Chapter Ten (Part 2)
But I doubt it.
I was about to throw the basket away or something when my nose suddenly caught a familiar scent.
A scent of rose. Of course because this is a freaking rose but the scent is a bit stronger than a normal rose. A fresh rose cannot produce such a potent scent like what I am smelling right now.
It feels artificial... it has this strong and enticing smell of a rose like it was soaked in a drum of chemicals that is used to make a perfume the weird thing is that this scent is kinda familiar.
I think I smelled it somewhere before--
Wait...
My fingers tightly clenched the basket when I remember why this scent screams so much familiarity.
This is the exact scent that I smelled earlier in the greenhouse.
The hell is this...
"Arylle, hija. What if your suitor just left it for you on purpose? Oh! Such a sweet young boy!" I turned my attention Nanang who looks like she is in the middle of a daydream. She has that foolish smile plastered across her face like a giddy teenager. She appears to reminisce the golden days of her peak years as a young maiden.
I raised my eyebrow at her.
"No..."
I returned my gaze at the basket I am holding and decided to just keep a single stem of rose and just throw the remaining basket out of here.
Nanang was shocked when she witnessed me throwing the basket of roses in the garbage bags outside our gate. Later, the garbage truck will collect these junks.
"Oh, my! Why did you do that?" Nanang's voice was filled with disappointment while tailing me inside the house.
I ignored her and just stared at the single stem of rose that I kept.
Despite its solitude, I can still smell the potent fragrance lingering on its every petal.
"Damn..." I did not realize that I was gripping the stem too tight. I felt its thorns penetrated my skin which made it bleed.
Roses... dangerous things in a facade of a false beauty.
Whoever sent this to me, I am sure that it was not a mistake. It was really meant for me--to serve as purpose. Perhaps a warning, who knows? But one thing is sure... I can smell danger coming.
-
I WAS busy doing our research paper when a loud thunder roared. The rainfall is also heavy, it seems like there is a storm. It is already night but I cannot sleep because I need to finish this project of mine.
My chin boredly rests on my knuckles as I peruse every word in my laptop. I rested my other hand on the keyboard when I noticed the lotus scented candle beside my phone.
I gently caressed it. Its smooth surfaced reminds me my parents. From the tiny candle, my drifted to the rose stem that I kept earlier. It also neatly rest on top of my study table. I tried to preserve the flower by putting it in an enclosed glass container. I tried to tap the glass leisurely using a mechanical pencil.
Somehow, because of this s**t I cannot help but to feel a twinge of anxiety within me. I feel like something is about to happen...
"Shit." I was too preoccupied with thoughts that I was not able to control the force I used to tap the glass so it fell the cold floor, defenseless.
Another thunder roared in the window as the rose hit the floor. Shattered pieces of the glass are scattered in the floor.
I hastily went down to gather the tiny pieces of the broken glass with some petals that were also dislocated from the flower. When I was about to collect and clean it, my whole room suddenly darkened.
"The hell is wrong with lights?" I irritatingly whispered under my breath. Is there a power interrupting or what?
"Ronald! Get generator! Hurry!" I hearf Nanang' faint voice downstairs as she instructed our driver. So there is really a power interruption? But why did not received any notice prior to this
I stoop up to take a peek at outlr neighbours to see if we are the only one in this kind of situation but I stopped when I felt a sharp shard if glass pierced into the my foot.
"Ouch! Damn it!" I instinctively lift up my foot to examine it in the dark.
I tried to find my phone on the study table but as I was doing that... I realized one thing.
My laptop is off but I did not even shut it down earlier. I bit my lower lip as I tried to push the power button of my laptop but the thing is not even opening. I tried it several times but to no avail, it was still 80% earlier so why did it suddenly shut down?
My lips slightly parted when I felt a familiar surge of anxiety running through my veins. It is not because of the unsaved research paper in the laptop but because this situation is a bit familiar.
What the... it's happening again.
I frantically searched for my phone on the study table and when I found it, I immediately tried to open it. But just like my laptop, the thing did not budge at all! Again... I just recently charged it earlier so it should not be a drained-ass like this!
I hate to acknowledge this fact but this situation is obviously similar to what happened yesterday at school.
They are here again? And inside my house?
I instinctively looked at my back when I heard a thud sounded behind me.
Just when I did that, another sharp lightning followed by a loud roar if thunder lingered inside my room... The blinding flash of lightning illuminated the silhouette of a person standing beside my bed.
It was the same guy that we faught yesterday... the guy who can wield electricity.
