn’t accept my mom at first.” I replied to her. “But he did eventually” she said smugly. “Whatever” I replied before blocking her off. I’ve convinced myself a mate was bad for me since I knew what they were, she can’t change my mind now. “You’re up! Nat and I coming up their right now! We HAVE to start getting ready!” Tyler screamed in my head! I winced at the sudden intrusion in my head, this mind link will take some getting used to. Tyler and Nat come bursting into my room and jumped on me before I could even get a chance to defend myself. “The party isn’t for 8 hours! Why do we HAVE to get ready now?!” I yelled at them. “Because we talk to much and I’m sure you and Ty will end up fighting once or a few times. I’m just giving us time to be our mischievous selves!” Nat replies in a matter of fact tone while rolling her eyes. Damn, she’s right. “In that case, lets start our shenanigans early then!” I say with a sneaky smile. I get up and run over to my closet and grab our favorite toys. The nerf guns! I toss Ty and Nat their guns while motioning to head out the door. This is one of our favorite pass times, we run around through the house shooting everyone with nerf guns. Every time we do it our parents take our guns, but I always buy more and hide them. I’ve even included my siblings in on it, they all have their own hidden nerf guns. It never gets old to see the look on their faces when they get hit with that first dart. It relaxes me honestly, and today I need it more than ever. Since I know my parents won’t be on their floor above us, I skip that and head straight to my siblings’ room. I plan to hit Maxwell and Benjamin first then Liya and Zach. All three of us crept to the boys’ room and I place my ear to the door trying to listen to see what they’re doing before I barge in. I can hear the shower running so I know one of them is in the bathroom, but nothing else. I slowly open the door careful not to make any creaking sounds. The boys’ room is almost twice the size of mine, which makes sense because theirs two of them. I look around and don’t spot anybody, so I assume one of them is downstairs. I decide to wait it out, so we don’t see one of my brothers naked. After another minute, the shower turns off, Tyler, Nat, and I can’t help but let out a giggle as we c**k our guns. I hear the bathroom door unlock and as it opens, we rain down with our nerf bullets. But we stop as soon as we start, its not who we think it is. “Oww what the f*ck?!” a random female yelled at us. My brother comes out behind her. “Rheya what the hell are you doing?!” Maxwell barks at me. “I’m enjoying my morning. What are you doing showering with a random girl?!” I yell back at him standing to him, he shrinks down as soon as my Alpha tone shines through. He may have an alpha gene as well, but I’m older and more powerful. Before he can respond she pushes past him and gets in my face and speaks “I’m his girlfriend not a random girl. Who do you three think you are sitting in my mates’ room?” Oh no, this girl has no idea who she’s speaking to, and mate? They can’t be mates yet, he isn’t 18! “You guys can’t be mates. Max isn’t 18, no matter your age you can’t feel a connection until you’re both 18,” Natalie says while Tyler puts some space between me and the girl. It doesn’t matter how strong I am, it will always be their instinct to protect their Alpha (or in this case the future one). The girl spins around and places her hands-on Max’s chest, “Baby don’t listen to them. They’re lying I feel the pull to you my love.” She ends her sentence with a pouty lip before reaching up and kissing him. Nobody can feel the connection. EVER. Before their mate is 18, she’s lying! That wench, nobody lies to my family. Before I can even think about what I’m doing I snatch her arm and yank her away from my brother and dragging her down the stairs. She fights me the whole way down while Maxwell is trying to stop me. But I can’t be stopped physically, and he knows that. It’s just a series of pleads and begs that leave their mouths. By time we reach the bottom floor we’ve caused such a commotion that everyone is waiting. Tyler explains to my parents what is happening, but I don’t care to stop what I’m doing. I make my way to the front door before I open it and toss her out. She scrambles to her feet still clutching the towel, and only then do I realize she never had time to dress, here she stands in nothing but a towel looking like a wreck. “Rheya!” Max yells as he pushes passed me, “Stop! This isn’t fair! You’re just jealous you have no mate!” He stands in front of his “mate” in a fighting stance. I smirk, he knows he could never beat