Chapter 4; Retrospection, Marcy

596 Words
"Mom, can I play with Charlie and Lucas?" Marcy yelled from the other side of the room "Shh baby, they're sleeping but you can play with them tomorrow" "Okay, when will dad come home?" "Oh soon, he's just stuck in the traffic. Why don't you go to living room and turn on some cartoons while I make dinner?" "Okay" Her mom was well aware that her husband was gone for a while. Usually he would call her to let her know that he's going to be late. To add he was never this late and she was starting to worry. Time went on and it was already 8pm. They ate dinner quietly and after they ate Marcy went straight to bed. Her mother stayed awake hoping that her husband would get home soon. Anger washed over into extreme worry as the time passed. Around 11pm her phone finally rang. She picked up as fast as she could, not even looking at the call ID. "Hello, honey? Where are you?" her mom asked before the caller could even introduce themselves "Hello, we're calling from the hospital. Is this Mrs. Hoover I'm speaking to?" "Yes, yes. This is Mrs. Hoover. Did anything happen?" she asked already fearing the worst "I'm sorry Mrs. Hoover, your husband has been in a car accident. Sadly there was nothing we could do to save him." Upon hearing those words Mrs. Hoover couldn't even speak. Her tears couldn't be stopped. She couldn't believe what shes hearing. That couldn't be true. Not her husband, there must be some mistake. Baby's cry awoke her from the trance. She left the phone on the table. At this point she wasn't even sure if she can walk properly. Her world fell apart in the matter of seconds. She opened the door to the boys room. Her heart almost fell apart. How is she gonna take care of her children now? She calmed down the boys and she gained strength to call her mom. "Honey why are you calling me this late?" "Mom David died. I don't know what to do" she barely said those words as she cried out for help, her mom couldn't believe it "What? How? Your dad and I will come. Everything will be fine. Stay safe" her mom hung up the phone. She was left to herself. Time seemed to go by slower and slower and it didn't even seem like real life. In the matter of hours her parents were there. It was very early not even sun was up. There were tears shed at first. It grew to them deciding how to tell Marcy and deciding her parents were staying to help out around the house. All until Marcy woke up and came downstairs. "Grandpa!! Grandma!!" she ran to hug them, she didn't see them in a long time. "Where is daddy?" she asked as soon as they hugged out, the pain was very visible in her mother's eyes as she tried to stay strong for her little girl "Come here, daddy didn't come home yesterday. He went to angels" "Okay, can I watch the TV now?" "Yes sure just don't wake up your brothers" Her mom was shocked at the way she reacted. Without tears, without tantrums. She was too young to know what's going on and only later did she show the signs of grief and sadness. They went to therapy and they did everything they could to make children lifes as easy as they could be after the tragedy that has struck their life all of a sudden.
