Blurb

Other than a few blurry memories, Sarah has only ever known city she grew up in, but with the passing of her parents in a tragic accident, she is sent to live in the middle of nowhere with family she didn't know existed. When she arrives, they treat Sarah as a servant in the home and refuse to let her go out into the town without an escort. That is, until Sarah runs away.

Derrick has been a warrior for the Yellow River pack since he turned fifteen. Now that he is eighteen, he has a place on patrol and he works to protect his people. He never had interest in anything other than working and spending time with his friends, until the scent reached his nose.

Evan has been working for years at Alpha training camp and it is almost time for him to come home. His father told him that when he turned nineteen, he could officially take over the pack's safety and responsibilities. Prior to his plane ride home, Evan is informed of a new member entering the pack. Although obtaining new members has never been an issue, Evan is informed that the new member has no idea about werewolves or about pack culture. Evan instructed his father to have the new pack member kept away until he figured out how he wanted to deal with it.

Lucy has been waiting for Evan to come home for years, dying to obtain the Luna title. Lucy and Evan dated for several years prior to Evan leaving for Alpha training, so technically it should be hers right? Well now that Evan is of age to find his mate, if it's not her, there's going to be hell to pay.

Life Changing
Sarah's POV I stand near the double casket while keeping my head down, attempting to keep the tears at bay. My parents would have wanted me to stay strong, remain calm, and work through all of these emotions. I do as I was always told and count to three, then I take a deep breath. At the exhale, I lift my head up and give a small smile to those around me. I sigh, looking around the room, observing those that have supported me throughout my life. I pause as I notice some people that look similar to my father that are standing in the back corner of the room. The woman of the group looks at me and I swear her eyes were bright gold. I wipe my eyes and take another breath and when I look back up, her eyes are normal. I am not sure who they are, but they must have known my parents somehow. "Thank you all for coming today. I know that it is a hard day for us all and I appreciate having the support of friends and family around me," I say, starting the wake. "Now that everyone has been able to come up and pay their respects, the video presentation will begin. Once it is done, we have food ready down the hall for everyone to gather." I give a tight smile and walk over to my seat, watching and reliving my life through the presentation of photos and videos. I silently sob as I think about how much I am going to miss them. Each person walks up to me with their sad smiles and their condolences, you know, the typical small talk at a funeral. My mom would have been great at redirecting everyone and making this easy. I feel my chest tighten at the thought. I glance over the caskets, where my parents look like they're about to pop out and shout "it was a joke!" The people who did their makeup did the best they could after the accident. I'm not entirely sure about what happened to them; no one is. From what I know is that they went to work in the morning and then they were both attacked by a wild animal at their jobs. I don't really understand how though, because they don't even work in the same place and no one else was harmed. I shake my head and watch as the strangers approach. "Sarah," the man has a deep voice that demanded respect. "Hello?" I question while looking at each person of the group. There is a man and woman and what appears to be their three children, two girls, and a boy. The children look close to my age. "We haven't been able to introduce ourselves prior to this. My name is Tom. I am your father's brother. This is my ma-wife, Louisiana. Then there are the children; Peter, Rose, and Olive." I stare at them, mouth gaping because I had no idea my dad had any other family. Both of my parents had told me that their lives prior to moving to the city were not happy ones and that they didn't have any family left. "I'm sorry, do you have anything to back up what you say? I was told my father didn't have any family." The man's eyes suddenly glossed over as if he was possessed or something and I look at the others to see if they notice it too, however, most of their eyes look the same way. It must be grief. It has to be grief. I am not going crazy. I reassure myself. "Of course, Sarah, you would want something to back up what my husband has told you," Louisiana mutters. "How old are you dear?" "I am seventeen, ma'am." Not that it's any of her business, I thought to myself. I watched as the boy, whose name I have already forgotten smirks and his eyes do that glossy thing again. What the actual f***?! Another strange man walks up to Tom and hands him an envelope, which he then hands to me. "You will see that this is everything you'll need to know." I take the envelope out of his hands and slide the documents out. It looks to be a will signed by my mom and dad only a few months ago. I read through it but don't understand what it's saying, so I read through it again. The inheritance being in a trust for me to access at eighteen, I understood, but the rest of it doesn't make any sense. I'm supposed to go live with these people out on like a nature reserve? It says their names on the paper and that it is the last blood family relation that I have. My mouth feels like the Sahara desert as I look up at these strangers that are claiming to be my family. "I don't know what to say, but I really don't want to go and live with you. I don't have any idea who you are or if you're murders or something. I am sorry but I will get in touch with my parents' attorney prior to me packing up my life to go stay with people I have never even met!" I snap. I can feel the anger rising in me as I clutch the papers in my hand. I try to keep calm like my parents always made me do, but I could feel the anger filling my veins, drowning me in adrenaline. "GET OUT. GET OUT NOW!" I shout as my body begins to tremble. The children that are with Tom and Lousiana look at each other knowingly and leave easily. "You will NOT speak my husband that way," Lousiana hisses as she grabs my chin. I pull back my fist and connect it to her cheek, knocking her back a few feet. I watch as her eyes flash gold while she stands and attempts to come back toward me. Tom puts his arm out stopping her. "You will understand soon and when you do, we will be taking you with us. You are a minor without any parents and no assigned guardians other than what that will states. I will give you two days to say your goodbyes. That's it." He turns and drags Lousiana out of my parents' wake by her upper arm and she looks back at me and hisses. What the f***. "I am so sorry for that, ladies and gentlemen. Please return to watching the presentation or getting some food. Thank you." I grab my purse and my phone and rush into the bathroom, hoping that the attorney will answer the phone. "Hello, Simon and Simon Attorneys at Law, how can I help you?" "Uhm, hi, my name is Sarah White. I think my parents have an attorney on staff there that drafted a will?" "Oh of course, Sarah, Mr. Simon has been expecting your call. Let me patch you through." "Hello, this is Mr. Simon, how can I help you?" "Hello, this is Sarah White, do you have time for me to ask a few questions?" "Ah, are you Brady and Joy's daughter? I figured you would be calling, but not on the day of the funeral. How are you holding up?" "Well, I just had these strangers come in and provide me with a will saying that I get an inheritance when I turn eighteen but that I also have to go live with them on some like nature preserve in the middle of nowhere and I have no idea who these people are!" I begin to feel a headache come on and start to rub my temples. Of all days, why did it have to be this day? "I can understand the confusion. I worked with your parents a few months ago and they brought in a few family members to be assigned as your guardians should anything happen to you. Your father was the one that had the relations. Although you could fight the will, you will still have to have a legal guardian until you turn of age, and right now it is legally your uncle. My best advice would be to stick it out until you turn eighteen, take your money, and do as you please with it." I could hear the attorney clicking a pen in the background. "I don't want to go," I choke on a sob that had somehow escaped. "I want to stay here and finish school and then go to college. I don't want to start over. This is the only home I know." I begin to sob on the phone to the attorney, big ugly tears trailing down my face. "I'm so sorry Sarah, but you honestly don't have a choice. Good luck kid." He hung up. I slide down the wall of the bathroom, hysterically sobbing. I just lost my parents, now I'm losing my home, my job, my friends, and my school? Could life f*** me even harder?
