LUCA “What about me?” I repeated, my voice lower than I intended. “Do you think I am also a great guy?” The question seemed to catch her off guard in a way I had not anticipated. I saw that her shoulders had shifted slightly. She inhaled as if she wanted to say something but could not find the words. She opened her mouth, closed it again, then cleared her throat softly and turned her gaze forward, fixing it on the road ahead like the answer might be written there. The car slipped into an awkward silence that was thick and heavy, pressing down on my chest.
