Chapter 3 – Darius’s POV
I wake up to the sun shining through the curtains, making a square of light fall on the duvet. A feeling of excitement takes over my body as soon as I think back to the plans I made before going to bed: today, I will finally start to build a relationship with my beautiful mate.
On my walk to the kitchen, I start to think of ways to approach her. I don’t even know her name. I have just been calling her ‘my mate’.
Haleigh and Killian are sitting on the kitchen counter, waiting for breakfast, while talking happily. I wave to them while walking up to one of the chefs. I ask them for one extra plait.
That question makes them look at each other with confused looks in their eyes. But because I am the future king of wolves, they do as I say. After the weird request to chefs, I decide to join my sister and beta to ask them for advice, since my parents are traveling around the world to visit all the packs.
When I arrive in the kitchen, Killian and Haleigh are still sitting on the same place. They motion for me to come over.
“So, have you spoken to her yet? And when will I be able to speak to her?” Asks Haleigh.
I answer her with a disappointed look on my face: “No I haven’t talked to her yet, I don’t even know if she’ll let me after how rude I was to her yesterday. And you can talk to her when she and I have developed a bit more of a relationship.”
Haleigh nods in understanding.
“Right, before I forget. Do you have any advice for me?”
My beta and my sister look at each other before answering my question. It already know that my sister won’t have any tips for me. Which is understandable, because she hasn’t met her mate yet.
But Killian does give me some advice. “I think it’s best if you just act like yourself. She has to love YOU. It has to be YOU she’s talking with. And I know for sure that the mate bond is going to help you as well.”
I nod and walk over to the kitchen counter to get my mates and my breakfast. I try my best not to spill anything. Which is really hard with shaking hands from fear.
I halt when I reach the door my mate is behind. It take me a lot of positive thinking and a few deep breaths to work up the courage to take the tray with food in one shaking hand and nock on the door with my other hand.
“Come in.” Her melodic voice says from inside the room. It sounds a bit like she just woke up, and I didn’t think it was possible, but it feels even more pleasant to listen to.
After a few moments I hear her voice again: “Hello, is someone there?” I completely forgot that I was supposed to enter the room. My left, free hand reaches into my pocket to grab the key that can open the door.
As I walk inside, I almost drop the tray of food when I see her sitting on the bed, still in the hospital gown. She sends a beautiful smile my way that almost makes my knees buckle. She looks breathtakingly beautiful. After about a minute of silence, my mate starts using her angelic voice again.
“Are you alright Darius?” I don’t answer her and just look at her dumbfounded. How can someone be this perfect? What have I done to deserve her?
I shake my head to get it back to reality. A slight blush tinting my cheeks. I look at her again. My mouth starts to move but my voice won’t come out for a few seconds. My mate giggles shyly at my actions. It is a beautiful sight to see.
And, after a few embarrassing moments my voice finally decides that I have had enough embarrassing time in front of my mate for today and starts working again: “I… Ehm, what’s your name?”
It might not have come out completely fluent, but I finally asked the question I wanted to ask her since I met her.
My mate looks down to her lap and she almost whispers her answer to my question: “Lavender.”
That’s a beautiful name for a beautiful girl, I think to myself. Lavenders, as in the flower, tend to have a very distinct, but delicious and fresh, smell to them. They are also brightly coloured and really beautiful. Whoever chose her name, did a very good job.
I walk over to her, while asking her if she wants to have the breakfast I brought with me. She nods and I sit down next to her on the bed.
I give her the tray to eat from while I just take a plate and a knife and fork.
Whilst eating I apologise for the way I acted yesterday and we start a pretty fun conversation about anything and everything. Like how she lost her memories and how she ended up in the hospital.
What I didn’t tell her, was that I was the one who saved her from the shadow. I know she is a werewolf, but she might not know that herself, since it’s clear that she doesn’t communicate with her wolf, ever. I just tell her that I found her on the foot of and hill with a huge wound on her head.
As I say that, I see her hand move up to feel the wound, which already has completely disappeared. She looks up at me with a cute, confused look on her face.
I just tell her that the people at the hospital made it heal really fast, but to be completely honest, I don’t know how a wound like that could heal that fast.
I think back to when I came to pick her up from the hospital. Back then, the wound on her head had already healed. Maybe it had to deal with the surgeon. I don’t tell her that, because I’m not sure if that’s a 100% true.
As breakfast comes to an end I point to a door on our left, the bathroom. “If you want to, you can freshen yourself up there. And in 20 minutes, I’ll can send my sister over to help you find some clothes.”
Lavender nods and mumbles a humble ‘thank you’ in appreciation. I also tell her that she can leave the room this time if she feels like it. Which makes her flash her beautiful smile at me again.
I swear, I can’t get enough of her smile and her presence in general. It feels sad when I have to leave her to continue the business trip I was on online. Before I leave, I take her hand and plant a soft kiss on the back of her hand, pick up the plates and tray and walk towards the door. As I walk through the door, I look back at her one time and wink at her.
She looks away shyly, with an small smile on her face. It makes me smile as well as I close the door.
While walking through the halls, back to the kitchen, I let out a deep sigh. Talking to her was way easier than I thought it would be. I went natural, even though I embarrassed massively at the start. Her laugh made me feel comforted and loved.
After delivering the plates back to the chefs in the kitchen, I go to look for Haleigh.
Knowing her schedule, I walk to the backyard, where she is practicing her fighting skills. I walk up to her and tell her what I told my mate.
She also agrees with me about Lavender being a pretty name. I leave her alone to finish her training and go to my office to finish my own work.
Lavender’s POV
I did not expect that attitude change.
