Amanda trudged along the road, lost in thought when her phone rang, she promptly blinked away her tears and took out her phone from her bag.
“Hello.” she said in a tremulous voice.
From the other end, after a moment of silence a small, female voice said. “Hello, I'm calling from Royalty Hospital…are you Miss Amanda Robinson?”
Amanda’s heart stopped. She froze.
“That's me.” she said quickly.
The hospital? Oh God! What had happened? Her hands were shaking as she steadied the phone to her ears properly and at the same time, praying that nothing bad had happened.
Another pause.
“You’ve got to get to the hospital, your mother was brought in by your brother a few minutes ago,” The voice said.
“Please, come has quickly as you can.”

“Where is my mother?” Amanda demanded as soon as she made her way into the hospital.
Just then the doctor came out from the theater.
"Doctor, where is my mum? What happened?"She pulled his hands.
“Calm down, you must be Miss Amanda Robinson?”He asked.
Amanda nodded quickly, impatiently
"That's me, I'm here to see my mom,Is she okay? "
"Calm down, miss"The doctor said,"Come with me to my office"
Marie quickly followed him down the hallway to his office, and she sank down nervously as if she was to sit on hot coals.
"Amanda, Your mother condition is very critical, she was brought down here after he had another seizure," the doctor informed her, his expression grave, "I'm afraid we have to operate on her, and now, Miss, or you may lose your mother."
Tears cascaded down Amanda’s face. She’d virtually gone through everything she’d made doing odd jobs, small work to buy her mother’s drugs.
Amanda felt like the ground was spinning its dark side towards her, why was everything happening to her? She sniffed and looked up at the doctor who was regretting himself.
"Okay,so how much are we looking at?"Amanda turned to him, fingers crossed.
The doctor said down heavily, "The whole expense of her operation comes up to a hundred thousand dollars, miss and remember it had to be performed at the earliest”.”
Even after she had excused herself from his office with a promise to raise the money in a three days time as he had advised, it was his words which continued to ring in her eyes.
But when the doctor permitted her to go into her mother’s room, the incessant peeping of the life machine was in her ears, her heart clenched in pain when she saw her on the bed asleep.
Tom, who was sitting next to her, rose at once, a troubled expression was on his countenance and like her, he looked as though he had been weeping.
“Amanda.” he whispered. “What do we do now?”
Amanda came into the room and
toom his hand in her own, "I'll get the money for Mom's surgery no matter what, Tom."
“But how? We can’t squeeze a single cent out of the restaurant, and they're about to take it away from us.” he said
Amanda was light-headed. Dizzy.
“Everything will be fine. I'm going to figure it out." she told him.
He sniffed and hugged himself tightly. Everything was happening all at once and it was suffocating. It seemed to be getting from bad to worse as the days advanced.
She came to rest beside her mother and bowed her head to her hand as she was weeping, her shoulder trembling so much that it seemed as if it would tuck in completely beneath her, "Hold on tight, mum. I’d have you out of this bed in no time .”

“I have a plan, I’m working towards one.” Samuel said into his phone
“Do you have any idea of the damage your fault will cause to this company? You know I always warned you to watch yourself‘’ said his deeply disturbed mother.
“ I have a plan, a way to clear this whole scandal up… but you’ll need to help me.” he said
“It had better be something good,” she said.
Samuel hesitated, not knowing what his whole plan might just sound like to his mother. He had no other choice but this.
“I’m thinking of getting married.”Samuel said, choosing his words carefully.
There was a pause from the other end and he knew exactly what was going on in his mother's mind. he waited.
“Are you serious or are you drunk again?” His mother seemed slightly entertained even in the tense situation.
She could tell it was her son, and that he was not thinking about marriage. He was aware that Samuel was a person who would never consider every thought about getting married, even if that made his life easier.
“That's the way it is, mum. Samuel said flatly, “If there will be any other option, I will take it”.”
“Wow. So you're being serious about this? Oh my God! Who is the lucky girl? Tell me everything. What’s her name? Where is she from? Do I know her?” She interrogated in one breath.
Then without a knock, the door was pushed open.
Amanda, just having arrived at the door a few moments earlier and overheard his conversation, pushed the door open and came in.
He turned to her and if she wasn't mistaken, she saw a smirk slid up Samuel's lips.
“Let me call you back.” he said quickly and hung up.
Her face was tear-streaked and her heart was heavy and sore. There was no time, she had to pick whichever option she took that brought her here fast, she was sick of fighting—sick of everything.
“Look who we have here.” Samuel said, leaning back in his chair.
He took up the crystal tumbler of whiskey from his desk and drank nonchalantly. He crossed his legs and tilted his head to a side, giving her a look one would give to a broken and pitiful looking doll by the road side.
"What do you want? I ain't got all day, Miss Robinson." he asked
Her heart was pounding and she was scared that he could hear it too.
"I accept to be your wife." Amanda declared at the door.
A smile crept up Samuel's face, did she have a choice?
