The man she loved betrayed her, and now she needed to find a way to help her mother, who was dying; Nora's world had been turned upside down in just one momentous and cruel night. The public humiliation was a new experience for Nora. Still, ultimately, she realised she would have to accept a life that she couldn't even afford anymore, and then a powerful stranger made her an offer that could potentially change everything.

A billionaire with a reputation of being one of the most ruthless people in business, Adrian Knight believed love was a weakness. He was cold, dominant, and feared in every aspect of business, and therefore had no intention of ever entering a relationship, only to control. When he saw Nora being publicly humiliated and rejected by the man she loved, he offered her a deal: if she became his wife, he would fix all of her problems.

Nora, with few options left, agreed to marry Adrian under a contract outlining the terms of their union, including strict rules and unknown motivations.

As time went on, what began as a cold arrangement began to heat up, developing into a dangerous attraction neither of them anticipated.

Adrian became increasingly possessive of Nora. Nora became increasingly strong-willed. Behind their agreement were secrets, revenge, and a past that refused to be buried.

Ultimately, in a world of power, betrayal, and intense s****l desire, Nora had to decide whether she was going to be nothing more than a temporary wife or the only woman capable of thawing the frozen heart of a billionaire.

However, when love develops in a place it wasn't meant to, will their contract protect them, or will it tear them apart?

