The money, all of it was gone, where did she want to start up from?
It hurt her so bad to think that he had used up all her life's savings without even letting her know of it.
Now her mother was lying sick at home badly in need of a surgery to be carried out.
She visualised her mother lying on her back, having difficulties in moving now in the hospital.
She cried silently as she went back home and when she got home, she froze at what she saw.
Tom was talking with the caretaker, he was almost pleading with him.
Her eyes dropped to the floor as she saw all their luggages outside the apartment, a uniformed security was bringing out the last of their things and locking the door with a very big padlock.
Amanda ran to them, her heart pounding madly against the walls of her chest.
Tom turned to see her,he was thankful she had come right in time.
“Amanda. Thank God you're here. We're being sent out of the house,"He told her.
The caretaker busied himself with signing some things on the notepad he held, his reading glasses resting on the bridge of his nose as he peered into it.
"Mr. Patrick, what's happening? You gave us two days."Amanda asked him confused,"Why are you taking our things out?"
He looked up at her, "I'm sorry, miss Robinson but I'm only acting under the instructions of the land lord"
"This is not fair, he can't do this. He gave us two days, please, give us some time "Amanda begged
"I'm afraid there's nothing I can do, Mr Forte already gave out the other for you and your family to move out of his apartment today"He said.
Amanda exchanged puzzled glances with Tom. Did he just say Mr Forte? She looked back at him still confused.
"Mr Forte?"She asked
How could she not have known before now that the house had belonged to him?
She feared the worst was gradually starting to happen.
"Yes, he's the owner of all the houses in the estate including this one,"He said, then pushed up his glasses,"Excuse me"
Amanda and Tom watched him and the security man walked away with the keys into a lorry, driving off.
"What do we do, Amanda? Where do we go from here?" Tom asked her,his voice shaking.
Amanda knew why he had done this, she knew why he had suddenly thrown their things out.
It was because she had rejected his offer, Amanda cried silently as she sat on the pavement.
What step do she take now?She knew Samuel wouldn't stop until he had taken away everything from them,he wouldn't stop until she had accepted his offer.
But she loved Mark, she still believed in their love. He had promised her that when he had gathered enough money he would get married to her.
She wasn't going to call off her wedding with Mark just because of Samuel's threats .
Tom watched her as she looked into the distance, her eyes clouded with tears.
But what does she do now?
—------------------------
Amanda got down from the taxi in front of Mark's apartment, her eyes were heavy with all the tears that had flown out.
She had thought of going to meet him as she knew he'd be back from work.
She was going to beg him to accommodate her and her brother until they sought things out.
The door was slightly open and she pushed it open, surprised and stepped into his sitting room.
She knew Mark was not as careless as to leave his door open .
But then she saw clothes on the floor, she recognised the shirt and trousers Mark had worn earlier and then her eyes slid to another cloth...a female dress.
She slowly went up to his room and her mouth fell open at what she saw.
Tears poured down her eyes as she saw Mark in the tangled sheets of his bed.
Her eyes moved to the lady underneath him and her eyes widened, she almost fell from the shock.
"Gina ?"She called in disbelief.
Amanda would never have believed that Gina, Mark's supposed cousin, was actually having an affair with her fiancé…he had lied about who she was.
Gina hid her face while Mark looked as surprised to see her as she was to see him.
"Amanda…I'm sorry,"He said
"You bastard,"Amanda spat, crying,"How dare you do this to me, sleeping with a girl you called your cousin. All this was a lie, right?"
"I'm sorry. I didn't know how to tell you."He begged
"For how long, Mark, how long did you plan on deceiving me?"She yelled,"I guess she was the business you squandered my money on right?...right?"
"Amanda—"
Tears poured down her eyes and she forcefully took off his ring , throwing it at him.
"Do what you want."he said "She's pregnant for me so I don't think this marriage can work in the first place."
Amanda felt those words hit her like a physical blow, her chest tightened in pain as Mark turned around and went back into the room.
With that Amanda turned, running out of the house, she kept running across the street crying as she did.
The sun had pulled into the sky, welcoming dusk.Amanda tripped in her steps and fell on the floor.
Amanda hugged herself tightly. She had never felt so shattered in her life. She thought of all the minutes she had spent, waiting that one day she would at last be married to Mark.
She had been such a fool, for going out with a guy for four years, and now it was she who’d been pressuring him to make things work. She’d been stupid too, to have missed all the screaming red flags from a mile away.
Amanda was so broken, devastated, used. Her heart had been broken and she wept into her hands.
Then she slowly lifted her head, the rim of her eyes red. She sighed.
She wiped off her face and sniffed— there was just one thing she could do.
