Chapter Two

1214 Words
"Good morning, mum!" The triplet trooped into the kitchen all dressed up for school. I shook my head seeing Collins shirt buttoned wrongly, Ally's hair was messy and Lina had toothpaste smeared around her lips. I shook my head once more letting a chuckle past my lips. The kids had insisted like every other day that they could eat ready for school without my supervision and assistance. And like every other day, they were a mess. Dropping the bowl of pancake batter on the kitchen island, I moved towards them swiftly. I crouched down pulling my son towards me. I gave him a kiss on his forehead which brought smile to his face then proceeded to correctly button his shirt. When I was done, I carried him and placed him on the kitchen island them crouched to wipe off the toothpaste Lina had smeared around her lips. "Do not dip your fingers into the batter, Collins!" This was a warning. "Sorry, mummy." I looked up to see his little fingers covered in pancake batter. With a napkin, I wiped her lips then placed her next to her brother. I carried Ally to join her siblings on the island. "Ally, remember to keep a brush in your school bag so I can help you with your hair." She nodded and I smiled. "What's for breakfast, mum?" "Lina. Pancakes, obviously!" Collins rolled his eyes and wanted to dip his fingers bro the bowl again but just before he could do so, I picked up the bowl and continue to mix with the spatula. "Not on my watch, young man." Ally and Lina were in matching outfits. A short, flowery purple grow and white popsocks. Their brown shining hair were styled in pigtails with lots of ribbons except Ally didn't o good job with hers. Collins had ginger hair and deep blue eyes that reminded me of someone from my past. He was a little taller than his sister's even though they were all the same age. Five. Whenever we all went out and the kids were together, he was constantly referred to as the big brother. I always ad to correct the notion that they were triplets. My young lad was in a red blue shirt and brown pants. I made breakfast with the kid keeping me company and telling about their wierd dreams. We laughed and joked around till breakfast was fully ready. Whilst the kids finished up their breakfast of Pancake, maple syrup and scrambled eggs, I made my way upstairs to take a shower and get ready to drop them off at school. Getting downstairs, they were done eating. I cleaned them up, they went to get their backpacks and soon they were all buckled up in the back seat of my car with me driving them to school. "Mum." This was Ally and I hummed. I glanced at her through the rear mirror and smiled at her perfect pigtails. I had helped her with combing and packing her hair so it was much better now. "We've got a field trip to a mint factory on Friday." A frown found t's way to my face. "Why am I just being old now?" Silence was the answer to my question as I took a turn, getting loser to their school. "Why am I just being old now?" I got out again, this time firmer and stricter. "We forgot." This was Lina in a small voice. Her siblings had their heads bowed. I shook my head in disbelief. The school had sent an email on Monday about the field trip and that our kid were going to bring letters that needed my signature to allow them go for the field trip. Now it was Thursday and they needed me to sign their letters. "Well, I won't be signing those letters because I've always told you three to telling me every information from school right away." "We're sorry, mummy!" They all apologized. A small smile found it's way to my features. It was really impossible to stay angry at the kids. They were just too adorable. "It's alright. Also, I also hope you've got those letters j your bags because I would be signing those letters." The kids erupted laughter and excitement. They murmured thanks. "We love you, mum." This was Lina and I smiled. "You're he best mother in the whole world!" Collins got out while Ally blew me kisses which I returned. "I love you all, babies." The kids were my happy place. They kept me moving when I was down and tired. I was eternally grateful for them because they brought meaning to my life. I dropped the kids at school not without appending my signature on their letters. I hugged them so tight, bidding hem farewell and wishing them a great day at school soon, I was on the way back home. I stopped at the grocery store to get some important things we needed in the house before finally getting home. With grocery bags each in my hand and my purse on my shoulder, I made my way towards he house from the garage. My brows furrowed when I got to the porch and saw the door ajar. I could have sworn I locked the door and the keys were in my purse. I released he grocery bags in my hand, it caused a thud as they fell to the ground. I ran into the house and gasped at the sight before me. "How?" The house was thrashed. It was in disarray. The entire living room was destroyed. The television as broken. The little chandelier hung above was destroyed with the broken rts still hung up threatening to fall down. The sofa had been ripped with foam littered all around. The vase of Ally's special plant was broken. The soil was dirt in the floor and the green leaves from early this morning were turning into yellowish color. In all my five years since I moved into the neighborhood, I had never heard a case of anyone being burgled and neither have I been burgled. My legs moved as fast as possible to the kitchen and the kitchen which I used in making breakfast for the kids was now badly destroyed. The kitchen utensils were everywhere else but where they ought to be. Quickly, I reached into my purse to get my phone so I could make a call to the police. Just before could dial the police emergency number my phone was blasting out loud. My frown deepened seeing it was the kids school. I picked the call right away. "Hello." "Miss Leila." I knew the voice of the caller. It was the kids teacher, Mrs Molly. "Just as you dropped off the kids..." Her voice was quivering and troubled. My heart was thumping in my chest. "My babies?" I didn't now what sort of news to expect from their teacher but I definitely didn't like the tone of her voice, how low it was most especially he fact that it was quivering. The kids were in great condition when I dropped them off. None of them had a fever and I made sure they all completed their homeworks. "It all happened so fast." Mrs Molly broke down in tears.
