Project LOTUS: Beautiful Monster

Preface   September 13 2010   "Department of Health reported that the number of Exitiale Septem cases in Manila as of today is 100. Prior to this, they already confirmed 20 deaths due to the epidemic. Because of the alarming rate of the said infectious disease, the local government unit of the whole Metropolitan Manila has declared a State of Calamity--"   "Ryz, that's enough watching T.V. for now. Come here so you can take your meds already."   I silently turned off the television as I sauntered towards my mother. She gave me a warm smile before guiding me inside the blue room.   I gently touched the doorknob to open the door but my fragile hands seemed to have no plans to do it. The coldness of the metal knob tickled my pale skin as I stand there languidly before I decided to meet my mom's eyes... full of mysteries. "Mom, is this the last time?" I asked in a tone of resigned strength.   I saw her expressions changed when I uttered my helpless question. Sadness was briefly visible on her face but it immediately disappeared as she tries to sport an encouraging smile.   She tapped my head calmly and twist the door knob herself, inviting me yet again inside the blue room. "Don't worry, Ryz. Everything will be fine from here..." and with those words filled with unsaid hope, she closes the door. -C. N.
