Chapter 6 Al’s right, it has been a long day. I’m more exhausted than I thought possible. In the passenger seat, I close my eyes and let the rhythm of the road and the radio playing low lull me to sleep. I think of Tomas, the way he looked back at me the last time I saw him, racing across base in the early dawn, a hint of a smile on his face and love shining in his eyes. I hope he’s somewhere safe, unhurt and waiting for me. I hope he’s laying somewhere underneath the same stars that shine down on me through the windshield, and I hope he’s dreaming of me.
