Was that Ginny?
Lucia watched them suspiciously. She couldn't help but look at Mason's handsome face. When she met his deep, dark eyes, her heart grew bitter.
She bit down on her lip and turned her face.
Lucia waited until they entered the building before she went in, taking the elevator straight to the top floor to report to the secretary department.
"Everyone," her manager Nancy Ellis said to the office. "This is the new member of our team, Lucia."
"Hello, nice to meet you all," Lucia said with a smile. She gazed at her new colleagues, but her smile froze when she saw the woman who'd been with Mason just then. Confusion flashed past her eyes.
She was also a secretary here.
"Anya, she'll be reporting to you," Nancy called out.
"Okay." Anya Cook nodded.
"Lucia, you can take the spot by the door. You can ask me or the others if you have any questions." After giving out these instructions, Nancy returned to her private office.
As soon as Lucia sat down, Anya set a pile of documents down before her.
"Read all these documents today and send me a summary and analysis."
"Got it." Lucia smiled. After Anya left, she couldn't help but peer at the other secretaries around her.
There were 10 people in total in this spacious room. They were all beautiful in their own ways. Nancy was the professional type, and Anya was a traditional beauty. There were also tall and chic types, sweet and cute…
For some reason, Lucia felt bitter inside.
"Mason is so lucky to be surrounded by all these beauties all day! They are smart and pretty..." she thought. "No wonder he thinks I'm a trophy!"
"Hello, I'm Ginny," a sweet voice rang out behind her.
Ginny!
Lucia's heart skipped a beat. She turned around and saw a sweet, smiling face.
That was Ginny.
What did she have to do with Mason?!
"Hi," Lucia said, forcing a smile.
"Nice to meet you!" Ginny extended her hand.
"Nice to meet you," Lucia repeated. She reached over to shake Ginny's hand, but Ginny pulled back at the last second.
She looked up in confusion and sensed the thick animosity.
Ginny's smile had disappeared. She leaned over and whispered in Lucia's ear, "Mason is mine. I'll take him back from you again, just like last night!"
Her sweet voice dug into her ear like a snake, making Lucia's scalp tingle. She turned slowly and saw Ginny's sneer.
The woman scoffed and walked back to her seat, her hips swaying. Her flowery perfume still floated in the air.
Lucia sat dumbly at her spot. Her hands turned into fists under the desk.
She had no clue that there was a third person in her relationship with Mason.
Someone was bound to get hurt in a love triangle!
Ginny's unprovoked words distracted Lucia the entire day. She couldn't focus on Anya's documents at all.
When it was finally the end of the day, she put away the documents on her desk while peeking out the door. She hoped a certain person would appear.
She had worked on the same level as Mason the entire day but didn't get a single glance from him.
Instead of Mason, she saw… his mother-in-law, Bella Reynolds!
Bella was dressed from head to toe in luxury brands, and the white pearl necklace around her neck shimmered under the light.
She was in her fifties already, but she looked like she was in her early forties. She was graceful, elegant, and had a commanding presence.
Lucia panicked when she saw Bella. Thinking that Bella had come for her, she hurried to her feet and greeted her. "Hello, Mrs. Reynolds."
She was secretly married to Mason, so she had to refer to Bella formally in public.
But Bella strode past her without sparing her a glance and walked straight to Ginny.
"Aunt Bella, why didn't you tell me you're coming? I could've gone to pick you up!" Ginny gave a sweet smile and hooked an arm around Bella's elbow.
"It's alright. I just passed by," Bella said pleasantly. "Pack up and have dinner with me tonight."
"Sure." Ginny was still smiling like a good girl, but she shot a glance at Lucia.
Lucia turned away. She realized now why Ginny was so confident. She had the mother-in-law on her side!
At that moment, Mason came over as well. Someone must have notified him that his mom was visiting.
"Mom, how come you're here?"
When Mason and Bella stood together, Lucia realized that they were quite similar, especially their deep eyes and the proud air they had.
"I just passed by," Bella replied. Her eyes softened when she looked at Mason.
"Mason, I'm having dinner with Aunt Bella later. Will you come too?" Ginny asked, peering at Mason with her pretty eyes.
Mason frowned. He opened his mouth to reject the offer, but Bella's expression darkened. "What, you don't even have time to have dinner with your mother?" she complained. "You and your brother always forget about me! One spends all his time around other women, and the other is a workaholic!"
"Of course I have time!" Mason put an arm around Bella's shoulders and smiled. "What do you want to eat? I'll have my assistant make a reservation."
Bella finally smiled at this. "You don't have to do that," she said in a much better mood. "I already made the reservation."
Then she looked at Ginny.
"Let's go," she ordered like a noble queen.
Bella held her head high and walked toward the door. As she passed Lucia's side, she glanced at her coldly as if seeing a plastic bag on the side of the road.
Ginny followed behind her with a victorious smile, basking under the attention of everyone in the room.
Mason was the last in line. He walked past Lucia without looking at her, either.
This entire time, Lucia was like an unimportant outsider!
She watched them leave as a boulder settled in her stomach, making it hard to breathe.
She grew up in an unloving family, so she'd learned from a young age to decipher micro-expressions.
So, it was obvious that Bella didn't like her.
Bella's attitude and the way she looked at Lucia showed her annoyance.
But Lucia didn't understand. Was she that unlikable?
Why did so many people dislike her? Her parents didn't like her, Mason didn't like her, and now, even Bella didn't like her!
