Chapter Nineteen (Part 2) "I-I s-said... d-damn y-you!" I screamed before brutally biting his arms on my neck. "Damn it!" He yelped. I felt his hold loosened so I toom that as a chance to break free. I elbowed his face harshly which was effective to completely get off him. He slumped on the cold floor with his hands tightly clenching his nose that is probably bleeding right now. Damn, serves you right. I stood up and run towards the gun that I have been trying to reach earlier if not only for that lunatic old guy. I was about to reach it when somebody kicked it causing it to be tossed away. Before I could see who did it, I just felt the aching of my scalp when. Then I realized it was because someone grabbed me from my hair again. "I must admit that you have such a powerful kick, kid..." a familiar voice said. I then figured that it was the lunatic guy's accomplice. Damn it! "You've been so naughty kid, I must teach you some manners." He whispered before mercilessly punching me on the stomach. My lips parted as I felt the pressure of his punch quickly spread in my gut. Ripples of air-stopping pain almost knocked all my senses into oblivion. My body sagged as I felt on the floor like an immobile doll. His roared of laughter slid into my ears but I could not process it properly. The aftermath of his punch still lingers on my stomach. The next thing I know, he was already dragging me somewhere. "Arylle!" I heard a familiar voice. I think it was Guinevere's. I then realized that the goon was dragging me towards a group of people that I later figured as the remaining hostages. They are slumped in a corner. All the staffs and customers are all there like a sardine forcefully pushed together in a tight container. "Now stay there and don't dare any stupid stunts again," the guy whispered before throwing me to the group of hostages. "Arylle!" I heard Guinevere's voice again and some hands trying to tap my face. I slowly opened my eyes when I was able to endure the pain on my stomach and there I saw the rest of my group mates. "O-Oh my gosh! W-What h-happened to you, A-Arylle?" Sheena's stuttering voice seeped into my ears again. I tried to sit when the pain eventually subsided. "Nothing. I just randomly bumped into some hoodlums and almost got killed," I answered. I did not know that I can still use sarcasm in these kind of times. "Wait! You have a gush on your cheeks!" Guinevere pointed my face. I touched my cheeks and felt the sting of it. Indeed, I have some minor cut on my face. Damn, it must be from the lunatic's knife. "It's okay. It takes more than a knife to kill me," I tried to sound humorous but that was actually half-true. This wound will heal in no time, anyway. Damn. I'm more concerned of them seeing this wound suddenly closing. They might go hysterical like Vanessa did before. I slid my hand into my pocket, trying to find a band aid that I always bring with me in case of emergency like this and luckily I found one so immediately put it on my cut. While putting it, I decided to ask some questions. "Hey, how many are they here?" Guinevere look at me with fear in her eyes. "I think three? That guy..." he pointed at the guy who punch me earlier. He is now pointing his gun on the manager of the store, threatening him to give the money. "...that one too." Guinevere pointed another guy who's keenly guarding the door of the convenient store. "...at first I thought there are only two of them but then you said you bumped into the two hostage taker, right?" I nod at her. "Yeah, that guy who's holding the gun was one of them and the other one was anywhere in this store still holding his broken nose," "What?" Guinevere ask cluelessly but I did not have the chance to answer back when a familiar sound resonated in the whole place. It was a police siren. "Crap! The police are here! I'm outa here, man!" The hoodlum who was guarding the glass door yelled before sprinting away from the store. "What the crap?" The guy who punched me earlier shouted at him but the former still run off, leaving his comarades behind. "Damn it! Damn that piece of jerk!" "What's happening?" The guy who cut my cheeks suddenly appeared in the picture again. He is still holding his broken nose while walking near his accomplice. "The police are here! I told you to f*****g focused on the goal now look what's happening!" His accomplice spit the words angrily. "Shit..." "Yeah s**t! We are in a deep s**t now, dude!" "Where's Allan?" The guy with a broken nose asked. "He run off! That bastard..." The siren of the police car became more apparent, I figured they are really already here. "What are we going to do?" The knife guy ask his comrade. But before he can have his answer, a baritone voice echoed in the whole area. "Please surrender now, you are now being surrounded by us. There is no point to hold these hostages," the voice came from the police officers that are now outside the convenience store. Sighs of hopes silently emerged from the other hostages as they stares on the police car outside. The transparent glass wall of the store enables us to see them clearly. My eyes focused on the police officer who is holding a megaphone. He was the one who spoke earlier. "Again, we urged the hostage takers to surrender now. If you persist on doing this crime, your criminal cases will only pile up," his voice is marked in complete authority. But that was not the one that caught my attention. It was the fact that he looks familiar to me. It is like I saw him before... My eyes widen when I realized why he looks so familiar. He was the same police that I saw back in the campus. The same police officer to interrogate Tangent and his classmates that day... Officer Manalo. -C. N. Haven-
