Chapter 16 Cold War

1324 Words
Franko had always been loving and around Lucia all these years even though he knew clearly that Lucia only had Mason in her heart. He couldn't give up because the thought of leaving her broke his heart! When he finally made up his mind to fight for it, she told him that she was married! Franko almost wondered whether the fates conspired against him on purpose... His love for Lucia could only be buried in the bottom of his heart forever! He could only be her friend from now on... Half an hour later, the car stopped at the door of the villa. Franko got out of the car and walked to the other side to help Lucia out. "I'm fine. I can walk by myself." Lucia squirmed herself free from Franko's arms. She stumbled backward, tripped, and almost fell. "Be careful." Franko quickened to hold her and got her steady. He shook his head helplessly. "You can't even walk properly. Why are you still so stubborn?" "I'm okay. Relax." Lucia put on a childish smile. Her bright eyes half narrowed, and she waved at Franko. "Franko, thank you for driving me home. Drive safe when you go back. See you." Lucia said dully. "Are you sure that you are okay?" Lucia's wobbly steps worried Franko. "Yeah. If you don't believe it, I'll show you!" To prove that she was not drunk, Lucia hurried to the gate. After opening it, she turned back and waved her hand at Franko before walking into the villa. Franko looked at her back with adoring eyes until she closed the gate. Then he returned to his car and left. On the balcony on the second floor. A tall figure stood in the dark, his thin lips tightly pursed and his face livid. His sharp eyes fixed on the woman who was walking from the garden to the house. He saw everything at the gate. Hearing the footsteps from the stairs, he turned around and walked into the living room. Lucia got into the house but was only surrounded by darkness and desolation. She thought that Mason hadn't been home yet. She didn't bother to turn on the light and groped her way upstairs to her room in the dark. Unexpectedly, a dark shadow came over her! "Ah!" She screamed out in horror. All her drunkenness was gone. With the flick of the switch, the whole house was lit up. Mason stood in front of her in a commanding position. The light outlined the contour of his stone-like, gloomy face. His piercing eyes seemed to see through her and rip her apart. "You scare the hell out of me!" Lucia gently smoothed her chest, still in a state of shock. Her heart was thumping hard, and she cast an angry glance at Mason. A trace of shock flashed in Mason's cold eyes. His lips curved into a sneer. "A clear conscience is a sure card. What are you guilty of? Did you do something bad?" "Who says that I am guilty? Nonsense!" Lucia was still mad at him for he left her last night and ignored her in the company today. She was full of anger! She gave him a cold stare and walked past him to her room. When Lucia passed by him, Mason smelled the booze on her breath. He frowned slightly with a peevish look in his eyes. "Lucia, do you remember that you are married? Or you are a woman of easy virtue yourself? You just went to some bullshit dating club several days ago. Where did you go tonight? How dare you even took some man to our place? You can't live one day without a man by your side, can you?" He stared coldly at her back. There was a trace of jealousy, which he himself didn't even notice, in his contemptuous tone! Lucia's hand, reaching for the doorknob originally, paused in the air. Her heart was in great pain. She didn't care what others thought of her or said behind her back. But Mason's remarks always made her suffer. A few seconds later, Lucia withdrew her hand. She turned to Mason and stared into his eyes. "What about you? Who were you with last night? Ginny? Didn't you feel guilty that you left your wife by the roadside for another woman?" Lucia questioned back. "Huh. Nothing dirty is going on between Ginny and me." Mason gave her a cold reply. "So, are you saying that what I did, drinking some wine with my friends, is sordid? Mason, you are no better than me!" Lucia had been suppressing her anger for a whole day. At this moment, all her fury was ignited by Mason! After yelling at him, Lucia gave him a sullen glare and threw open the door. As soon as she took a step into her room, Mason's gloomy warning came behind her. "I don't care how loose you were before, but now you are one of our Reynolds. Remember to behave yourself everywhere you go. You'd better keep your nose clean and don't do anything that embarrasses our family. Otherwise, you can get lost forever!" Lucia halted for a moment. Her hands on her sides clenched tightly. She could hardly breathe freely. She turned her back to him and slammed the door. Seeing that Lucia gave him a cold shoulder, Mason was enraged, his face ghastly pale. Damn you! How can you vent your anger at me! You are the one who did the wrong thing! The next morning. Lucia opened her door just at the exact moment Mason walked out of his room. They met each other's eyes, and in the next second, they turned away at the same time. Mason gave Lucia a cold snort. And Lucia was full of resentment against him! Mason, with his long legs, took just several steps to the staircase and left Lucia behind. From this day on, the two of them weren't speaking to each other anymore. It seemed that they two were fighting in secret. Wherever they went, their house or the company, they kept a distance from the other side. After working hard all day, Lucia gathered together the documents on her desk and was about to get off work. Nancy came out of the office, stood in the middle of the secretary's office, and raised her voice. "I received notice just now. Mr. Murphy of the Neo-Cosmos has arrived here from San Francisco. Someone needs to pick him up." As soon as she finished speaking, all the secretaries averted their eyes and pretended to be busy with their jobs. Nancy turned to Ginny who had been responsible for the cooperation with the Neo-Cosmos Group. However, before Nancy opened her mouth, Ginny raised her chin with arrogance and refused without hesitation. "I can't. Madam Reynolds asked me to get a facial with her." Everyone in the secretary department knew that Ginny was close to Bella. So, Nancy dared not to contradict her. "Mina, you go." "Sorry. Nancy. Today is my father's birthday. Could you please allow me to go home tonight?" Mina put her hands together in a gesture of begging. "Neither can I. My mother is not feeling well these days. I have to go to the doctor with her later!" "I am free after work. But I am having my period. My belly has been aching all day!" "Anya, why do they seem so afraid of Mr. Murphy?" Lucia asked in a low voice, looking confused. After all these days at work, Lucia knew her colleagues were all outstanding and professional. She couldn't understand why they were so resistant to meet this Mr. Murphy like he was some devil from hell. "No. We are not afraid of him. Just he disgusts us! That Mr. Murphy is notorious for being lecherous and obscene. He often gropes and harasses women under the excuse of drunkenness." Anya answered under her breath.
