Chapter 6 – Lavender’s POV I go to sit in the car while Haleigh and Darius try to fit all the shopping bags in the back of the car. As I sit there waiting for them to join me, I put the unidentified package the woman gave me in my back pocket. It’s small and flat enough to fit in there without any problems. I am literally aching to see what’s inside. Maybe it’s something from my past. Maybe she knows who I used to be before I lost my memories. She also not to show it to ‘her’. Who she meant exactly? No idea! Which doesn’t really sit right with me. How could I possibly hide something from someone I don’t even know? Or maybe, I used to know them, but the women didn’t know I lost my memories. “HELLO?? ARE YOU HERE?” I hear someone saying. As my eyes focus back I notice that we’ve already arrived back at the house. Haleigh and Darius are waving their hands in front of my face. I look at them questioningly, but they just nod to each other and leave the car. I follow them out of and to the back of the car, where Haleigh pushes a few bag in my hands and motions for me to bring them inside. She tells me to put them in my room.   That’s perfect, I can also put the package given to me by the old lady away as well.   I think while walking to my room. We must have been shopping for a very long time, because it had already started to turn dark when we arrived back at the mansion. And while looking on the clock, Darius decided that it was almost time to eat dinner. He told me he would come to get me when food was ready, and went to discuss a few things in private with Killian. I still don’t know if I can trust him. But I also know, that if I always keep thinking like this, I’ll never trust him.   Right now, I’m sitting on my bed, in my room with the small package the lady gave me in my hands and with the book I found in the library in front of me. I open the package, and inside I find an adorable, small key. I try to think of things the lady would want me to do with it. Still holding the key, I pull the book towards me and open it on my lap. Only to find out that it’s not even a real book. Well, it is a book, but all the pages are stuck together and there is a massive hole cut through all the pages, leaving only half an inch of the pages on the outside. Fitting in the hole, is a box with the matching lock of the key. My heart starts beating faster.   How did the lady know?   Was it even a good idea to allow Darius to bring me here?   Before I can open the box, there is a knock on the door. I shove the book and the key under the bed as fast as I can and walk to the door. Standing outside is Darius. He smiles at me. “Food is ready, you coming?” I nod and follow him downstairs. Haleigh and Killian are already there and wave at me as soon as they see me. I awkwardly wave back as I take my place on the table, next to Darius. The food was good, but all I could focus on were the key and the book under my bed. They seemed to belong together. What could that mean? I feel the panic in my body searing and the cold sweat on my back dripping down. I really don’t like what’s happening around me. I’ve lost my memories and the first thing to happen to me after that, was being taken to a guy’s house who I don’t even know. Not that he is not nice to me. So far he has been really nice and really tried to make me feel at home. But I just know that he is hiding something. I can somehow feel it when he is being dishonest with me. I wish I would also feel what the truth was. But that’s not the case. I still don’t know what to make of Haleigh, she’s enthusiastic, loud and a overall a very nice person, but she is Darius’ sister so I don’t know if I can trust her. I haven’t really talked to Killian enough to get to know what he’s like. But, like the others, he hasn’t done anything bad to me yet, so we’ll see. … I feel someone shaking my arm. “Hello, can you hear me? Lavender, are you alright? Do you need anything?” I shake my head, forcing myself to focus on the here and now. Looking around, I can see that Haleigh, Darius and Killian’s expressions have changed from happy to concerned. Especially Darius looks worried. I just nod my head. “Yeah, I’m alright. I just zoned out, that’s all.” That answer seems to satisfy Haleigh and Killian. But not Darius. He is still looking at me with fear in his eyes. “You might not want to tell me, Lavender. But I know that you have something on your mind. If there’s anything I can help you with, just tell me, okay?” I nod again and decide to focus my attention on my food, which I haven’t even touched yet. The questions are still racing through my mind. Each and every one trying to make themselves visible to me. It’s making my head ache, but I try not to let it show. Since I don’t want to worry Darius and keep him off his food like I did before. While all the thoughts are running wild in my head, Haleigh and Killian are having a, rather loud, conversation of some sorts, that I also try to listen to. But it’s hard. I start to feel slightly nauseous. Everything starts to spin in front of me. I push my plate of food away. I put my forehead on the table, my elbows next to it. And I fold my hands together at the back of my head to try and make the feeling stop. But it doesn’t. It only gets worse. Not just everything around me looks like it’s spinning, but now I also feel like I’m spinning myself. I shut my eyes tightly and try to block out all the sounds around me in an effort to make everything stop spacing out. I can still slightly hear a few worried and panicking voices around me, but what they’re saying isn’t clear anymore. I can feel my consciousness start to slip away.   ************************* Again, I’m standing in a room. Lit by nothing but a single candle, which is standing next to a mirror. Out of pure curiosity, I walk closer to the mirror. But where I’m supposed to see myself, I see the little girl again. She gives me the most wonderful smile. It’s so contagious, that I feel my own mouth corners slightly pull up. Just like last time, we stand there, staring at each other for some time. The silence between us isn’t an uneasy one. It’s rather one of trust and happiness. Even though, I can’t remember her. After I don’t know how long, I can hear a voice outside the room I’m standing in. It’s the voice from the guy with the white hair I saw in my last dream. “And so, we meet again Lavender. I just can’t express to you how happy I am to be able to communicate with you again, after everything that has happened”. The door opens and in the opening, stands the tall figure of the man with the white hair. Though, right now it might be better to describe him as the man with the light blue eyes, as he is wearing a hood which hides his beautiful white hair. His eyes look  like they’re alight. That’s how bright they are. He closes the door behind him and turns on the light in the room. Now that I can fully see everything in the room, I can see, that I’m standing in my own bedroom, in Darius’ house. As I look back around to see the girl, I notice that she is gone, together with the entire mirror. It’s almost like she was never there. But I know that not to be true, because I’ve seen her. I’m sure of that. The guy puts one of his hands on one of my shoulders and turns me around so I’m facing him again. His eyes look like they’re staring right through me, into my soul. He starts to speak again. “I’m sorry for making you feel so nauseous. But it was the only way to get through to you. I have to tell you this.” “Wait, so you’re the one that made me feel so bad? Why?” I ask. “I swear, I have a good reason. But telling you like this, might not be a good idea. You must come to me as soon as you possible can. It will also immediately be a good opportunity for you to get your memories back.” I look at him with questioning eyes. “What are you talking about?” “The book under your bed and the key. They’re the answer to all your questions”, he says. He puts his other hand on my other shoulder and squeezes them softly. Then, he lets my shoulders go. And as soon as he does, I can feel myself waking up again.   ************************* I open my eyes, but have to close them again immediately because of the bright light that shines directly in them. This time I open my eyes again, but much slower, so my eyes can adjust the light a lot better. As I look around, I can see that I’m lying in the bedroom given to me by Darius. Speaking about Darius, he is sitting right next to me. He must have taken one of the chairs from the dining table from downstairs and waited next to me for me to wake up. I don’t know how long I’ve been asleep, but it’s been too long for him to stay awake. I crawl over the bed to him and poke his left cheek. His skin is really nice and soft. I cup his face on my left hand which makes him pull a small smile. He should smile more often, it’s actually pretty cute. “Hey, Darius, wake up!” I whisper. He opens his eyes and looks at me. As soon as he sees me, his smile gets even wider. “Hey, how are you doing now?” “I’m doing much better. Thank you for asking.” “Alright. That’s good. What happened to you yesterday?” I don’t know if he’ll believe me when I tell him about my dream and the guy that spoke to me. So it might just be best if I don’t tell him at all. “It might have something to do with the loss of my memories. It might have affected my brain in some way.” He nods, seeming satisfied with that answer. “Okay, ehm… next time you start to feel dizzy, just  tell me.” After having said that, he leaves the room. As soon as he closes the door, I remember the key and the book that I hid under the bed earlier. I look at the clock: 6 am. I have been asleep for almost twelve hours straight. I get the book and the key from under the bed and open the box which was hiding the book. Inside the book is another key. This one is much more modern looking. I hide the keys back under the bed and sneak to the library to put the book back, hoping nobody even noticed that it was gone for a while. When back in my room, I notice I’m still wearing yesterday’s clothes, so I switch them with a few of the clothes that we bought yesterday.   