Second chance

I woke up on my eighteenth birthday with a hopeful smile today I will be able to find my mate. It was not a guarantee that I would find my mate on the same day, my older sister is twenty and hasn’t found her mate yet but regardless I was hopeful. The moon goddess heard me as I mated with Joey, he is a warrior in my pack and I was over the moon, I was so happy I couldn’t wait to share the news with my family and as expected my parents were happy but Nicolette my sister who goes by Lottie was not so happy, she seemed resentful even which was surprising to me as I would have been happy for her, if the roles were reversed. I’m sure she would have rejected a mate like Joey, my sister is ambitious she wants power and a mere warrior like Joey wouldn’t be good enough for her. We are unranked wolves but that has never stopped my sister from aiming for the Luna position. In fact as it is she is banned from the pack house as she had had her sights on our Alpha who is a few years older than both of us, him finding his mate had not stopped my sister from pursuing him she had been given two choices stay away from the pack house or being banished from the pack. Being banned from the pack house was a hundred times better than being banned from the pack. Which brings me back to now, why would she be jealous of me mating to Joey. I pushed he thought aside as I focused on my happiness, we had gone to his parents to tell them about our bond as we had done with my parents and they were very happy and later we had to go to the pack house to formally notify our alpha and Luna about our mating. They were happy for us and would provide one of the houses for the new mated couples and we readily agreed. I was sad to be away from Joey as I went home to pack my belongings but happy at the same time to be moving in with my my mate, my other half. In the middle of packing Lottie came “so Amber are you that excited to go stay with your loser mate?” she asked with a condescending tone in her voice “What’s your problem Lottie?” I asked “Nothing just surprised how you could be accepting of such a bond, it’s pitiful really” she had said now picking at my clothes I was packing as if they were disgusting “Leave me alone Lottie” I had simply said not understanding why my sister and I never seemed to get along. Three months after my mating there was a visiting alpha and his son at the pack house and Lottie had nearly breached her agreement about not going to the pack house just to get get a glimpse of the visitors. Lucky for her the visitors had been stepping out of the pack house to be shown around the pack and even luckier for her it had turned out the alpha’s son was her mate, Lottie had been happy smugly so. The news had been received with tight smiles from the alpha family and I was happy for her but felt sorry for her mate, my parents were concerned rather than happy as we all knew the kind of person she is and being mated to such a higher ranking person she would probably cause a lot of trouble. Lottie had proudly told us we were jealous she was even smug about it to the alpha family and had left with her mate and his father. Kai his mate was happy and found no fault in his mate but his father seemed upset as he had quickly seen the kind of person my sister was but had quietly let his son accept his mate. When Lottie had reached blood moon pack and discovered her mate was not the alpha but the alpha’s young brother she was not happy. Cullen, Kai’s older brother was not mated yet and Lottie had quickly tried to get Cullen to be her mate which had brought shame not only to us as her family but the whole pack. Somehow Kai had forgiven her and she quickly became pregnant for him. As for me and Joey we were happy, we are still very young and we had decided to hold off on having kids. Life was simple for us, Joey was a dedicated warrior while I had gotten a job teaching young children. I had loved every minute of my job as I loved children, I was looking forward to the future when we would have our own children. I would come everyday from work and prepare a simple meal sometimes when Joey came home before me he would prepare a meal for us we would barely watch tv after as we couldn’t get our hands off each other. I was blissfully happy until one day there was a rouge attack, we had been cuddling on the couch when the alert came and Joey had kissed my forehead, asked me to be safe and rushed out to defend our pack, most houses had bunkers to hide but mine being a temporary home for newly mated wolves didn’t so I rushed to the pack house as it was near and quickly linked my parents to check if they were safe, they had told me they were and to get to the pack house as I had let them know I was at my place.
