Ch 1 - Engagement
~Aria's POV~
The sound of running water pierced through my ears, reminding me what had just transpired in this room. The air of ambuity still lingered in the air, but more than regret, I felt guilty. Maybe because I shouldn't be here and I shouldn't be doing this?
I felt disgusted with myself, yet I smiled a bitterly, pushing away every sense of disgust. I wasn't just doing this for myself, I thought. It was probably to convince myself. Perhaps I had a choice, and perhaps I did not- it was the latter.
The sound from the bathroom quickly muffled in my ear as the huge screen in front of me flashed with pictures.
Stunned, I stared at the two people in front of the screen.
Kaius, and a woman - Sofia, the queen of the entertainment industry!
I quickly increased the volume to listen to what was being said, and the more I listened, the more I felt my small heart shatter.
“Billionaire, Kaius Blackwood announces engagement to actress Sofia Reyes.”
What was this feeling?
Pain? Jealousy? Whatever it was, I deeply hated it.
It was seeping deep into my blood, making my heart clench.
Just then, the door to the bathroom opened with a click, and I turned to stare at the man who had just walked out, clad in a black long sleeve shirt and black pants as though nothing had happened between us just now.
He calmly stared at the screen, and I knew I couldn't ask him about it.
“What? You shouldn't be too surprised about me getting engaged.” Kaius said, his eyes devoid of any emotions as he stared at me, and I felt the urge to chuckle.
Of course…I shouldn't be surprised.
Why should I be?
“You should know your place, should you not? Or are you expecting me to get engaged to you instead? Don't flatter yourself.” The man's sharp words came, shattering my heart even more.
I bit my lip hard, feeling the faint taste of metal in my mouth...Blood.
Perhaps I shouldn't expect much from this man, but deep down I still felt a pang in my chest. It was a feeling that could not be shaken off.
My eyes moved as Kaius walked over to the bed, lifting my chin a little too forcefully.
I clenched my fists, my eyes getting moist under his gaze.
“What did I teach you, Aria?” His voice came intimidatingly, almost wanting me to cry out, but I knew I couldn't. I could only swallow the bile that rose up in my throat.
“To be a good girl.” I muttered.
“That's right, but what else did I teach you?”
“To never ask for love and to never get pregnant.” I said, a teardrop rolling down my cheek against my will.
Damnit! I couldn't contain how terrible I felt.
“That's good. Looks like you learned from me well.” Kaius cooed, planting a forceful kiss on my lips and almost rendering me breathless.
He picked up his coat before walking out, and I could only curl up in bed, burying my face in the pillow as I cried.
Once again, I was just a toy for everyone to use.
First, I had caught Jeffrey, my ex, cheating with another woman. And second, I had entangled myself with Kaius Blackwood who treated me like total garbage. All I did was warm up his bed, yet I knew I couldn't run away. He would find me.
He was like glue that never wore out. But more than all the drama, I couldn't understand why I felt hurt that he would be getting engaged to Sofia.
Shouldn't I be happy? He would finally let me go and get married to her, right?
I weakly picked up my scattered clothes from the floor, dragging my feet to the bathroom.
Staring at the bluish and purple marks all over my body, I smiled bitterly before taking a shower. In the end, I was a mistress against my own will.
As the water ran, my head seemed to be filled with a lot of thought.
What if Sofia found out that I had always been in bed with Kaius.
What if she found out that even before the engagement, the man had been in bed with me?
I would probably be labelled as the mistress by netizens.
Heaving a deep sigh, I pushed back the thoughts and changed into some new clothes he had bought her before slipping away from the hotel.
I arrived at the company quite early, resuming work as Kaius’s assistant.
As I walked into the office, I was stunned to see Sofia already there.
Their position was so ambitious, with Sofia sitting on Kaius's lap as she wrapped her arms around his neck. He did not seem to mind and even smiled. A smile that I had never seen on his face before.
As if noticing me, Sofia smiled coetishly before getting off him, and his eyes returned to normal.
“Since the engagement has been settled, I will look for a designer for my wedding dress.” Sofia said, not even glancing at me.
I could only clench my fists and be the small assistant I was.
“Don't worry, I'll find the best designer.” Kaius said, his gaze filled with tenderness for her.
Perhaps I felt jealous, because this man only knew how to force me into bed with him and use me until I was exhausted.
“Lets have lunch later.” She said.
“Mhmm.” He hummed and watched as he left.
“Come here.” He said to me, and I could only bite my lip before walking over.
I gasped as he pulled me by the waist, making me sit on him as his lips forceful covered mine.
He kissed me fiercely, biting and sucking on my lower lip, and I had the urge to cry.
But more than that, I felt my head spin, making me push his chest. I could see the stunned look on his face, which was quickly replaced by anger. I couldn't stay here!
Running out, I felt a wave of dizziness hit me.
I couldn't understand. I was fine before I left the hotel.
As I made my way to the public rest room of the company, my legs gave away as I fell to the floor, my eyes slowly losing their focus.
Was I dying? I thought, as a bead of tear rolled down the corner of my eyes.
It was at this minute that I knew I had fallen for Kaius Blackwood against my will.
