Chapter 17

I stood up from my seat and said to Orion gently, "I'll try to come, but don't get your hopes up, I have a lot of work to do. If I can make it, I'll be here right away. You do your job properly." "I know, go now. You stand out so much that Mrs. Gloria wants you as her model too," Orion said, looking at me adorably. "Maybe next time I'll be her model and replace all the other models," I replied jokingly. "Hush, hurry up and go, you'll be late," Orion pushed me away. I smiled and said, "Okay, okay, you go back to work. I'll leave after you get back." Orion nodded and released his hand that had pushed me away. Whether intentionally or not, his hand gently touched my palm, as if giving me a farewell. I smiled as Orion turned and walked back into the crowd, but his head turned several times to look at me. "Felix, take good care of Orion," I said to Felix, who immediately nodded. I turned and walked away. Before leaving the room, I took a glance at Orion, and a smile appeared before I could completely lose sight of him. I arrived at my company. My company is a multinational corporation that specializes in security and property. However, its main focus is weapons and escort services. My secretary is a human named Veronica. She's only 27 years old, but she's already very skilled at her job. Veronica's mother was also originally my secretary, but was later replaced by Veronica. But before Veronica, I had another secretary, Xiaoping, who replaced Veronica's mother. Xiaoping is a person who has worked with me since before Veronica's mother passed away. Xiaoping later became the chief secretary after Veronica's mother resigned and not long died of old age. However, a year ago, Xiaoping died, and Veronica, who is still a subordinate of Xiaoping, was promoted to chief secretary. There were many oddities surrounding Xiaoping's death, as he had been in good health until suddenly passing away. I had several suspicions, but since the police had already declared Xiaoping's death a natural heart attack, I couldn't dismiss them. However, Xiaoping left behind a wife and two sons, aged 17 and 10, respectively. Given Xiaoping's dedication to the company, his family was guaranteed half of his salary as long as his wife lived and didn't remarry. The company also covered the education costs for both sons until they graduated from college. The majority of employees at the main company were vampires, with the remainder being humans who would be transferred within a few years. However, the company had protocols in place to ensure that only a few people knew that the company was led and run by vampires. Only a few trusted individuals were kept in the dark. "President, there will be a meeting today with the CEOs and directors. This is the meeting material that must be studied," said Veronica, placing the document on the table. I nodded and took the document. One of the items discussed was the sponsorships given to several individuals, including Orion. There were also brand ambassador issues and general market issues. I put the document down and asked, "What is the sponsorship issue that requires bringing it up in a board meeting?" "Mr. Albert and Mr. George are the ones who are taking issue with the sponsorship because they think it's useless and a waste of money. Furthermore, they feel it could compromise company secrets," Veronica replied calmly. "They are worrying too much, what about the others' opinions?" I asked, reading the document again. "No one is rejecting it, but they're not accepting it either. They're choosing to be neutral on this matter," Veronica replied quickly. "Do you know why they're choosing to be neutral?" I asked, as if testing a child. "According to the information I've received, this sponsorship is for talent from your brother's company, Mr. Julian, so they chose not to interfere," Veronica replied, remaining professional. I simply nodded, at least that's what they thought. Because if they knew Orion existed and that I sponsored talent at Creative for him, I'm sure some of them would take action to harass him. "Okay, you may leave," I said, dismissing Veronica. Veronica immediately nodded and politely walked out of my office. I shook my head slowly and muttered, "What is this little girl thinking?" The sun was setting, and I was walking down a small, dark alley. I closed my eyes for a moment, smelling the thick scent of blood. I sighed and opened them again. I stared straight ahead at the end of the alley and quickly ran in that direction, so fast it felt like I'd moved in a split second. "Ugh!!" The person I'd grabbed stared at me in shock. "Vampire!! You're a vampire too!! Take your hand away!" the person said with difficulty. I stared at him blankly and then glanced at the ground, where an unconscious person lay there. The mouth of the person in my hand showed traces of blood from a human he'd just drunk. I choked him hard and demanded, "Who was the vampire that bit you earlier?" "I don't know!!" he replied loudly, trying to pry my hand away from his neck. "Don't lie to me! Do you think you'll survive by lying like this?" I said, throwing him against the wall. "No, I don't know anything! I woke up, and I became like this!!" The man, who looked to be in his 20s or 30s, struggled to get up. "Boss," a black shadow quickly approached me, and Walter was already beside me. I glanced over and heard Walter whisper in my ear, "Boss, this man is no ordinary person. He's the second son of the President of Steel Corp., and the woman lying on the ground is the wife of his older brother and the executive of Steel Corp." "Oh, you became a vampire for your own benefit. For someone so stupid, you're pretty smart," I said sarcastically to the man before me, kneeling with blood visible on his head from a scratch on the wall. Unclear rules exist between vampires and humans, going back to the thousands of years of agreements between humans and vampires. One of them is that a human killed by a vampire is considered an accident, and no further action will be taken by the human. Vampires who commit the crime will be punished by vampire law. The Twilights themselves are a special team, similar to the police or law enforcement in the vampire world. However, it's not that easy to punish and find a vampire who has bitten a human. Even so, there are still ways, especially in this modern era. Not only do humans utilize technology, but vampires do too.
