It has been exactly five days since I had transferred to MGSHS. But all I did was sit in my class and fight relentlessly with Sun, who was so adamant at ruining my day—every minute. He would always disrupt my focus during lessons with his non-stop teasing.
And by the minute, I also realized that because of Sun’s full attention to me, our classmates were also giving their attention to everything I did. And I didn’t particularly like that. It felt like I suddenly became the bad guy.
Especially in the eyes of Daenna. She got me curious, among all our other classmates. She always gave me this “different” look whenever she got the chance to do so. She made it so obvious that she hated my guts.
It got me thinking that maybe she liked Sun. I warily glanced at Daenna. We were having our break right now. And Sun had to go to the faculty room because our teacher wanted to talk to him. Sun always made frequent visits to the faculty room. He was our class president. Aside from that, he constantly spoke to our Math teacher, Mr. Klaver. He was being trained for future Math competitions.
It made me think that Sun really has an image to protect. He was put onto a pedestal that even our teachers respect him. Somehow, it was the only thing that made me see how cool Sun was.
As I waited for Sun to get back, I fished out my phone from my pocket to check my notifications. I haven’t uploaded any videos on my channel yet. Some of my fans were asking how I was doing. I only updated highlights of my recent days from my everyday pictures and statuses on my social media accounts.
I unconsciously bit my lip. I need to upload a new video soon, but I can’t seem to think of any relevant content. Most of my fans requested a campus tour. I wanted to do it, too. I actually planned on doing one. Unfortunately, I couldn’t reveal my vlogger self to MGSHS. I couldn’t risk being recognized right now since our viral video was still considered as talk of the town. It wasn’t most likely to die soon.
Tomorrow would be Saturday, so maybe I could come to school and do my campus tour! Nobody would be here since it was a weekend!
“You look so happy today. What’s going on?” asked the curious Skylar. She was beaming, too, so I supposed she was also in a good mood.
I quickly locked my phone’s screen and put it back inside my pocket. “Well, just some good stuff is going well right now,” I politely answered.
“Like what?” Skylar pulled a chair in front of me and then sat on it.
I looked at Skylar. For a moment, I thought she was too nosy. Actually, for the past few days, I initially thought she was just friendly to me. And of course, I was grateful for that. So I felt guilty whenever I thought terrible about Skylar.
“Oh, it’s not relevant,” I said, smiling. Skylar nodded and quickly understood that I didn’t want to talk about anything private.
“By the way, do you have a YouTube account?”
Her question made me really nervous that I wasn’t able to answer back.
“Oh, you don’t?” she said, looking disappointed. “You should make one! YouTube has a lot of interesting things to offer. I have a few favorite vloggers.”
I cleared my throat. I thought for a moment that Skylar knew who I was. Thank goodness, that wasn’t the case. “Oh, yes, I know some vloggers, too. I w-watch YouTube videos thru my mother’s account,” I lied. I heard a few chuckles. Daenna and her g**g laughed at my response. I silently gritted my teeth.
“You should watch Daenna’s vlogs. She’s a YouTube superstar!” said one of Daenna’s minions. I recalled her name was Becca, Daenna’s right hand. Among Daenna’s minions, she seemed to be the closest to Daenna. She was also the bravest one. She’s pretty, too, but not as pretty as Daenna.
In MGSHS, Daenna seemed to be considered as the Queen, just like how she was the Queen at her former school.
“Really? What’s her channel?” I asked. I have been on YouTube for quite a few years now, but I haven’t seen Daenna’s channel yet. If she was famous, she sure had known it. Or maybe, the Upper East Side is too far from Upper West Side of Manhattan where she grew up.
“Daenna’s Sweet Adventures,” replied Cassidy, another minion. She was the “weakest” among the three minions. She seemed too timid to be a b***h, that it made her look like a trying hard gangster.
Oh, I hadn’t heard of it. “Sure, I’ll check her channel out.”
“Why don’t you check it out now?” asked Dorothy with an arched brow. She wore the most makeup among Daenna’s group.