I had just woken up from a really relaxing night of sleep when he came in with a tray of delicious smelling breakfast.
The first few minutes where extremely awkward, but not in a bad way. I could sense how nervous he was by the way he almost dropped the tray and stumble over his words. And I must say that it affected my mood as well. The cute smile he kept sending my way made my intestines all fluttery.
I don’t know if he noticed, but there where even moments I felt my face heat up.
When we where a bit more comfortable with each other, he sat down next to me. And while I was eating he and I started a conversation about my memories.
He told me about the surgeon and how he found me in the forest. He didn’t tell me why he was so set on bringing me with him though, which was a bit suspicious, because that meant he didn’t tell me the full story. I did decide not to make too big of a deal out of it. Trusting him to tell me when he felt like it.
Darius also informed me about his plans on taking the tray back with him and giving me some time to shower and get ready before he would send his sister to help finding me some clothes. Which I think was really thoughtful.
As soon as he left, I felt a cold shiver run down my spine. I don’t know why, but him leaving me alone, made me feel cold and a little bit disappointed and sad.
Now, I’m standing in front of the mirror above the sink in the bathroom, doing my hair. I just finished showering and found a hairbrush in one of the drawers underneath the sink.
As I’m brushing my hair, I can hear a knock on the door and the voice of the woman I heard before. She must be Darius’ sister. I wrap a towel around my body and go to open the door. Darius’ sister introduces herself as Haleigh, and drags me to the walk in closet.
“OMG, I’ve wanted to meet you ever since you arrived yesterday. I can feel that you and I will be good friends. I’ve always wanted a best friend. We are gonna have SO MUCH FUN! I can feel it!” She squeals while scanning through the enormous amount of clothes. I just stand there, awkwardly holding my towel in place and staring at my feet.
Haleigh turns back to me and hands me a pile of clothes. “Go on, see if these fit.” She says, pointing to the bathroom. I nod and take the pile of clothes to the bathroom.
When I’m in the bathroom, I take the time to first look at the clothes to see what Haleigh put in my hands to try on.
It’s a simple, light blue t-shirt, some black shorts and simple underwear. They’re simple, but they fit me perfectly.
As I step out of the bathroom, Haleigh gasps. “Wow, your figure is great. Next time I get to help you with your clothes, I’m gonna be a bit more daring, so be prepared.”
She flings an arm around my shoulder and pulls me with her outside the bedroom. All the way to the living room she keeps talking to me about nothing special in particular and I can feel myself zoning out a little bit.
That is, until I hear another voice joining Haleigh’s. It’s a males voice, but not Darius’.
When I look over to see who is talking to Haleigh, I see a man with dark brown hair, tied up in a small ponytail on the back of his head. His eyes are really dark brown, almost black. And he has beautiful tanned skin.
After a few seconds of staring at him, he notices me. “Hey, you must be Lavender. I’m Killian. It’s good to meet you.” He says while extending his hand to me.
I really enjoy the energy he sends out and immediately extend my hand as well to shake his. The smile he sends my way, is really bright and almost contagious.
“I hope Haleigh didn’t melt your ears off with the amount of talking she usually does.” Killian says while giving Haleigh a blaming look.
Haleigh rolls her eyes at that statement and lets go of my shoulder. “I think you should visit Darius in his office.” She tells me. “He probably wants to know how you’re doing now that you finally left the bedroom.”
“Alright I’ll go visit him then.” I say while walking away from them. Because of the weird vision I had when sleeping, I already knew where his office was. Killian and Haleigh didn’t know that and looked at me with a questioning look on their face.
“I’ll find it on my own. Don’t worry.” I tell them. Killian’s brows raise up, but both leave me alone about it.
As I walk up the stairs, I start to think about what I should say to Darius. This must be what he felt like when he came to me with breakfast this morning.
The first thing I see when I open the door to Darius’ office are a few huge paintings on the walls on the left and right side of the room. Two on the left and one on the right. On the right also stood a chest. The enormous desk Darius is sitting on stands in the middle of the room.
He is almost aggressively typing on his laptop. Well he was. As soon as he sees me he stands up from his desk and walks my way.
“Hey, it’s good to see you out and about. How are you doing now?” He asks me while sending me a breath taking smile.
I notice my body’s reaction to his smile. It’s a different kind of reaction to Killian’s smile. Darius’ smile makes me feel giddy and a small shiver down my spine. While Killian’s friendly smile is just a super contagious smile that makes me want to smile as well. And I don’t know how it’s possible, but as soon as I smile, Darius’ smile becomes even wider.
After a few seconds of just smiling at each other, I remember that he asked me a question. “Yeah, I’m doing great. Thank you.”
“Alright, that’s good to hear. Now that you’re awake, I won’t lock you up in your room. My house is your house now as well. At least till you get your memories back.” He says. I can see loads of emotions swirling in his eyes.
They say that the eyes are the portal to someone’s soul. That they can reflect what a person’s true feelings are. And looking at his eyes, I can certainly see the truth to those sayings.
I can see sadness, happiness, something that looks like worry and even some emotions that I can’t quite identify.
Identifiable or not, they’re there and they’re true. That’s for sure.
“I’m very thankful for the kindness you have shown me the last few days. But why?” I ask him.
His brows frown in a questioning way. As if he didn’t even know why he was helping me. I can almost see the radars turning in his brain. Eventually, after having thought hard about it his answer is: “I don’t know. I just feel the need to help people.”
This answer really makes think.
Is he hiding something from me?
And if yes, what?
Will I ever get my memories back?
I can't think of a good response, so I just nod and leave his office. But I can still feel his eyes looking at me as I'm leaving his office.
I really don't know what to think of this mysterious man.
