A few more days passed and there was still no news of Ash. I felt numb; the possibility of Ash being dead hovered over me like a dark cloud. I fought the emptiness growing inside my heart. If I admitted to that, I’d be admitting that Ash was really dead. I cringed, tightening the hold on my knees. Why did this always have to happen? Why couldn’t we just be happy? I wanted this to end!