“Here! This is Daenna’s channel,” said Skylar. She gave me her phone to check it out. “She has one million subscribers! Cool, right?”
Just by looking at Daenna and her minions’ faces, she knew they all want to intimidate me. If only they would see my channel, they’d die of a heart attack. I got one million subs in just five months! Ha! Take that, my mind shrieked.
“Cool! I’ll hit the subscribe button,” I said, faking my enthusiasm.
“That’s great, although I don’t really need it much,” said Daenna with oozing arrogance.
Ungrateful. Every subscriber was a blessing. Every like and every comment should be treated as special. I suddenly knew why she never made it far. Ungrateful people never succeed.
“You should know your place,” Dorothy said. She gave me a disgusting look. “You can’t mess with a Queen,” she even added.
Everyone in our room stared at me. I felt how powerful Daenna’s group were. I saw hatred and fear in our classmates’ eyes as they stared at Daenna. Even Skylar seemed alarmed. If they thought they’d intimidate me, they were all idiots. A Queen? If Daenna was a Queen, then I was her mother. I stared straight into Daenna’s eyes with no fear.
“I never wanted to mess with anyone else,” I responded.
“Then why are you flirting with Sun?” Daenna asked, looking more hostile. Did she hate me because of Sun?
"I never flirted with him.”
“Liar. I saw you in front of the campus on Tuesday morning!” she hissed.
That was the day Sun put his arms around my shoulders to threaten me into becoming his slave! So, she wasn’t the only person who arrived late that day.
“And you saw me flirt with Sun?” I reckoned. Daenna couldn’t answer back because it was clearly Sun who did the flirting and not I!
“Who flirted with who?”
We all turned to the door to see who asked that.
“S-sun!” Daenna gasped. Her face turned pale from obvious shock.
“Am I a flirt?” I bravely asked Sun.
With a boyish grin, Sun noded. “Yes, you are such a flirt,” he replied.
I rolled my eyes. “Yeah right, whatever.”
Sun laughed and then walked towards me. “Here’s your juice, moonpie.”
I saw more hatred in Daenna’s eyes. Sun didn’t have to say it, but he clearly treated Daenna’s attempt to intimidate me as irrelevant, which made Daenna hate me more.
Daenna and her g**g must have watched a lot of cliché movies where heroines cry and tremble from fear after being bullied like what they did to me. Unfortunately, I was raised to be a warrior and a Queen at the same time.
I saw something foreign in Sun’s eyes. Was it appreciation? Somehow, knowing Sun appreciated my courage made me feel warm. Most of the time, I was regarded as a proud person because of my no-nonsense attitude.
Most people want girls to be ultimately timid and humble. And because I got a huge fanbase on YouTube, they see me as someone arrogant.
I heard a few giggles from our other classmates, too. Aside from Sun, some of them seemed pleased because of how I responded to their intimidation.
Daenna hated it, so she angrily stood up and walked out the door. Her minions threw me a blazing glare before following their master.
I shook my head. At times like this, I kind of missed Crystal’s presence. My best friend would’ve made Daenna cry, as she was more savage than I am.
“Wow! You are so cool, Moon!” Skylar beamed. But then, after a moment, she looked worried. “But you have to be careful. Daenna is really scary when she’s mad.”
“If somebody touched Moon, they’d have to deal me with,” said Sun. He opened a can of juice and gave it to me.
I frowned. “What are you talking about?”
“Take my word for it, moonpie. If anybody dared to touch you, they’d regret it for the rest of their lives.”
His words struck me—so deep it penetrated my heart. His words felt so warm that it made my cheeks blush. His eyes told me it was real, but his grin made me confused. Was he playing with my feelings again?
"I t-think I need to go to the restroom,” Skylar whispered.
And then, she suddenly disappeared. Sun shrugged. I blinked. And then I grabbed the can of juice and drank it—almost in just one go.
What the heck? Why was Sun flirting with me in front of other people?