me. “She isn’t you’re mate Maxwell! She wouldn’t feel anything!” I growl out at him. My mother and father come up behind me, my Dad handing the girl her clothes that Nat brought down with us. While my mother places a hand on my shoulder attempting to calm us down. “I’m sorry son. She may very well be your mate. But she wouldn’t feel anything for another two years.” My dad states before turning to the woman. “What is your name?” “Kristina.” She says while she slips her shorts on under the towel and her shirt over before taking the towel off and giving it to Max. “Well…Kristina…Please follow me up to our office and we can talk.” My mom says before turning around and walking up the stairs and my dad following right behind. Maxwell ushers for Kristina to following while glaring at me. I’m still standing in the doorway so they both must squeeze passed me. I continue to glare until they’re out of my eyesight. “What a morning!” Tyler booms and he falls over laughing. “See why I give us so much time to get ready?” Nat joins in on the laughter. By now I’m laughing too as we all head into the kitchen to grab a coffee and a snack. Sarah made eggs and bacon for us, bringing us our plates as we sit down. “What a commotion you started this morning!” She says while giving me a smile. “HEY! I didn’t start it, I simply finished it! That girl started it!” I hollered to her! Before she could say anything else my mom mind linked me asking me to join them in the office. “Ugh! My parents want me up there.” I grab another bite a food while grabbing my cup of orange juice and turning to walk out. “We’ll be in the game room! Link me when you’re done!” Ty yells as I start heading up the stairs. As I approach my parent’s office I knock before I get approval to enter. My parents are sitting behind the desk while Max and Kristina sit in the guest chair in front of them. Max immediately starts glaring daggers at me and Kristina rolls her eyes. Without thinking I let out a growl causing them both to sulk back. “Enough!” my father slams his hand down on the desk, “Rheya, tell your side of the story please.” I sit in the third guest chair and tell them the correct version of the story. Once I’m done my mother is the first to speak up. “So, your sister was doing something she always does, and you let an outsider disrespect her? Son she wants to protect you. She tells the truth; Kristina cannot feel a mate pull. I’m not saying you guys cannot enjoy each other’s company, but you cannot be sure she is your mate until you turn 18.” I smirk but then she turns to me, “And you! Firstly, you are 18 and so close to being Alpha. Stop with the nerf guns.” I know she’s not mad, but I nod my head to agree. She continues “and you need to respect your brothers…girlfriend…yes she lied, and she knows where she was wrong but from here on out its over. Respect each other and be friends. It’s not worth fighting with your siblings.” I know she’s right and in time it’ll reveal whether Kristina and Max are mates, even though I’m sure they’re not and she’s up to know well. But a true alpha, an honest leader, will admit when they are wrong. I stand up. “You are right Alpha. My apologies for creating a commotion this morning.” I turn to Max and Kristina before I continue. “I apologize to you Maxwell for disrespecting your girlfriend, and Kristina I’m sorry for disrespecting you.” They both mutter out apologies before Maxwell speaks up, “Can we be dismissed?” My father gives a single nod and they hurry out of the room. I stare in awe that my brother can be this disrespectful. My dad places her hand on my shoulder, “You did the right thing, you are the bigger person. Continuing to fight him will only make him push us all away.”  My mother now transitions from Alpha to excited mom of the birthday girl. “Okay sweetie. I’m off to finish preparing for the party. Remember it starts at 4 pm, so I need you ready and out front to Welcome the other packs at 3:45. Now off you go.” She says as she pushes me out of the room. “Hey Ty, I’m done being in trouble! Meet in my room and bring me a snack!” I mind like Tyler while I head down the stairs to my room. Always snacking, as a werewolf we burn through calories like crazy before we shift and after its 10 times worse. A few minutes later Natalie and Tyler come in with a big bowl of mixed fruit. Before I can even think to grab some Nat stops me and pushes me to the bathroom. “No. Shower first. Wash your hair AND exfoliate!” She says, and I left out a defeated sigh. I shut the door and turn the shower on and begin to strip. “Don’t forget to shave honey! You never know!” I hear Ty snicker through the door.