While doing that, I can feel my tummy rumble. It’s clearly telling me it wants breakfast, so I decide to look for something to eat downstairs. As I approach the kitchen, I can hear a voice behind me: “HEY, Lavender! You fainted yesterday. How are you doing now? I hope you’re doing better. Darius already told me you had woken up. Have I already asked you if you were feeling better? I don’t think I did. So I’ll ask you now: How are you doing?” “Ehm, good.” I answer. It came out more like a question, but Haleigh didn’t even notice. As soon as she is close enough to do so, she pulls me in a big hug, which is so tight that I am almost unable to suck in any air anymore. “Haleigh, we don’t want pour Lavender to faint again, now do we?” Asks Killian as he walks up to us. Haleigh lets me go immediately. “I wasn’t being that harsh. I would never. And you know that!” Killian doesn’t even answer her. He just pulls his right brow up. Haleigh reacts by rolling her eyes and walks off. “Sorry if she made you feel like fainting again. She’s done it to all of us. She was really worried about you” I just nod and enter the kitchen. Darius is already there talking with one of the staff members while waiting for food. He signals me to join them and puts an arm around my shoulder when I’m standing next to him. He smiles while looking down at me. The tingles I feel in my shoulders where he touches me are making me slightly lightheaded, but in a good way. I look up at him and send a genuine smile his way. He squeezes me shoulder and looks back to the maid he was talking to before I entered the kitchen. “Alright, where were we?” he asks her. She looks down while replying: “Ehm, you were asking about the library sir.” Even though it was probably not her intention to make me feel this way, by hearing her talk about the library, I start to feel a little bit uncomfortable.   Do they know I’ve been there?   How would they have known it was me?   Have they found the book under my bed when I wasn’t there?   Are they hiding information from me?   I start to panic. My whole body stiffens up and my knees start to buckle. Darius must have noticed my change in posture and immediately let’s go of my shoulders. I don’t know if that was the smartest thing for him to do at that moment, because his arm that was draped around my shoulders, was the only thing that kept me from falling. Unfortunately, I realise that too late and I can feel my legs giving out under me. Darius quickly catches me. Wow, this man has reflexes! Holy mother of… “Alright calm down. I don’t want you to faint again.” He says while putting me back on my feet. Not knowing what I should say to him, I just nod as an answer. He holds onto my waist a bit longer to make sure I am stable and then he lets me go. “You know what, You go and sit at the dining table, I’ll wait here till breakfast is ready, and I’ll bring it to you.” He says. Still unable to speak I nod again, and make my way to the dining room. Haleigh and Killian are already there, having a pretty wild argument about salads and woodwind instruments or something. I go to sit on the spot where I sat yesterday before I fainted and wait till Darius comes to join me with breakfast. Killian and Haleigh’s argument is so heated that they don’t even know I’m in the room with them. I look at them from the other side of the table. Killian is trying to explain something to Haleigh while she just sighs and rolls her eyes. Rolling her eyes seems to be a habit of hers. Seeing them having such an argument is actually kind of fun to watch. The way they both start using hand gestures when they to explain something to the other person and the other person not even listening, but just going straight against them, just because they can. After a few minutes of arguing the door opens and Darius walks in with breakfast for himself and me. He smiles at me while walking over. I also noticed how Killian and Haleigh’s argument has stranded as soon as Darius had arrived. They immediately left the room when Darius sat down in the chair next to mine. He placed breakfast in front of me and gestured for me to start eating. As soon as I started, so did he. The pretty room was quiet, nobody was talking, all that was heard, were the sounds of silverware on plates and crunchy food being chewed. It wasn’t an uncomfortable silence though. While sitting there in silence with Darius, I felt like I had known him all my life. I secretly looked over at him. He seemed really deep in thought, so I decides to keep the silence between us, so he could think. He was so deep in thought that he didn’t even notice me staring at him. Without noticing it myself I just kept looking at him. There was just something that kept my vision drawn to him. While sitting there, looking at him, he looked even more handsome than he did before. And I didn’t even think that was possible. “Ehm, hello? Are you okay?” He aske me. With all the willpower I have I pull me eyes away from him I can see him smirking at me from the corner of my right eye. “You like what you saw?” He asks me. I just hit his arm. “Stop saying that, it’s not true.” I say, being well aware that it doesn’t sound very convincing. His light blue eyes are seeking to look in mine. It is as if he is forcing me to look at him. And not gonna lie, I actually don’t really mind it too much. I feel myself starting to trust him more and more every day. Which is weird because I can sense that there is still something about him that he’s not telling me. He just has a certain aura around him. It’s hard to describe. “Are you going to finish your breakfast?” He asks me, still with the smirk on his face. I blink my eyes a few times. “Yeah yeah, I am.” I say, still feeling slightly dazed by the attraction I suddenly feel towards him. He rubs my back, making me feel the mysterious tingling feeling again. “Good”, he says, ”wouldn’t want you to faint again.”
