“Where is she Alex, point me in the direction of your little “Kitten” Layla heard a menacing voice coming down the hall with her cat-like ears.
She always knew she had a connection to cats, even knew she acted like one, and her reflexes were telling her now she was in danger.
The voice booming down the hall, it reminded her of the man she wanted to kill.
“I don’t care if she’s beat up I want to talk to her...Now,”
The voice was getting closer, ringing in her ears, the sense of imminent danger, and she had to get out of harm's way.
In what seemed like a second, she had her lines and patches ripped off, and not giving a care for the blood streaming down her arms, she ran to the window, unlocked it and climbed out, running to safety, to who knows where. She didn't care, she just had to run.
She quickly turned her head and focused her vision, deciding a straight line was the best path to take. No one was around that she could see, so Layla took off, out into the wilderness, running like a cat on the hunt, only she was the one being hunted..
“Damn, it Alex!”
Axel opened the door to find an open window and blood streaking the floor.
He turned and growled at his beta, who shrugged his shoulders, “I can’t help it, Axel, if she’s smart as a whip and cunning as a cat, not to mention fast as lightning, hell, she would be perfect for..”
“Shut up beta, I don’t want to hear it!” the alpha cut him off
Axel stuck his nose in the air and picked up her scent. She may be smart and fast, but she was injured, and bleeding, and no match for him.
He ran out of the hospital, picking up her trail with ease, and ran to save the “Kitten” her beta was so fond of.
“Going after a useless human,” he uttered to himself as he gained on her. Her tracks were soft though, hard to follow if you weren’t a wolf, an alpha, to be exact.
Layla ran as far as her feet could take her, before her legs gave out and dizziness took over.
She was just at the edge of the forest, with a clearing up ahead, if she could only get to it.
Her mind was willing, but her body wasn’t. The world was spinning around her and her head was splitting. How was she going to get out of this. She fell to her knees, giving in to her weakness.
“Maybe if I just sit here and rest a minute…”
But then, she heard a menacing growl.
Before her in the clearing, stood a huge wolf, with hulking muscles and angry red eyes, He was tall and bulging with muscles, but dirty, with dinghy clothing. A rogue.
Layla knew enough about wolves to know a rogue when she saw one. All wolves were deadly, but the rogues were the worst, and she knew this one. He was one of her…
“ Hello, little kitten,” His voice oozed danger.
“A little banged up I see, and bleeding to boot. You’re too weak to fight me now, Let me just grab your arm and pull you over the border, then you’ll be mine…”
Layla was too tired to fight. She was on her knees, swaying back and forth, welcoming death.
“See you soon, mom,” she whispered, then closed her eyes.
The rogue reached for her, but he missed. Instead, he was grabbed and pulled into wildwood territory.
The last thing Layla heard before she passed out again was the sickening sound of a neck cracking, and a body hitting the ground.
She felt herself being picked up, with her eyes fluttering open briefly to see who it was
Axel picked up the small figure swaying on her knees just before she passed out. She was alive, but barely, with blood dripping down both her arms, barely breathing
“s**t, i’ve got to get her back soon.
He closed his eyes and mind linked the pack, making them aware of the little human’s dire situation...
“ She needs blood, and fluids, but she should be ok, brave little s**t to run off from you alpha,” One of the doctors said, frowning as he stood over her.
“Hmmph," Axel stood up and shook his head, "take her to the jail infirmary, lock her up and take care of her there, ‘ was his short reply.
“Ok, sir, we’ll get a stretcher,”
“f**k, nevermind I’ll take her myself.”
Axel scooped Layla’s limp body and ran with her to the jail, which was minutes away. His huge strides put them there in a matter of seconds, where the doctors were waiting.
Standing over her, scrutinized the doctors and nurses every move as they replaced her iv’s and started her blood.
A frown came across his face as he observed the small creature laying before him. Alex wasn’t lying, she was little, and very cute. He winced when he stared at her bruised face and body, but worse, he knew who did this, and they were still after her.
An out of breath Alex came running up to him, “Alpha, what are you doing, putting her in the jail, she’s a very young and scared girl, c’mon man,”
Axel didn’t answer, he just stood there, his hazel eyes brimming over the young woman. He snarled with disgust,” damn human” he muttered again, but why was he feeling so protective over her.
“Yellow eyes, beautiful,” He murmured to himself, He had seen them when she glanced up at him in the forest, a beautiful golden hue. He shook his head, turning to his beta,
“Whatever, she’s just a human and a pain in my ass, but she’s going nowhere until she talks.
“What was that, alpha,” Alex was beside him, awaiting a response.
“She’s not safe, Alex, someone else tried to attack her in the forest, so for now , she stays here, but then she will be moving to my quarters,”
Alex was baffled by his normally stoic alpha’s actions. Axel wasn’t one to bring any woman to his chambers, not for seven years, especially a human. But now, he was going to let this girl...
“Why are you doing this to her, alpha, being so mean, I don’t understand, wait a minute,”
Alex turned to his alpha with a crooked smile,”You like her, don’t you. I know you friend, you
haven’t looked at another woman twice since your mate died, and now..”
“Damn it Alex, shut the hell up about the mate thing. I’m just trying to protect her stupid human ass,”
“Cat, cat ass Axel. You know as well as I do she has extraordinary fast reflexes and cunning. She outsmarted you. I am beginning to believe those stories grandmas may be true, we should go ask..”
“Later, Alex, no one’s going to talk to her until our “kitten” gets better, then she will answer to me, I want to know why she was snooping around my brother’s warehouse, why she would try and take on a pack of wolves… stupid girl,” He muttered under his breath. No human would be that brave or arrogant, unless… she knew him?
