Chapter 2 Vinnie appeared at Alex's window, his eyes locked on hers with an urgent intensity. Alex, stepping out of the bathroom, tried to scream, but Vinnie super-speeded to her, covering her mouth with his hand. "Shh, I'm not going to hurt you," he whispered, his breath warm against her ear. "I'm trying to protect you from Ethan. He's the bad person, Alex. Not me." Alex's voice trembled as she tried to speak, her heart racing with fear. "Y-you're...you're going to protect me?" Vinnie nodded, his eyes sincere and pleading. "Just come with me, and I'll keep you safe. I promise." But before Alex could respond, a loud slam echoed from the door, making her jump. Then another. And another. The door burst open, and Ava, one of Ethan's pack members, entered, her eyes gleaming with a fierce intensity. Vinnie's eyes widened as he realized he was surrounded. Ethan entered, his pack following close behind, their eyes fixed on Alex with an unnerving hunger. Vinnie knew he had to act fast. With a swift glance at Alex, Vinnie fled, disappearing into the night with supernatural speed. Alex cried out, feeling abandoned and scared, as Ethan grasped her arm, his grip like a vice. "You're coming with me," he growled, dragging her out of the room. As they left, Alex caught a glimpse of Mrs. Jenkins, frozen in fear, unable to intervene. The orphanage, once a safe haven, now seemed vulnerable and exposed. Ethan's pack closed in, forming a tight circle around Alex, as they moved through the darkness. She stumbled, trying to keep up, her mind reeling with questions. What did they want from her? Why was Vinnie trying to protect her? The night seemed to stretch on forever, filled with the sound of footsteps and heavy breathing. Alex felt like a pawn in a supernatural game, with no idea of the rules or the outcome. Here is the continuation in the present tense: The next morning, Alex's eyes widen as she wakes up in a luxury room, unlike anything she has ever seen before. She walks downstairs, her heart still racing from the events of the previous night. Ethan and Isaac, his youngest beta, sit in the living room, deep in conversation. Ethan looks up as Alex approaches. "What do you need the money for?" Ethan asks Isaac, his expression serious. Isaac hesitates before speaking. "It's for my mom... her medications have increased... I need more money." Ethan sighs and hands Isaac a wad of cash. Isaac nods and quickly leaves the room. Alex's eyes narrow as she turns to Ethan. "What do you want from me?" she demands, trying to keep her voice steady. Ethan smiles, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "What are you?" Alex asks, her voice firm. Ethan's smile grows wider. "You mean, who am I?" Alex's anger flares. "I'm leaving, right now. And you won't stop me." Ethan shrugs, his hands still in his pockets. "Fine, you can leave." Alex is taken aback by his easy acquiescence. She turns to leave, but an invisible force pushes her back, and she falls. Ethan walks over to her, his movements fluid. He bends down and raises her face, his eyes locking onto hers. "You can't pass because you're not human," he says, his voice low. "You would have if you were human. But you're not." Alex's anger surges again. She stands up, ready to fight. "Tell me what you want from me!" Ethan walks over to the counter, his movements calm. He pours a cup of water and hands it to Alex. But Alex is beyond reason. She pushes the cup away, shattering the glass on the floor. "Let me go!" Ethan's eyes flash with anger, but he controls himself. "I can't tell you what you want to know... at least, not yet." Alex screams, her frustration boiling over. "Tell me now!" And then, something unexpected happens. Ethan flies across the room, propelled by the energy of Alex's anger. He crashes into the wall, his eyes widening in surprise. Alex looks at her hands and says, what did u do to me. Ethan stands up and walks towards her, saying "Why don't u have breakfast and change into something else then we can talk." As soon as Ethan reaches where Alex is, he flies across the room again, landing hard on the floor. He sits up, holding his nose, and says "Alright, stop torturing me now, it's enough." Alex's eyes are still blue, a sign of her powers surging out of control. Ethan looks up at her and says to himself "I know you're not doing it on purpose." Alex says "What's wrong with me?" her voice shaking with anger and frustration. Ethan, still sitting on the floor, looks up at her and says "If you would stop getting angry, I would tell you, but you won't even let me come close to you." Alex protests "I'm not doing anything! I swear!" Ethan's expression is a mix of concern and caution. "Yes, you are. You can't control it yet. Stop getting angry, you're too powerful, you're going to kill me." Alex's eyes slowly turn back to normal as she takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. Ethan gets up, cautiously approaching her. "Let me explain," Ethan says gently. "You're a Moon Child, born under a rare lunar eclipse. Your powers are tied to your emotions, especially your anger. When you get angry, your powers surge out of control." Alex listens intently, her eyes locked onto Ethan's. "You need to learn to control your powers," Ethan continues. "I can teach you, but you have to trust me." Alex says to herself, "I hope this is just a dream." Ethan's voice interrupts her thoughts, "You must be hungry, change into something else." Alex nods, still trying to process what's happening. She walks back upstairs, her feet heavy with uncertainty. She takes her bath, the warm water soothing her tense muscles. As she comes back downstairs, the aroma of food fills her senses, and her stomach growls in response. She eats to her full, trying to savor each bite. Then, Ethan takes her to the warehouse where the rest of the pack are training. The sound of growls and snarls fills the air, making Alex's heart race. Ethan's voice is calm, but firm, "You'll begin your training now." Alex nods, trying to hide her fear. Ethan calls Ava, "the weirdest in the pack," and then tells Alex to push Ava, just the way she pushed him. Alex hesitates, "But I didn't do it before." Ethan's expression is unreadable as he sits and lights a cigarette, "You did, and you'll do it again. And every time you fail, Ava's gonna hit you." Alex stands there, her heart pounding in her chest. Ava stands in front of her, a mischievous glint in her eye. Alex raises her hand, trying to push Ava, but nothing happens. Ava grabs Alex and throws her across the room, her body slamming into the concrete floor. Alex stands up, trying again, but still, nothing happens. Ava hits her, making her fall back to the ground. This goes on for what feels like an eternity, with Alex getting more and more frustrated. She's determined to master her powers, but it seems impossible. Her body aches from Ava's hits, but she refuses to give up. Finally, after what feels like hours, Alex's anger boils over. She screams, "Enough!" and Ava flies across the room, hitting the wall with a loud thud. Alex rushes to Ava's side, panic setting in as she realizes what she's done. Ava's nose is bleeding, and she's unconscious. As Ava wakes up, she pushes Alex away and walks towards an empty bus, leaving Alex feeling defeated and ashamed. Alex looks at Ethan, tears in her eyes, "I don't want this. I don't want to hurt people."
