Lena's heart still racing, she followed Alpha Rachel to a large, wooden table at the far end of the room. The pack's den was surprisingly well-appointed, with comfortable-looking furniture and warm lighting. But despite the cozy atmosphere, Lena couldn't shake the feeling that she was being sized up, evaluated.
Alpha Rachel gestured for Lena to take a seat, and Luca sat down beside her, his hand resting on her knee. The touch was reassuring, and Lena felt a sense of gratitude towards him.
"So, Lena," Alpha Rachel said, her eyes piercing as she leaned forward. "Tell me about yourself. What brings you to our neck of the woods?"
Lena took a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts. She didn't want to reveal too much, but she also didn't want to seem evasive. "I'm a park ranger," she said, her voice steady. "I love the outdoors, and I'm passionate about conservation."
Alpha Rachel nodded, her expression thoughtful. "I see. And how did you meet Luca?"
Lena glanced at Luca, who was watching her with an encouraging expression. "We met on a patrol," she said. "He was... injured, and I helped him out."
The alpha's eyes narrowed, and she leaned back in her chair. "I see," she said. "And what do you know about Luca's... condition?"
Lena hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But something about Alpha Rachel's directness put her at ease. "I know he's a werewolf," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "And I know he's a good person, despite what he might be."
The alpha's expression softened, and she leaned forward again. "I think we're going to get along just fine, Lena," she said. "But I have to warn you, our pack doesn't take kindly to outsiders. You'll need to prove yourself to us, if you want to be with Luca."
Lena's heart skipped a beat as she met the alpha's gaze. She knew what was at stake, and she was willing to take the risk. "I'm willing to do whatever it takes," she said, her voice firm.