Chapter 1: The Night Everything Changed
I used to think that love could save me. If I just remained faithful enough... patient enough... kind enough... the man I loved would never leave me. But today I found out. No one gets saved by love. Money does. My hands shook as I stood outside the Hospital Billing Office, and the harshness of the bright white lights above me seemed to reveal every weakness I possessed. "Miss Blake," the receptionist called rudely, "are you going to settle the account today?" I felt my throat constrict. "I... I'm working on it. Could I get some more time?" She took a deep breath, as if I was taking up her oxygen supply. "We've already given you additional time. If the account is not settled today, your mother will be transferred from the Private Ward to the General Ward." Transferred to the General Ward. Those two words sliced through my chest. "My mother is very fragile," I whispered. "She cannot survive in a general ward." The receptionist merely handed me a slip. "Then find the money." Find the money. As if it grew on trees. As if I hadn't already sold all of my jewellery, my computer, my peace of mind... everything. I walked slowly back to the elevator, my legs shaky. The hallway leading to the hospital room felt longer and colder than before. My head spun. I only had one other option left. The man who once told me he would marry me. The man who once stated he would never allow me to suffer. My boyfriend, Daniel. I hesitated, my finger trembling, then dialled Daniel's number. He picked up after a few rings, sounding distracted. "Nora, I'm busy," Daniel said. My chest constricted. "Daniel... please... I need assistance." A brief pause followed. Then he let out a frustrated sigh. "What is it now?" "The hospital bill for my mom," I said softly. "They're not going to continue treating her unless I pay the bill today. I need a loan. I'll repay you slowly, I promise." The line was silent for a moment, then he laughed. It wasn't a happy laugh. It was a cold laugh. "Nora," he said, "You always seem to be getting into trouble. Always asking for money. Don't you realise how tiring that is?" Each word was like a slap. "I wouldn't ask if it weren't urgent," I whispered. "Please." He was silent for a moment, then said, "Fine. I'll meet you at the Grand Crown Rooftop Lounge in one hour. We'll discuss the terms." I felt hope grow inside me. "Alright," I said hastily. "Thanks." He disconnected the call. I closed my eyes, gripping my phone tightly. There was something in his tone that sounded wrong. Cold. Distant. I tried to ignore it. I needed that money. I would do whatever it takes. An hour later, I stood in front of the Grand Crown Hotel, looking up at the hotel towering above me. The hotel's windows gleamed like mirrors, reflecting a miniature, worn-out version of myself. I smoothed down my plain dress and walked inside. The place screamed wealth. Marble floors. Crystal lights. Everyone looked like they'd never had to worry about paying rent or hospital bills in their lifetime. I felt out of place right off the bat. But I forced myself into the elevator, and I clicked the button for the Rooftop Lounge. Once the doors opened, soft music and conversation filled the air. The Rooftop was stunning—the city's lights shone in the background, elegant tables, and wealthy-looking people everywhere. Then I spotted him. Daniel. He was sitting at a table in the corner of the room. And he wasn't alone. A beautiful woman sat next to him, her hand resting on his arm. She wore a pricey red dress and wore a self-assured grin. My feet felt slow as I approached them. Daniel noticed me and looked up. Rather than guilt, his face displayed annoyance. "Nora," he said flatly. I stopped at the table. "Daniel... who is she?" The woman smiled sweetly, but her eyes were piercing. "I'm Vanessa," she said. "His girlfriend." The word echoed in my ears. Girlfriend. I looked at Daniel, expecting him to deny it. He didn't. "I was planning to inform you," he said nonchalantly. My chest felt tight. "Tell me what? That you're cheating on me?" He leaned back as if none of this concerned him. "Don't create a scene. We're finished, Nora." Finished. Just like that. My eyes stung, but I refused to cry. Not here. Not in front of that woman. "You said you would marry me," I said quietly. "Things change," he said. Vanessa let out a soft chuckle. My hands trembled. "My mom is in the hospital, Daniel. That's why I called you. Not... this." He pulled an envelope from his pocket and set it on the table. "Here's money." Hope and shame swirled together uncomfortably in my belly. "How much?" I asked. "There's enough," he said. "But there's a condition." My stomach fell. "A condition?" "What's that?" I asked. "You'll sign a document that states you will never contact me again. No calls. No texts. No drama. Tonight, we're strangers." The words cut through me hard. "You want to erase me," I whispered. "I want peace," he said coldly. I stared at the envelope. Pride screamed at me to walk away. But my mom's pale, frail face flashed in my mind. Fading fast and fighting to live. I swallowed my pain. "I'll sign," I said softly. Vanessa smirked. "Great decision." I shot her a look. My voice quivered, but I still spoke. "Don't speak to me like I'm nothing." For a brief moment, a surprised expression crossed her face. Weak did not equal voiceless. I picked up the pen. And that's when I felt it. A sudden silence. A change in the atmosphere. Everyone nearby sat up straighter. Servers rushed over. Conversations hushed. I looked up. A tall man had just walked into the lounge. He moved with the confidence of someone who owned the space. His suit was dark and fitted perfectly. His features were chiselled, and his eyes were unreadable. He didn't glance around like everyone else. He looked like a man who owned everything he saw. Then he looked at me. I felt a lump form in my throat. He started to walk toward our table. Daniel instantly got to his feet, clearly agitated. "Mr Knight." Knight. That name caused a ripple in my memory. Adrian Knight. I knew that name. One of the wealthiest billionaires in the country. Ruthless. Unreachable. Feared. Adrian stopped beside our table, his eyes scanning the contract paper, then the envelope, then finally landing on me. His eyes were fierce. Steady. Hazardous. "Are you being coerced?" he questioned me quietly. My mouth opened. "I—" Daniel interrupted him. "Sir, it's simply a private matter—" Adrian shifted his head slightly and glared at Daniel. Daniel was silent. Adrian's eyes returned to me. "Answer." My heart pounded. I didn't understand why this stranger's query felt so weighty. "I... don't have a choice," I admitted softly. He examined me for a while. Then he stiffened. "Good," he said calmly. "Because I'm about to give you another option." Disorientation filled my brain. "Another... option?" His eyes locked onto mine. "You require funds," he said. "I need a wife." My breathing halted. "A... wife?" I whispered. "Yes," he said. The word reverberated loudly within my skull. "I've never met you," I said. "You will," Adrian replied. He took a few steps closer, his presence overwhelming, his voice low and firm. "If you sign a contract," he said, "you will sign it with me." Daniel gasped. Vanessa appeared stunned. But Adrian did not appear to notice either of them. He only focused on me. "And as soon as you belong to me," he continued quietly, firmly, "nobody will ever treat you with such humiliation again." My heart was pounding so fiercely that it hurt. This was lunacy. Hazardous. Crazy. But my mother required medical care. I needed money. I required a miracle. Adrian laid a sleek black credit card on the table. "Ring this number tonight," he instructed. And then he turned and exited the lounge, as if he had just turned my whole world upside-down. I gazed at the card in my trembling hand. The number of a billionaire. A contract marriage. A total stranger promising to alter my existence. I whispered. "What am I doing...?"
